  1. Nova is getting bled to death. The first run scored on a defensive gaffe (again) from Ibanez and the next 2 scored on a series of 4 seeing eye singles. He's actually been good.
  2. we'd have dealt for Rey Ordonez. It's apples and oranges, though. Jeter continues to man a very important defensive position and for awhile, he manned it adequately. He's obviously a statue now, but he's 37. Montero was never going to be a good defender and the Yankees obviously thought he'd never cut it as a catcher. Add to that the fact that the system is deep in catching prospects and the manager is a former defensive catcher, and you were looking at a kid who was probably going to have to move off the position. The only logical choice for him is 1b and Tex is there for the forseeable future, so they dealt from a position of strength for a young ace. Unfortunately, once they saw this behemoth walk into his physical overweight as a 23 yr old, they should have nixed the deal. I get the deal, but I had been following Montero since 2006 and hated to see him go. I have a feeling he ends up as a backup C, full time DH who can put up .300 30HR 100RBI seasons on a regular basis. It sucks to have dealt him for the headliner who is hurt
  3. Tazawa has looked really good, and if the FO continues with their insistence on Bard in the rotation, he might actually get a crack at closing. That being said, you are 2 away games away from taking 2 critical pen losses from Minnesota. That ball hit by Plouffe is out in Fenway and the ball hit by Morneau off Morales is gone most anywhere but Minnesota.
  4. The ineptitude of the offenses and the size of Minnesota's park has made the sox relievers look better than they are over the last few days.
  5. Curt Schilling is one of the success stories from the surgery. He is not a doctor. And right now, the probability that Pineda comes through this with his previous stuff is around the 50% mark. So flip a coin....
  6. Bryan Mitchell needs to stay in Charleston for pretty much the entire season. DePaula will probably be in the GCL just to get his feet wet in the pros. My guess is he will end up in Charleston next yr and will fly from there. I'm also interested to see what becomes of Matt Tracy. He has a groin injury of some sort and should be working his way back. He was the surprise of the draft last yr as far as I am concerned
  7. Your opinion matters very little when you know nothing about the player in question. Barnes is 2 yrs older, was a college pitcher, and is at the same level. He is dominating the level more than Campos is, that is for sure, but he is also 2 yrs older. In 2 yrs, Campos will likely be in AAA should he not be injured. You could definitely make the case for Barnes to be higher than Campos due to velocity, which Barnes does have. But you cannot make it based on stuff, especially when you factor in another 2 yrs of growth and the control of the breaking ball and change that Campos has shown. I want you to look at Campos' numbers in short season last yr just for comparison. They are ridiculous Swihart was ranked based upon his draft status. Thus far, he's shown nothing at the same level Campos is dominating, and he is also 3 months older than Campos. So it's not an age thing. I think Campos ends up higher than him come season's end. I do think, eventually, Swihart gets it, but he's had an inauspicious start to his pro career Kalish isnt a prospect, A. He's already used up his rookie status. B, he missed 2011 and is not due to play in 2012 until around the ASB. How can you make any conclusions on him when he hasnt played? Middlebrooks and Bogaerts will be above him in the top 100, that is for sure. I dont doubt that one at all. Middlebrooks is playing like a top 50 prospect, maybe even top 25.
  8. I am sure they have Lackey's salary covered by insurance. Their goal was to set themselves up to stay under the cap for next yr. They are going to be right near it by the skin of their teeth
  9. He was 18 and was in short season last yr. He's currently 19 and blowing through his competition.
  10. Campos would be a top 100 prospect right now. He'd probably be right behind Middlebrooks and Bogaerts on your top 10 and just ahead of Barnes and Ranaudo if he continues his dominance. He's that good.
  11. Meh is right. It is not set in stone that he will come back as an 88mph pusballer. It's all in his rehab AND his recovery. The biggest problem with these surgeries is the avoidance of recurrent surgeries. When you have to go in there and fix the shoulder multiple times, the career is effectively over
  12. A labrum tear is not the worst thing for a pitcher. A rotator cuff tear still remains the worst thing you see regularly. But this isnt far behind
  13. If he moves to the pen and the velo comes back, then it isnt a physical thing, it could be a mental one. If he goes to the pen and the velo stays similar, then you have to think it is a physical issue. Regardless, a pitcher should not develop a stress fracture in their spine. I am wondering if they reworked his mechanics a bit to decrease stress on his back and in return they saw diminished results.
  14. Sooooo, this sucks. No Pineda means less cavalry for our rotation. Hughes confirmed what everyone else already knew, that he needs to go to the pen. He has lost so much stuff since he first came up due to injury and laziness that we need to salvage something from him. Time to swap roles with Phelps. I know Phelps didnt pitch well last night either, but he was throwing on 3 days rest after another prolonged outing. He's a starter, time to sink or swim with him. The good thing about yesterday was that Pettitte got up to 81 pitches. He's probably 2 weeks from making his 2012 debut.
  15. Work is seriously cramping my style and not allowing me to watch the games. I did gamecast inbetween sick patients and noticed Buch's velo was down. I saw a few 93s on MLB but a lot of 91-92's. Back in 2010, he was throwing a lot of mid 90s. Not sure why he lost a few mph's, whether he's not able to give it as much oomph due to the back fracture, whether he's holding back, or whether he is physically weaker and incapable of throwing to his prior production level. You have to think about changing this kid's role when Cook and DiceK are ready. Right now, he is a pinata
  16. This is obviously crushing. I should have stuck to my initial visceral reaction to the Montero deal and when the Yankees saw Pineda show up to his physical looking like a behemoth, they should have voided the trade. Here's the thing about the labrum. Standard recovery time is around 12 months, but it is frought with complications. It sounds like his injury is an isolated labral team, instead of a SLAP tear that would hit the biceps tendon as well, which is the one of the pluses you can take from this. The other is his age, which should lend him to recover better than those who are in their 30s. The problems come about with the recovery. There are frequent setbacks and what kills careers is when the labrum doesnt heal right, which happens more frequently than most other non shoulder surgeries, and causes the player to have to go under the knife more than once. There was a study done at an outlying hospital from 98-03 on pitchers with labrum surgery, showing that only 29% of them returned for 3 or more seasons, although the ones that did showed no diminishment in results. The procedure has improved dramatically since then, but it still a crap shoot. Diminished velo is often the rule, but also rarely do you see a player this young undergo the procedure. The only other prominent player I remember going through this at such a young age was Schilling back in the early 90s and he came through with flying colors. That is rare. As of right now, you can take Pineda's name and toss it into the unknown pool. It is completely possible that the kid comes back throwing mid 90s ched again and returns showing solid stuff. It is also completely possible that this is one of multiple shoulder surgeries he will need and he may not suit up in pinstripes ever. The crap shoot nature of this surgery has taken him out of any forseeable plans for the future and put his career entirely at the mercy of the surgical staff, which sucks.
  17. Kuroda threw well from the line score and gamecasting. I was working, so I couldnt watch and I'll be working tonight. So be it. Hopefully Hughes can get his s*** together, but I'm not holding my breath
  18. The sox wont lose this one, but Aceves should never be in a save situation again. If a real big leaguer was hitting, this game would be over
  19. Ron Gardenhire might be the worst manager in baseball. He really left Marquis in? Wow.
  20. that juts out to 380 feet almost immediately. Your RF is immense, one of the biggest in baseball.
  21. your short RF? Really?
