  1. Soxtalent; Farrell may work with Doubront in Spring training, but not more than that. More than likely Doubront will start the season in Greenville and he needs to maintain the ERA that he has put in the VSL and the GCL the last two years while increasing his strikeout numbers to make the next jump. I haven't heard that Doubront will pitch Winter ball, in the 05 Winter he pitched less than 15 innings in Winter ball, so if he will pitch this Winter it won't be much more than that.
  2. Example; That is the point his versatility should send him to the bench to be an utility player. Youkilis is strong enough, he doesn't have the bat speed that is needed to be a power hitter.
  3. Riverside; I understand that, Lowell its a better third baseman and hitter, but Youkilis doesn't porvide enough punch from a corner position, that is a production position. Like i said beforen the Sox can't compete offensively with the rest of the AL teams with Youkilis at a corner position.
  4. Bosoxwest, its OK, BRJ3 doesn't have a clue of what he is talking about, he its just looking for argument. You're right pages like this main purpose its to pass information and I enjoy to pass that info to my fellow scouting or minor league followers. Going back to topic and to answer your Question, Cabreja is a small kid, but with strong wrist and a quick bat, he had a hard time adjusting to the GCL in 06 in a limeted playing time and should return to the GCL in 07. Cabreja is more quick than fast and his future its on the OF, but because he has a very strong arm the Sox brass has had ideas of making him a catcher which i believe its a mistake.
  5. BRJ3; I don't have to prove to you if I am a scout or not, but if you can read I have said in different occasions that i don't work for the Red Sox, and the 2007 GCL roster its simply a projections of players that I have seen play in Spring training, in the GCL or as amateur. have you seen any of this players play baseball or is this like your reading skills?
  6. You call good enogh bat for a first baseman who hit 13 HR's and 70 RBI's, I don't, and not only that but they Sox's can't challange the rest of AL with results like that out of a production position like first base.
  7. AZBlue; I can see your point of wanted a more talented second baseman, however I believe that the Sox can carry Pedroia and Gonzalez as their middle infielders in 2007 if they can find a productive bat to play first base. I believe that in time Pedroia will be an above average ML productive secondbaseman, very similar to Mark Loretta. Riverside; Abe Alvarez was theo's first mistake as a GM, there isn't a way that they should have drafted Alvarez high in the second round, the scouting community knew very well about him and his lack of stuff. A very overrated pitcher in college. I don't expect that Alvarez will be released, but i will be very dissapointed if they elect to proctect him in the 40 man roster, like you said there is a good chance that he will be a throw in this Winter in a trade. Red Sox Rooter; I have talk about Josh Papelbon in other Web pages, Papelbon isn't a prospect, his fastball doesn't even reach mid 80's. In a league so much pitching hungry like MLB is when a pitcher who doesn't have a signing issue or isn't a draft and follow and doesn't get drafted until late in the 48th round there is a problem that draws a red flag. Papelbon is a border line minor leaguer, a pitcher that will have a very hard time as he goes up the minor league ladder.
  8. AzBlue, Nice to hear from you and like you can tell i am not longer posting at Soxprospects. Its well known that Pedroia is short on tools, but he is a baseball rat and a winner, there are some questions if Pedroia will be the Sox starting second baseman when the 2007 season opens, but i believe that he is a ML player, not a STAR, but a ML player, I am not sure that i could said that of all of the rest of the Sox players ranked up to #23.
  9. A baseball prospect is a player who has the tools or baseball skills to one day be able to play at the ML level and stays in it, it doesn't means a player who may had a cup of coffey in the majors, but back for good to the minors or a player that every Spring training its looking for a ML position for a different organization. A prospect is a player that his last minor league level isn't as important as its his journey to the ML. My top 50 Red Sox prospect going into the 2006 fall; 1 - Jacoby Ellsbury CF 2 - Clay Buckholz RHP 3 - Mike Bowden RHP 4 - Jason Place OF 5 - Dustin Pedroia 2B 6 - Edgar Martinez RHP 7 - Daniel Bard RHP 8 - Felix doubront LHP 9 - Bryson Cox RHP 10- George Kattaras C 11- Kyle Jackson RHP 12- Justin Masterson RHP 13- Luis Soto RF 14- David Murphy OF 15- Devern Hansack RHP* 16- Brandon Moss RF 17- Ryan Phillips LHP 18- Chad Spann 3B 19- Kris Johnson LHP 20- Caleb Clay RHP 21- Carlos Fernandez OF 22- Lars Anderson 1B 23- Mark Wagner C 24- Jed Lowrie 2B 25- Christian Lara SS 26- Jose Capellan LHP 27- MIchael Rozier LHP 28- Jon Eagan C 29- Chris Jones RHP 30- Yahmed Yema OF 31- Aaron Bate 1B 32- Manuel Arrambaris 3B 33- Chris Turner LF 34- Luis Esposito C 35- Miguel Socolovitch RHP 36- Mike Jones 1B 37- Chih-Hsien Chiang 2B 38- Dustin Richardson LHP 39- Jeff Corsaletti LF 40- Angel Beltre CF 41- Tom Hottovy LHP 42- Tyler Weedem C 43- Matt Goodson RHP 44- Ryan Kalish OF 45- Moises Tejada SS 46- Reid Engel CF 47- Jeff Natale 2B 48- Luis Sumoza RF 49- Claudio Arias LF 50- Kristopher Negron SS The next 15; 51- Yulkin German LHP 52- Tony Granadillo 3B 53- Arbert Jimenez LHP 54- Richard Lentz RHP 55- Tim Cox LHP 56- David Pauley RHP 57- Jose Alvarez LHP 58- Jotdan Craft RHP 59- Argenis Diaz SS 60- Zachary Daeges 3B/LF 61- Jorge Rodriguez RHP 62- Mario Pena LHP 63- Felix Ventura RHP 64- Jeremy West 1B 65- Kyle Fernandes LHP * Would have been ranked higher if his age would had been 24 instead of 26-28.
  10. Guapo, At this point I like Phillips better than Johnson mainly because he has better command of his pitches and see more how Johnson handles coming back from TJ, his 2006 season in college he was very much inconsistent and his pro start was a very small sample size. Stuff, size and age there isn't much difference between Phillips and Johnson and we should get a better idea after the 07 season, but for now Phillips its a head.
  11. Thank you for your words, Doubront is the Sox top LHP prospect, Jose Capellan isn't too far off, while both Jose Alvarez and Arbert Jimenez are very good prospect, I like Jimenez better than Alvarez. The top starting LHP prospects in the system are; 1- Doubront 2- Ryan Phillips 3- Kris Johnson 4- Jose Capellan 5- Michael Rozier 6- Arbert Jimenez 7- Jose Alvarez Crespo; At this time Moises Tejada is mainly a fastball pitcher, but his fastball sits at 92 not too bad for a 16yrs.
  12. Yes the organization is going to look Tejeda first as a position player and if it doesn't work then as a pitcher.
  13. They are both very good prospects, Beltre is the better hitter with top left handed power POTENTIAL, the key is thatTejeda not only is a top short stop prospect but is also a top pitching prospect.
  14. Projecting the Lowell and GCL rosters aren't easy to do because of the players that gets signed from the draft each year and goes to those rosters, but before the opening of Spring training the GCL roster should look like this. Catchers; 1- Tylen Weeden 2- Levy Tapia 3- Rafael Gil (Venezuela) Infielders; 1B- Lars Anderson 2B- Yamaico Navarro (Dominican) SS- Moises Tejada (Dominincan) 3B- Chih-Hsiang Huang (Taiwan) IF- Ricardo Burgos (Venezuelan) IF- Victor Zerrano (Venezuela) LF- Willian Reddick CF- Angel Beltre (Dominican) RF- Luis Sumoza (Venezuelan) OF- Mitch Dening (Australian) OF- Matt Sheely OF- Rafael Cabreja ( also a catcher) Pitchers; SP- Brandon Belt LHP (if signed as a draft and follow) SP- Ryan Colvin RHP SP- Arbert Jimenez LHP (Dominican) SP- Wang-Yi Lin RHP (Taiwan) SP- Jose Alvarez LHP (Venezuela) RP- Pedro Perez RHP (Dominican) RP- Jose Marte LHP (Dominican) RP- Pedro Rodriguez RHP (Venezuelan) RP- Victor Galde RHP (Venezuelan) RP- Armando Zerpa LHP (Venezuelan) RP- William Blue RHP THe Sox's GCL entry has made the playoff the last four years, winning the championship in 2006.
  15. If Magadan is the new Sox's hitting coach, the Sox will take two steps backward in hitting and hitting philosophy.
  16. Farrell hasn't been a pitching coach in the ML, but he has been a pitching coaching or instructor before.
  17. Farrell is a very good choice as a pitching coach, Wallace is a good baseball man, his health didn't help him, I am not a fan of Nipper. and perhaps even less of a fan of Dave Magadan or his coaching style.
  18. That is what happens when someone try to type to fast. I am a scout and I don't work for the Sox. Are you happy now?
  19. To be a baseball scout isn't easy to get into, but there are different ways to get in, one of them of course is being an ex player, but being an explayer alone won't do it, you have the right connection, another one is to go as many amateur games as possible and meet and talk to as many scouts as possible and another way is to send letters, resumes, emails to all of the organizations to try to get your feets inside, in whatever capacity and make connections. The baseball scouting bureau just concluded their training, there was over 600 hundred students.
  20. Beltre and Tejada are the top signings, but Pimental, Rivera, Pichardo, Alvarado and Chourio have talent, but as a 16 yrs they have long journey.
  21. Like i have mentioned before i don't work for the Sox, but i am scout.
  22. I haven't found to much talk about this topic, the international signing is divided into two signing periods the early phase which runs from July second to the end of August which is normally but not exclusive to players who will turn 16 yrs by the end of August and the regular phase which runs from September to May, where players 16 yrs and older can sign. In the 2006 early phase the Red Sox signed 10 players, seven Dominicans, two Venezuelans and one Australian. They where; Angel Beltre CF Moises Tejada SS Stormy Pimental RHP Manuel Rivera LHP Wilfredo Pichardo 2B Juan Bonafacio OF Emilio Valera RHP Anthony Alvarado RHP Pedro Chourio 3B Michael Lennox 3B Lennox is Auastralian, Chourio and Alvarado are Venezuelans, the rest are Dominicans. Lennox won't play profesionally until 2008 and should start his carreer in the 2008 GCL, Beltre and Tejeda will start their carreers in the 2007 GCL, Valera who is 20 yrs started playing professionally in the 2006 DSL and should return to it in 2007. The rest of the signees will be in the 2007 DSL.
  23. Yes, I am a scout and a former minor league player.
  24. I have been a redsox fan for years and while don't work for the Sox i am in the baseball industry.
