I questioned Tito changing the matchups so that Dice-K was pitching against Lerew the rookie, and Hansack went up against Smoltz. Smoltz has always dominated the Red Sox, while Lerew looked very hittable (before the games). I don't like when you switch the matchups to try to garantee a win, and give yourself a very tough game, rather than take a shot at giving yourself a chance to win both. When your hot, you go for 2 wins, not 1. Tito didn't take that route and I think it was a mistake. As I had thought, Lerew sucked, the Sox destroyed their pen, while Dice-K pitched well. And as I also thought, we had a lot of trouble against Smoltz and Hansack wasn't effective. Had we made the right matchups (Hansack-Lerew, Matsuzaka-Smoltz) we could have very well battled out 2 wins, or at least had 2 close games. Instead, we blowout the first and make Matsuzaka's start meaningless, just getting outs, while we then get blown out by their Ace. Its simple logic, when you throw up a rookie against an Ace, generally, the Ace will win. With a team this hot, we should have gone with the ideal pitching matchups in the LONG run. I hate seeing the Sox get destroyed like that when they didn't need to be. I hope Tito doesn't make similar mistakes in the future. When your hot, you go for 2 wins, not an automatic one.
And ya, Hansack looked horrible again. We have Gabbard, Pauly, and Bucholz has looked great. Lets see how they can do when we have a spot to fill.
