    Meh, it isnt just about one down year, it is about progression. If a pitcher has a bad year, but shows increased velocity or was working on something, or was injured, then they dont typically get down on him. The problem with Zach was that his FB velocity disappeared after 2009 and his performance suffered as a result. Lars is similar. It isnt like he is out of time or chances, but he strikes out far too much and didnt seem to make much progress from 2009 through the end of 2010. Once a prospect stops showing progress, then they drop. If a prospect shows regression, then they plummet. Reddick and Anderson showed stalled progress. McAllister showed regression

    We were 2 games away from having the best team in the AL last yr with 40% of our rotation flaming out and 3 of our offensive stalwarts having down years. We arent sunk regardless. It is just that the Yankees like to build a bulletproof team on paper before the contingency plans need to be enacted. Regardless of how we are built, the brass dont like the idea that the Yankees need to be completely healthy and reliable to make it to the WS. They like to prepare for a team that if everything goes right, runs train on the AL, and if there is a good amount of bad occurrences, then they'll make the playoffs

    So, it sounds like the sox are out of the Crawford sweeps. Not surprising. The potential suitors for him are drying up. He very well may end up with less money than Werth

    Sounds like the Yankees want Wood back, but not at "closer" money. I'd assume Cashman would take him back at $5 mil or less. If we were able to get him back, our pen will be pretty much set minus one extra lefty.

    Matt Diaz is popping up on the Yankee radar as a possible Marcus Thames replacement. The guy absolutely dominates left handed pitching and can actually play the OF, unlike Thames. There are 2 other teams interested, but he'd be the perfect 4th OF complement for this team.

    I would stay away from Broxton at all costs this offseason. He saw a 5-6mph dropoff in his FB velocity as the season came to a close, and for a guy who throws as hard as he does, that has to call into question the integrity of his arm

    Power hitters are hard to come by, especially since you are either drafting a college player whose development time is minimal, or you are drafting a HS kid with power "potential." Actually reaching that potential isnt easy

    Upton is different, in that he's under contract for awhile and is pretty reasonable. Plus, there are a lot less flaws in his game. Upton would take a prospect load that the sox currently do not have, so the Upton to Boston rumors should be dead. This Reynolds deal boiled down to those last 2 seasons at 11 and 12 mil respectively. Sounds like the DBacks cannot afford that

    That's the nature of the beast, though. Prospects dont develop, fizzle, lose it, what-have-you. The key is to create redundancy, something the sox just lost in the upper levels with their recent deals. Regardless, I loved the sox 2009 and 2010 drafts. The problem is, the sox either graduated, dealt, or have seen the guys inbetween fizzle out. Your upper levels are pretty thin right now, especially on the pitching end

    And you have done nothing to disprove what I have said. Pena is a slick fielding, speedy middle infielder who cannot hit. Iglesias is a slick fielding, middle infielder, who hasnt proven he can hit yet. They are very similar players, although Iglesias has the higher upside with the bat, IMO.

    No, he isnt. Manny might be done in the bigs, IMO. I think he is gonna want too much money for what his skills suggest he should get

    Never overhyped him at all. Pena is very much like Iglesias. Plus glove, next to nothing offensively. Navarro isnt even guaranteed to stick at SS, whereas Pena is a shoe in to stay there if someone wanted him to. From the sounds of it, Navarro looks more like a future 3b based on body type and his already average speed. Pena has more trade value right now than Navarro does, and I doubt it is even that close. Then again, the difference between getting a retired player and a should be retired player isnt that big, IMO.

    Crawford isnt coming to Boston. It doesnt make any sense. It would make them extremely succeptible to lefties, especially in a division that has CC, Pettitte (potentially), Price, Lee (potentially), Romero, Matusz, and Cecil in it. The sox have done their biggest offseason lifting. I can see them signing a mid tier reliever like Fuentes, adding a guy like Guerrier, and signing a cheap right handed potential OF option like Ordonez or even a guy like Dye or Kearns. They need to at least get the opportunity to become more right handed

    Power arm, good breaking ball, meh changeup and a long list of injuries sounds like a reliever in the future. If he can harness his stuff, he could be a pretty good one at that. That being said, with the sox farm being absolutely assraped by trades over the past few seasons, he is gonna have every chance in the world to make it as a starter

    They werent kicking themselves about this season, but if Reynolds puts up another sub .200AVG season in 2011, then he'd be downright untradeable. Their finances are in shambles and dealing him now for some pitching isnt a bad idea. But man, that team is gonna suck hard in 2011.

    Gonzalez had surgery on his non-throwing shoulder in October. He had his labrum cleaned out. This shouldnt be much of an issue as he doesnt throw with his right arm. The only thing he might have some difficulty doing initially is generating a lot of lift with his front shoulder, but after sufficient rehab, which he should get prior to ST, that should go away. So from a shoulder perspective, this should be a non issue
