  1. Maybe. I'm only throwing crap against the wall when I talk about getting a pitcher like Scherzer, but Youk isn't chopped liver as a clever and versatile hitter who brings a gold glove to the table, which is something the Tiggers are DESPERATELY short on, so maybe I'm not being that ambitious after all.
  2. Of his potential? No chance. All you can talk about is what he looks like right now. And right now, personally, I'm encouraged by some things. Especially the fact that despite not starting in years he's only gone five-and-out twice. The value of an unfinished product like Bard can be measured in innings pitched as much as in anything else. The biggest thing a kid in Bard's situation can do is not tax the bullpen by having to be yanked, and Bard's done at least that. if he matures into an innings burner with a fluctuating ERA and winds up as a replacement for Wake-in-his-prime, I might be alone in taking that, but I'll take that.
  3. Oh and here's a dark horse idea -- trade Youk to the Tigers. Sure they have a 1B and a 3B but they're both worse than Youkilis defensively and I don't think they have a set DH right now with the injury to V-Mart. So Youkilis affords them a small but significant upgrade, and they have a glut of young starters so we might be able to snag one. With the emergence of Smyly you could get Scherzer, and he's talented though the numbers don't show it this year. Better than Buchholz anyway.
  4. Yeah, slight typo, I meant their phenom 1B. He's probably coming out of it, but if their rotation comes together, that team could be competitive in a weak division, so I could see them deciding to buy if Paulino and Duffy continue strong.
  5. The question is, would you be able to get any Ellsbury at all. There's a difference between being hurt and being injured. If he were bruised up he'd probably be out there, IIRC this is something a bit more structural.
  6. I'd rather have a healthy Nava out there than an injured Ellsbury. It's only the fact that we're into the 6th and 7th spots in our depth chart ( which no team should plan to see regularly) that makes this even an issue. If you had a healthy Sweeney and Ross, they and Nava should have been adequate to be going on with.
  7. Bruce Chen? He's pretty much revitalized his career down in KC, he looks like a decent (if fragile) #3-4 starter now. Their phenom #1 is struggling and Youks is versatile enough to make himself useful.
  8. I think of Crisp in more of the McDonald role. He had some righthanded power off the bench last I looked, and the switch hitting and speed are interesting. I don't think he's able to play fulltime anymore.
  9. Considering this cast of characters, I'd take a long look at Coco The power fiends on this forum will laugh you down though. No one who can't hit a homer is a baseball player after all.
  10. Aviles I'd have to think. He has some experience there and he's actually a credible threat offensively. Call up Iglesias to play short and move Aviles to right.
  11. Sweeney's out too with a concussion.
  12. Said career being over.
  13. At what point do we call up Iglesias and put Aviles back in the outfield until people get healthy?
  14. Nava, Byrd and Lin. Wow.
  15. In other words, we just won and the Yankees are in last place. Looking on the bright side!
  16. And you didn't stop and think for a moment about why Feliz is hurt and Bard is healthy?
  17. That wasn't as bad as it could have been. Good damage control there.
  18. I wonder if a run scored on a dropped third strike shouldn't be considered unearned.
