  1. I hope the fans here aren't dumb enough to think that Scutaro would be starting at shortstop by the way. He was done as an every day shortstop 2 years ago. The Rockies used him at second base almost exclusively and he struggled at THAT. Of all the people we lost last year, to be grieved over the loss of Scutaro is just bizarre. Jed Lowrie I could understand. We could really use his services right about now. Josh Reddick I could understand . He's been hitting like a middle of the order bat and it's blindingly clear that we gave up on him a year too soon -- and where the heck is Andrew Bailey? Scutaro? Really?
  2. Punto is irrelevant. If we keep Scutaro, the guy we miss out on is Ciriaco. Could just be me, but I'd take Ciriaco.
  3. So their analysis is based on more than just what they can read on other websites and see on TV. That puts them above our level, meaning it's kind of foolish to try and look down on them.
  4. Get in touch with the PR department. I imagine that it's something they'll look into because it's pretty inexpensive to get done, and would boost PR at a time when the team really needs it.
  5. I agree. They're not authoritative, but they're very, very informative. Most fanbases don't have guys who do what SP.com is doing.
  6. OK, I have no idea why Aceves is still out there. It wasn't a bad idea when he was trying to close the lead, but that failed once, and now he's been out there for 1 1/3 innings already. What.
  7. And this one Ellsbury.
  8. For the love of god, get one in the air.
  9. Then maybe the problem runs deeper than whose name shows up in the newspaper as leader of the team. Maybe the rot is deeper than that -- to the point that it doesn't make one freaking difference who the manager and GM are.
  10. And give your entire team roids? Not sure how that's relevant, but OK.
  11. You're asking them to give an intentional pass to a hitter below the Mendoza line. In a situation where a single is all it takes. In order to face Ichiro. I dunno dude, I'd have to say the chances that one burns you are just as high as the other way.
  12. The three outs in that inning were a popup, a lazy fly ball and a little squib that didn't get out of the infield. He steals, the only difference is he's stranded at second or third. For the love of fruit people, there's enough actual stuff to complain about you don't need to COMPETELY MAKE **** UP too.
  13. You almost never tag up and move to second on a catch in CF. No matter how deep it is, you're running towards the ball. Really chancy.
  14. Like it or not Aceves is your closer. Bringing in your closer in a 1 run game when your big lefty has already gone 1 1/3 and had just given up a big double is the right move.
  15. Sure, but after you've fired Lucchino, reorganizing the entire FO is going to be quite a chore. Not really sure this owner is up to stepping up his own role until a smart, aggressive executive can prove himself. Oh you're still dumb enough to think this is the manager's fault.
  16. Sure. He's walking into THIS toxic death trap.
  17. I wouldn't say "nothing." At the least they're a good source to track minor league player movement.
  18. The truth is usually in the middle. There's something to be said for already-developed skill. There's also something to be said for natural athletic talent. I just think that prospect watchers are so frantic to be the first guy to call someone a big leaguer they lose their heads a bit about some of these A ball players. Also I do happen to think that the barrier between Salem and Portland is significant enough that I'll take just about any talented AA player (say, Bradley) over an objectively more talented A+ guy. If we had to (we don't, but if we did) we could theoretically call Bradley up right now and hope to get SOMETHING out of him. Bogaerts would just wilt.
  19. Like Farrell would come here. He's serveral times better off staying in Toronto and we all know it.
  20. I don't value prospects the same way Baseball America does. You might have notices that a few times. Specifically I tend to believe that a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. I'll take a guy who can already compete at a given level over a guy who's projected to absolutely dominate it until they prove other wise. Of course, I also reserve my right to change my mind. People don't seem to get that last bit though.
