  1. Carlos Delgado has another tear in his hip. His career is likely over
  2. Why? Every time he throws his shoulder rips
  3. MVP AL- Hamilton- his team is in the playoffs, he has a comparable OPS and similar power numbers, but has a higher BA and plays much better D in CF and RF NL- Joey Votto- He and Pujols will be 1-2, and while Pujols still might end up with mildly better numbers, Votto's team will be in the playoffs, and he has been ridiculously clutch down the stretch, which voters love Cy Young AL- CC Sabathia- King Felix has the ERA, WHIP and K's on CC, but what he doesnt have is the W/L record and the fact that CC has been the biggest reason for his team's best MLB record. 23 quality starts in the AL East is a feat, although Felix has him beat there as well at 26. Felix deserves it, but I think CC wins it NL- Roy Halladay- Halladay has similar numbers to Wainwright, better numbers than Ubaldo and is playing on a playoff team that really had no other pitchers anchoring the rotation until Oswalt came on board. ROY- AL- Austin Jackson- leadoff man, .300 hitter, plays GG caliber CF, he should win. I dont think Bard is eligible due to his IP last season out of the pen. Other than that, AJax deserves it in a pretty weak AL Rookie class NL- Buster Posey- I think this is gonna be closer than most think. Heyward has had a hell of a yr, but Posey has put up almost the exact same numbers at a more demanding position. I think Posey might take it in a photo finish
  4. Pedroia is having surgery to implant a screw in his foot. He should be back in time for spring training. These fractures can cause avascular necrosis of the foot, which means bone death. If that happens, then he's going to have some serious arthritis. Typically, surgery is meant for a mal-alignment, meaning that he is going to be at more risk for the avascular necrosis. Hopefully he doesnt have it, but by not fixing it and it now needing significantly delayed surgery, he might run into that issue
  5. I think it has more to do with the core training and strengthening than actual ligamentous strength. As an example, Dellin Betances had a partial TJS and followed the workout regimen. He put on 20 pounds of muscle and looks like a horse out there. There is no doubt that he is much stronger in his core
  6. Reliever vs starter, though. And I still dont believe in the inverted W. Tons of pitchers need TJS.
  7. And paying a guy for postseason performance is a good way to get burned
  8. As we have learned from Arod's postseason last yr, postseason play is a crapshoot individually and over a career typically mirrors career #s
  9. Montero went bananas in a double header last night. 4-8 with a double, his 19th homer and 3RBI. He's up to .288/.355/.505. His post ASB line is crazy good- .355/.405/.671. He is truly one of the best offensive prospects in baseball Also, Brandon Laird will be joining Romine and a few others in the AFL this fall, BUT, Laird will be doing it as an OFer. Sounds like he is being groomed out there as an eventual replacement for Swisher or Granderson. He's got the power to do it, but his plate approach and patience needs work
  10. He's been very durable in 3 of his 4 seasons as a red sock. In 2 of his durable seasons, he has been below average for a corner OFer and worth significantly less than his contract would entail. His injured season, he was ridiculous in terms of production, but when you need a replacement for 1/3 of the season, your worth declines. He's truly only earned his paycheck in 1 of his 4 seasons
  11. VA quoted for truth. Then again, JimEd is kinda like this forums little "special" brother who occasionally forgets to take his meds. He must have forgotten his valium for this past week. The good thing is, when he takes his meds, he doesnt post here for months at a time. Hopefully he started taking his meds again
  12. Well, he wasnt, and another day gets ticked off the calendar. Yankee magic number for clinching a playoff spot down to 22
  13. Ramon Ramirez was improving when the sox shipped him out. Thats the difference. Delcarmen should struggle IMO, both because he'll be in Colorado and because he just wasnt that good
  14. Depends on what they are doing to the disk. Could be anything from some cleanup/scar tissue removal to a fusion. A fusion ends his career. The other stuff is recoverable. That being said, neck and back surgeries and injuries arent as straightforward as knees, ankles, elbows, etc. A good amount of the time you fix the problem, but the pain persists.
  15. Jed Lowrie has a few holes in his game. Namely, he doesnt project for power, he cannot play multiple games in a row, and he is truly a 2b playing out of position. I am sorry Dojji, but I dont see Lowrie as a 140 games a yr kind of player with an .800+OPS. Right now, with tons of rest, he is a .800+OPS player. Dont see that over a full, arduous season
  16. Dojji, you need to remember the market you are in. "Reasonable money" isnt really that feasible when you are talking about the second biggest spending team in baseball. And "limping" along at a position that you have gotten elite production out of for the last yr and a half without significantly upgrading elsewhere makes you worse in a division that has the Yankees and the Rays and now the Jays. I expect the sox to lose Beltre. Teams like Anaheim, Detroit, LAD, White Sox, and a few other large market clubs need offense more than the sox and have openings at 3b. Boras is his agent, so you know emotion has nothing to do with it. And there is no other 3b on the market even close. And he would have an easier time getting to the postseason in a divison that didnt have buzzsaws like the Yanks and Rays in it. The sox do have a viable alternative to him in moving Youkilis to 3b and signing a 1b like Pena. That would still be a downgrade, but not a huge one. Their DH spot could be easily filled by one of the other FAs out there. Konerko, maybe? But it is pretty easy to just take on that option and keep Papi here one more yr. It is much better than offering him a multiyr deal and probably easier to save face with him than to deny the option and sign him for something lower. He's pretty emotional and he does seem to have that "respect/diva" presence to him, so he might leave out of spite if the sox do that. Granted, his market is severely limited since he cannot play in the NL and the biggest spender has no need for him (NYY). But I am sure Anaheim or Texas would shell out some cash for him as their DH since Vlad will get paid and Matsui is gonna be out of Anaheim. In terms of catcher, there are other options. You could fill it internally, but Salty has never proven that he can hit consistently at the big league level. Starting him without a solid backup would be a potential disaster. If he comes out with a .200/.250/.350 line for the first 2 months, the fans will be in despair. You could go out and sign Olivo, although he and VMart are really the only 2 starting caliber catchers who will be on the market, and he isnt going to come cheap. You could resign VMart and consider him a C/1b hybrid and not sign Pena for 1b. Regardless, it will be interesting. But not resigning your own guys is a downgrade most anyway you look at it. And a downgrade from a non-playoff (granted absolutely snakebit) team is not a good PR move and probably not a good baseball move
  17. Well, the callups need to be on the 40 man, and you need to use caution before you add someone to the 40 man. Remember, the Rule V is in December and every yr, there are guys who need to be protected. Just 2 yrs ago, the Yankees didnt protect Nova and lost him for spring training to the Padres. Glad they didnt make the same mistake this yr. And, this yr, the Yankees lost a good looking reliever in Kanekoa Texeira to the M's who subsequently moved him to the Royals. He looks like he could be a good piece too. Every decision has a reaction, so one needs to be cautious when calling kids up. Right now, the sox have plenty of guys on their 40 man. I would expect Bowden, Richardson, Wagner, Iglesias, and Reddick to be called up. Then you have to look at guys who will need to be protected for 2011. Lars Anderson, Luis Exposito, Jason Rice, and a few lesser guys. So, it might be beneficial to add Lars now and bring him up. But for Rizzo, you'd be adding a player before they need to be protected
  18. SLOWWWWWW tonight. And a few times I couldnt connect to anything
  19. And today was a good day. Yankees win, Sox lose, and Rays are about to lose. Yankees reclaim sole possession of 1st, the Rays slip to second and the sox are now out of it. Never doubted the Yankees lead over them, but I thought the Rays has a small chance to fall apart. But the sox have done so as well. Regardless, as a fan of the enemy, the sox season is far from a bust. They lose their 1, 2, 3, and 8 hitter for the yr. They lose their #5 hitter for 3 weeks, spent almost a month without their second best pitcher and have seen almost nothing from Beckett and mediocrity from Lackey. The fact that the sox were relevant coming into the last series of August was a feat in and of itself. But now, the sox should bring up a ton of prospects and play them almost exclusively. Get their feet wet or showcase them for the offseason and make another run at it next yr. I do agree with a700 that this team was flawed from the getgo, and even with good health, I dont think they outplay the Yankees or the Rays. But they are still going to get close to 90 wins in a yr when their team was decimated. Tito and the scrubs really deserve a standing O. On paper, without Ells, Pedey, Youk, and Cameron, this team sucks. It is amazing they have been this close
  20. No way on what? I am not entirely sure Tito has given up, although his managerial decision tonight seems to point in that direction
  21. All I did was go to team stats then pare it down to SS's. So they arent player specific, just team averages
  22. 2 lefties go deep off Doubront. If today was the last stand for the sox, then Tito letting the lefty rookie pitch in this spot makes no sense. Just based on the way he's managed this game, I think Tito has given up.
  23. I think his history of being a contract yr guy scares me a bit, and ARod will be our starting 3b for at least another 3 seasons. Before his calf injury hit, he was moving around at 3b better than I had seen for 2 seasons. I think he might finally be healthy from that hip issue then the calf acts up
  24. The average MLB SS has a .694OPS and has made 16 errors. Well, Scutaro has a .706OPS and has made 16 errors. He's pretty much been MLB average
