  1. Zachary Arneson is another college reliever. Throws 95-96 mph, with an 88mph cutter. Lacking in secondary stuff, needs a breaking ball, but big time arm.
  2. 10th Rounder Jonathan Gray RHP, Eastern Oklahoma JuCo.
  3. BA is okay, IMO, PG is also pretty good. But I would listen to them more on the collegiate players. I dont think they have a ton of info on the HSer. This is why I wait a bit.
  4. 9th rounder Zachary Arneson RHP from Lewis and Clark State.
  5. The ESPN ratings are pretty useless, to be honest with you
  6. Wetherell is a college reliever, throws upwards of 95mph. The Yankees LOVE the college relievers of late. Last yr, we drafted and signed 5 of them in Nuding, Burawa, Mullee, Whitley, and Kahnle
  7. 8th rounder Phil Wetherell RHP, Western Kentucky. Big frame, otherwise no info yet
  8. The sox have 3 4 yr college picks, one JuCo guy and 7 HS picks through the first 8 rounds. Law might know 3 or 4 of those guys, but there is no way he knows all of them.
  9. The thing is, it is going to take awhile to actually get all the info on the HS kids, and Boston nabbed a bunch of them. I think their second day is EXACTLY how they should be drafting. They have the funds to fill in short term gaps, but if you get guys who are projectable at a younger age, you might hit it big. Take a look at the list of elite players over the past 20 yrs, and you will see that a significant disparity exists between being HS draftees and college ones
  10. On Cave... http://sbb.scout.com/2/1076297.html Sounds like a Slade Heathcott comp without the 70 speed. He is a two way player, capable of throwing 93mph from the left side off the mound, but was drafted as a CFer. 60 speed on the scale (above average), a plus defender with a good bat and 20HR potential in the future. Sounds like this is the first truly athletic guy, as the other offensive guys seem to have average speed and are corner IFers or OFers at most.
  11. Through 7 picks, the Yankees have selected one college player, one HS pitcher and 5 HS hitters, 4 of which will make their hay with their power
  12. 7th rounder, Austin Jones, WA HS 1b.
  13. The Yankees typically dont either, but they seem to be picking a lot of guys whose biggest offensive plus is the power.
  14. 6th rounder, Jake Cave, CF out of HS in VA
  15. Matt Duran and Greg Bird are actually pretty similar offensively. Both live off their power, Duran has a bit more in the hit category from what I am reading. While Bird is listed as a C, he sounds like a future 1b or 3b
  16. 5th round, Greg Bird, HS catcher.
  17. Ital, you need to remember that picks in the first 10 rounds are slotted, and going overslot in those rounds catches the ire of Selig. A LOT of overslot guys go after the 10th round. That is what I am waiting for, although I do think the sox did a good job of getting projectable young players as well
  18. Noe Ramirez with the 4th rounder. Sounds like a pitchability guy with middle of the rotation stuff. Sounds like a safer pick, guy without a huge upside, but not a deep downside
  19. 4th Round Pick: Matt Duran, HS 3B from New Rochelle HS in NY. Have to do some research
  20. From BA: "In the high school ranks, righthander Jordan Cote, at 6-foot-5 and 205 pounds, has a projectable frame that scouts dream about. His fastball sits at 88-90 mph and touches 92, and adding strength and pitching in warmer weather should help bump his velocity, especially because he has great hand speed. His arm action is clean, but his mechanics need to be refined, as he has long levers and is still growing into his body. Inability to repeat his delivery restricts him from throwing a consistent breaking ball. Cote has better feel for his curveball than his slider, though he shows the ability to spin the ball. He hasn't needed to throw his changeup and it's a work in progress. For his size more than his stuff, Cote has drawn comparisons to Chris Carpenter, who grew up about an hour from Cote's high school in New Hampshire. Cote is committed to Coastal Carolina, and though the high school arms from Massachusetts have gotten more attention, one scout said Cote has the highest ceiling of any pitcher in the Northeast."
  21. Jordan Cote. Big kid from NH, dont know much about him, but a good frame. Will have to do some research here
  22. Like the Weems pick as well. We drafted his brother and traded him for Hairston a few yrs ago. His brother was a hell of a defensive catcher, his offensive tools lacked. This kid sounds like he has better offensive tools than his brother
  23. The Yanks were linked to Jerez prior to the draft, considered to be a 2nd-3rd round talent and very projectable. Good pick for the sox
  24. Sam Stafford LHP from U Texas. Capable of throwing 95-96mph from the left side, wild in the zone, needs work on his mechanics. But lots of upside. Good. Good. Like this one a lot.
