  1. Both of them suck and I am so glad they are gone
  2. I think Kalish showed flashes of being a good player. He just isnt ready and should spend the majority of 2011 in the minors, IMO. I think a lot of the sox big time talent is going to start showing in the lower long season levels this season. Their last 2 drafts brought in a massive amount of talent. But the poaching of their prospects by trade and by callup has left the upper levels a little dry. Aside from Kalish, all of the sox prospects AA and up have their warts and aside from Rizzo (who I think has potential to be a starter, but some flaws that could stall his game), I am unsure if any of them will be solid contributors on as a starter for the sox. Some of their guys could be starters on other clubs, but in the AL East, they would not cut it.
  3. I'd be cool with a 3 yr deal. I personally think he is worth no more than $10 mil a yr, but so be it. We know he will be back. We know it will be at a massive overinflation of present worth
  4. I think what a700 means is that right now, none of the sox prospects look like they could contribute on a regular basis in 2011. I agree with that. I think Kalish could be a very good player, but I am pessimistic that he can do it in 2011.
  5. If he declines arbitration, he's looking at a MiLB deal. By accepting arb, he guarantees himself a 7 figure salary and probably a spot on the opening day roster
  6. I doubt they offer Lopez arbitration, IMO.
  7. Seen a few predictions with Werth ending up in Boston and the sox not retaining Beltre or VMart. Losing those two and bringing in Werth would give the sox 5 picks in the first 2 rounds
  8. Lester was a blue chipper, then got written off a bit after his battle with lymphoma
  9. The kid had never caught more than 100 games in a season, this yr he did. Catching takes its toll and most of the SRs I saw after the ASB were that he looked tired. Remember, he was a platoon man with Montero until mid yr last yr. This was his first season playing catcher full time
  10. I'd hold off on calling him that. He was dominant through 2 months, but wore down as the season wore on. He caught the most games in his MiLB career this yr and will slowly ramp up his workload. I think he has shown the ability to be a solid backstop, but this yr proved that he can get worn down with the workload and may not be ready for the big time for another couple of seasons.
  11. He exceeded 130ABs, so he is no longer a rookie
  12. That's awfully strange. Maybe they just wanted a pick?
  13. Well, Ortiz also hasnt been able to put a full season together since 2006. He's either been hurt, slumping or inconsistent. Ortiz was incredible the last 4 months of the yr, but aging players who start to have increased droughts might have some trouble repeating their mechanics in the box and maintaining bat speed. I worry about Jeter in the same breath, except his slump was the last few months. Would anyone be surprised if Ortiz hits to anywhere from a .750OPS to a .900OPS next yr? I wouldnt be surprised anywhere throughout that range
  14. They could probably sign vlad for less than 9 mil, or they saw how he finished and think he could be done
  15. My top 50 as it stands right now. More SRs will be coming out in the next couple weeks which could change my mind, but for right now, here is my top 50 1. Jesus Montero-C 2. 16. This series tied for the lowest ratings in a WS since the 2008 WS.
  17. And DePaula still hasnt signed, but the Yankees are right on his heels
  18. Have been reading a lot about this kid. Doesnt sound like a CFer. He apparently has a cannon for an arm but has shown a lot of struggles with his routes to the ball in the OF. But his hit ability is unquestionable. Frankie Piliere had him #10 out of the DR in May, but said he was a late bloomer. All reports on his bat are plus in both directions. The Yankees obviously were high on him and from the sounds of it, will probably have him skip over the Dominican leagues altogether
  19. Vesting options are almost always for more money than the AAV
  20. The Yankees outrighted Chad Gaudin and Royce Ring, making them Free Agents. The Yankees also added FSL POY Melky Mesa to the 40 man roster.
  21. Many teams need catching and every team needs offense. Even though some on here thought his market will be limited, VMart is going to have a ton of suitors. And invariably, one GM will consider him the one that puts them over the top and will overbid, be it yrs or cash. Theo has shown he does not like being the guy to overbid. I expect him to put a 3 yr offer on the table with a club option for a 4th at $13 mil per and see if he takes it. My guess is that he gets a guaranteed 4 yrs from multiple teams and someone will even go to a 5th.
  22. The Yankees have been granted permission to interview Gil Patterson for the pitching coach job. Gil was in the Yankee system in 2006 and knows some of the guys on the big league roster, although he is definitely not up to speed with the new guys. All I hope for is a guy who can figure out Burnett and can steer the kids to their potential.
  23. The sox formally declined Bill Hall's option today.
  24. He's a good pitching coach. Its a good move for the sox.
