  1. You gotta bring Reyes back. If healthy, he's an elite SS. If he isnt, then he's useless. Lately, he has been injured, but should be totally healthy this yr. My guess is the Mets accepted the option so they can get a solid half yr out of him and sell high rather than letting him walk for nothing. It's an $11 mil risk, that has the potential to only be a $6 mil risk to get elite talent back
  2. The Yankees are apparently interested in Jorge de la Rosa. Throws hard, has great stuff and pitched rather well in Colorado. But in NY, he'd be a #3 or lower and not the #2 we absolutely need. He might be our contingency plan, but I wouldnt even think he'd be worth losing the first rounder, as he is a Type A.
  3. Exactly. She was upset. She'll be fine once he signs a 9 figure contract.
  4. Seems legit. Maybe the Rangers arent going to cross the $20 mil per season threshold?
  5. a700, normally, I would agree with you. But Manny looked really slow in the box with Chicago and I think you can finally get a fastball past him.
  6. The sox do, especially if it is only for one season. That might be the yearly AAV they offer Jayson Werth
  7. But as the premier pitcher on the market, his marketting opportunities will be much bigger. CC has definitely taken advantage of that
  8. This is going to be a big offseason in terms of Cliff Lee news. And since he isnt a Yankee or a Red Sox yet, he doesnt belong in either forum. And since both sides will be deeply interested in his rumors, he doesnt really belong in the MLB hot stove thread. So, here is the latest on him This could be really, really good news for us
  9. Mazzaro has big league stuff and put up passable numbers as a 24 yr old. He is gonna be a back end starter for the Royals and has a lot of upside, so I like the deal from their end if it was only Mazzarro. The other prospect has high K numbers but has had some tough luck thus far in the minors. 1 yr of DeJesus for these 2 is not a bad deal for a team that could use some depth past Greinke in their rotation
  10. Reynolds is coming off a very bad yr, but still smacked 30 homers. The guy is what he is. A K machine who should hit in the .240-.260 range and club 30+ homers. He can also steal a few bases too. He would be an ideal fit in Fenway especially surrounded by better hitters in a park that will allow a bit more carry
  11. Toronto is not that far from being a contender, and after the Rays fall off, I think they are the sleepers in the AL East.
  12. Age and injury are the reasons Posada couldnt hang. He was never a good catcher, but this yr he was absolutely abysmal. It is time to bring up Montero and one year of Posada catching 60-70 games with the young buck coming up cannot be a bad thing
  13. If the sox insist on going 3 yrs with Beltre and Vmart and 4 yrs on Werth, then they might not end up with anyone.
  14. Werth would be a good signing. I hope he goes elsewhere, but it makes too much sense
  15. fixing the pen isnt that easy. High priced pen FAs rarely are worth it. Just look down the way in NY. Here are a list of FA signings that didnt work out Paul Quantrill Steve Karsay Damaso Marte (extension) etc etc Fixing your pen is more of a ground up approach.
  16. Jermaine Dye got heavy as he got deep into his 20s, which made his defense tail off. Werth looks like he's kept in very good shape and has the bloodlines to stay in good physical shape. Also, offensively, Dye was solid to strong into his mid 30s.
  17. That's quite a gamble, IMO. Put a guy out there who has shown fragility and nothing offensively or defensively in the bigs to warrant a starting job. Then back him up with a guy who has proven he can no longer handle a full time catching load if Salty flops. That would be the mother of all good scenarios for the AL East and a big risk for the sox. If Salty somehow finally lives up to his billing, it could be a good move, but I think this is not the high probability move
  18. Werth is probably looking at Holliday and hoping for a sweet deal like that. I doubt that happens. My guess on Werth is that someone goes to the 5th yr and someone goes to about 18 mil per season. 5yrs $90 mil is about right for an elite OBP machine who plays good corner OF defense and has some good speed.
  19. He's okay depth, but his injury history and a hip injury at that is very concerning.
  20. Agree on Cano. Agree on Teixeira. Jeter is not a gold glove caliber SS. He's barely an adequate SS, and that is debatable
  21. I think Kalish might have the biggest impact offensively anyway. I think a700 is looking for a "can't miss" offensive talent and as someone on this site pointed out, there are a handful of those a yr, and it just so happens that the Yankees have one. The guys the sox brought up and turned into all stars were certainly underwhelming when they were brought up but showed they should stick. Might be the case with some of these guys.
  22. Russell Martin is coming off hip surgery and has shown a massive offensive regression. He is not a guy I would rely on behind the dish until he can prove he can move around. We saw what hip surgery did to Lowell and we saw how long it took ARod to finally move again at 3b after his surgery. Imagine what that would be like for a catcher.
