  1. Well that was one, as in uno, as in singlar, very bad outing for Bard.
  2. If Dot can return to his career averages he'll do as a fill-in. He really doesn't have that far to go.
  3. I'm still having a little trouble grasping the idea that Dot hit a key homer.
  4. They've got some buzz up in Toronto. THeir GM has made some savvy moves to build the roster and there's a sense that there may be some hope to break up the triumverate. And to be fair there is, but the Jays are still a couple bats and 1 premium arm away from being able to mix it up.
  5. I think this rebound from Nava is somewhat significant. It's not a free ticket to the 3-4 years of major league starting that IMHO he has the potential for, but it is a sign that the first time MLB pitchers start adjusting to him, he can adjust back. It doesn't mean everything, but it doesn't mean nothing either.
  6. Dot goes yard. I still can't believe it.
  7. It depends on whether or not you're deluded enough to think Abreu is a CF at this point in his career. Getting Abreu would have kept Gonzo at first and Middlebrooks on the bench more. It would have been small gain even it worked brilliantly.
  8. If this is what he looks like when he doesn't have his stuff, I'll take it.
  9. Also there's the fact that Evans was one of the better defensive RF of his era. Ordonez didn't suck as a defender, but he's not in that category.
  10. Dwight Evans is still not a Hall of Famer. maggs is not close.
  11. Nava replaced Pedroia tonight and gave a Pedroialike performance. His average is back up above .300 (.314) and 3 more doubles. But of course, he's just a singles hitter.
  12. There shouldn't be. I do not like Garza for some reason. He triggers all my warning sirens. My gut isn't infallible, but it beats a stopped clock.
  13. I don't think we're as desperate for a SP as we were a month ago. Our rotation looks pretty respectable if this rebound by Buchholz is legit. You can agree or disagree with the Bard experiment, but as 5th starters go he doesn't stand out one way or the other, and replacing a 5th starter with a mid 4's ERA isn't high on anyone's priority list -- or shouldn't be. And our bullpen is underrated at the moment. A lot of plug-in guys are playing up to their ability, and we have some untapped potential in that pen even before Bailey comes back. We're easily worse off in the middle of the infield right now than we are in frontline starting. Thus my suggestion of Ivan Dejesus.
  14. He got it.
  15. 1 strike away.
  16. No. No, and not close. Just doesn't have the lifetime #'s for a corner OF.
  17. I know, I just hate the way a player's permanent reputation here is based on his last year in the uniform.
  18. Mike Lowell was one of the best defenders at third base in Red Sox history until he got that hip injury that crippled his range. His reflexes were absolutely inhuman, and his ability to read the ball the moment a player hit it resulted in countless improbable outs. In 06 and 07 he was putting on a show on a nightly basis.
  19. If they're shopping Youk, then it's clear the FO thinks so.
