  1. I see your point. Then again, what reasonable human being is going to look at Jeter's last season, his age, and his position and justify how the guy could ask for more than what is being brought to the table? I thought 3yrs $45 mil was an outrageous offer
  2. If the years were the problem, then why did the sox offer 4yrs $42 million?
  3. Yankees signed Neal Cotts the other day. Was a good reliever between the Chicago clubs then fell off the map. He's a lefty which is a bonus, but I consider him a la Royce Ring last yr. Lefty insurance should Logan suck, Marte not come back at the ASB and whichever lefty we sign via FA doesnt pan out
  4. That has not been corroborated by any other news outlet. I would highly doubt that the sox would forgo offering $8 million extra for VMart, but would be willing to go to $20 million per year for Crawford
  5. That is not the general perception where it matters. I can tell you most actual Yankee fans are perfectly fine with a pay cut for Jeter
  6. He's the retaliatory strike for losing out on VMart
  7. Aside from marketing, tell me why the Yankees cannot live without Jeter?
  8. Close came out publicly and said that the way the Yankees were doing business was baffling. Then he said that the Yankees havent made an official offer. Cashman, came out publicly with not only a straightforward answer, but the actual offer. He played the media card perfectly after Close chose to lie to the media. Cashman, for once, has a player by the balls here. Jeter will not be able to get the same deal on the open market and if he did, I am sure the Yanks would be pretty happy with him moving on
  9. If Close is coming out and attacking the Yankees way of business, they have every right to defend themselves
  10. That's not really accurate. Close, Jeter's agent, called out the Yankees negotiating tactics as "baffling". Cashman refuted those points
  11. I think Cashman is putting his foot down here. As are the Steinny's. I really and truly hope they do not budge on Jeter. Kinda hope they are willing to have some lattitude with Mo, though, as I think he actually has a market at the value he is looking for
  12. You're off on the costing virtually nothing for 6 seasons. For three, they are dirt cheap. They crack 7 figures in yr 4 and yrs 5 and 6 are close to market value. But the net savings is for 4 yrs. The only problem with a lot of the all star caliber players is that it may take a yr or two for them to really get it in the bigs. So, really and truly, it's 2 yrs of improving, 2 yrs of dirt cheap All Star level production, and 2 yrs of paying for that All Star level of production
  13. We'll see. Like I said before, Theo is always good for one big offseason splash. But losing out on your catcher isnt something that is replaceable. VMart was #2 in the pantheon of offensive catchers, after having leapt past Posada this past season. You arent getting #1 (Mauer). And you arent getting a guy like McCann. So that is a major downgrade, especially if Torrealba is your backup plan (which the sox have made contact with his agent).
  14. Most fans dont have a team spending $170 million a yr on their payroll. And most fans arent as rabid as sox fans. The Red Sox cannot have it both ways. They want their fans to be rabid, be part of Red Sox Nation and continue a sellout streak. They want them to pay top dollar for ticket prices and eat up merchandise like it's candy. But they seem unwilling to pay just a little over or right at market value for 1 more yr than they are comfortable with and expect the fan base to be happy with their frugality. What I find interesting is that they were willing to drop $100 million over 6 yrs for an unknown from Japan but werent willing to go to $50 million over 4 yrs for their proven, middle of the lineup, switch hitting 32 yr old catcher.
  15. He was an ass and then became a big time troll. We all rib each other and sometimes we cross the line. Knowing when to get back on the right side of the line wasnt one of Gom's strong traits
  16. If the sox went to Kalish in LF and Ells in CF with Beltre and VMart being gone, then yes, I would say the sox are cooked
  17. If I were the Yankees, I would give him until Sunday to accept the 3yr $45 mil contract. After that, it drops to 2yrs $30 mil with a club option for that third year
  18. Sounds like a dynamite lineup
  19. HAHAHAHAHAHA. I never saw that!
  20. At the time, the sox announcers and the media was pointing towards a neck/shoulder injury as the reason for the switch.
  21. Wait, so a "twerp with a computer" isnt a petty insult? Go f*** yourself
  22. I would sign up for that too. Man, would I sign up for that.
  23. It all depends on how his arm recovers. By the end of the yr, he was a 2b. If his shoulder doesnt bounce back, then the pitching and defense theory goes out the window. Saw a lot of rumors on him last week. My guess is that the sox feel that even with Lowrie's fragility, he is more of a true SS since he does have an arm (but less range). And since the sox have Iglesias in AA or AAA next yr, then they have some contingency if Mr. Glass strains his mons again next yr
  24. GB, relax my friend. If you wish to vent, so be it, but the postseason isnt over yet. Theo is always good for one big splash. And if he is cool with letting VMart and Beltre go, then maybe he is going to acquire Justin Upton, knowing that he'll have 6 picks in the first 2 rounds next yr to restock the shelves. We'll see. He doesnt sit there with his thumb up his ass. I see a trade coming
