    AL West, currently serve as our biggest threat for a playoff spot. AL East. Only 5.5 out? If the Rangers (and Rays for that matter) lose and struggle toward the finish line, then we get the wild card. Which is a playoff spot. Much more feasible than hoping the Yankees implode down the stretch, and putting all your eggs in that basket. Once you're in the playoffs, you have as good a chance as any of the other seven teams to win it all. I agree. You should get right on that.

    Oh that's good. Let's apply this to other division races, just for the hell of it. The LA Angels always seem to have the division race locked up by mid-July. Does the second place team, who happens to be in the playoff hunt but double-digit games out of first, need to be more concerned about the Angels every night, or their wild card competition?

    I guess a prerequisite for being a tr00 Sox fan is to hate the Yankees, unconditionally, and view them as something more than a division opponent. I should be thinking of them as inhuman scumbags who helped orchestrate the anthrax attacks. I remember being 10 years old and having that attitude. Then I grew pubic hair and realized that all my aimless Yankee hating was a waste of energy. This thread is why I f***ing HATE fanboys.
