There is an end in sight for Posada, no doubt, and it could be as soon as next yr. Montero is ready. He is better than Posada now defensively (in terms of arm) and has the upside of a Miguel Cabrera offensively. And behind him, we have Romine, who has the glove, but hasnt shown the durability to continue his offensive production as the season wore on (ie he got tired). Posada will not be a full time catcher in 2011. He'll be a part timer with Montero there and by 2012, there wont be a place for him. Montero will be DHing half the time and splitting time behind the dish with Romine. So yes, the end is definitely in the crosshairs for the old veteran
Jeter, IMO, will put up a better offensive yr next yr, but I highly doubt his range improves at all. It most likely will slow to a point where he isnt useful to us as a SS anymore. I think the playoff run showed he still has the bat. For some reason, it disappeared for 3 months, but he still has power the other way and can still hit the ball square. But he is the oldest starting SS in the majors and his range coupled with ARod slowing down a bit has made the left side hole a magnet for base hits.
Pettitte showed he can still do it, his durability is my main concern. But if we get Lee, he will be extraneous. Hell, it would be nice to see him in the #4 slot with Burnett as the #5, but it wouldnt be necessary and might hurt the development of the club's young pitchers, who are hard charging
And Mariano continues to defy logic. His new nickname should be Benjamin Button. The older he gets, the younger his stuff looks. I think he gets back on the horse for another 2 seasons. And every time I think he is going to slow down, he just gets better.
