  1. Yankees must do something offensively today
  2. I dont know how anyone could be blaming the media for the negative view on the sox. That is absolutely hilarious. Wait, so the sox are a .500 team because Buster Olney printed something negative, lol. Beckett is a dump, take off the rosey colored glasses and see what is in front of you
  3. everyone has an ace or middle of the order projection over there. I do find it humorous. And they do pump the gun a little with velo readings on the pitchers they "scout".
  4. Pedro Hernandez was a fringe top 100 prospect before 2011, then fell off the map. He'd been good this season in the minors, so he was actually a prospect going to the Twins, but the sox could have easily beaten that deal.
  5. How about contributing to the thread, maybe refuting a point or two. Might make you sound more educated and knowledgable on all topics. It's easy to make fun of someone's opinion, but it actually takes intelligence to refute their points
  6. They need to get together with their marketing and PR people and come to a decision soon. If you dont commit to this season, then the fans will start to go elsewhere. If you dont de-commit from this season, then you'll be worse off come next season. Staying pat does you no good
  7. Thing is, his numbers and the fact that he is a lefty and one of the better pitchers left on the market means he wont be too low cost. And in Fenway, he'd be terrible. Think about it, he has given up the most HRs in the game (tied with Hughes actually) in the toughest park to hit a homer
  8. a nice addition? He is a soft tossing lefty who leads the league in HRs. Add him the Fenway and he's be a pinball machine.
  9. Ciriaco is hot. He plays the game the right way, but he is hot right now. After 60ABs everyone was willing to say Daniel Nava was better than Crawford.
  10. There is a market for a corner OFer with a .850OPS who is on pace for 25-30HRs. You might not get the best prospect, but you'll get someone of use. There is literally zero point in not trading Ross right now, aside from possibly pissing him off.
  11. Here's the deal, though. Let's say they complete their abortion but keep Ross. They dont get any draft picks for him unless they offer him a 1 yr deal for $12 million. Do you know how quickly he snaps that up? So if he isnt re-signing in Boston, then they can deal him for a need now and then try and get him again on the open market
  12. If I were Cherries...... I'd deal David Ortiz to the White Sox and get 2 prospects in return, top 10 in their system. Ortiz would move Dunn to the outfield, but would make their lineup ridiculous while their pitching got healthy. I'd deal Ross to the Pirates and try to pry some of their pitching depth away. You won't get Taillon or Cole with him, but they are deep in prospects there and could definitely use a bat for the stretch run. Also, an OF of McCutchen, Ross, and Marte would be pretty nice. I'd deal Beckett to the Braves, eat a shitload of salary and try to get them to include Randall Delgado. I'd even throw in a top prospect to get him (maybe someone like Brentz). That kid has a high ceiling and is big league ready right now. You could rebuild on the fly if he starts to get it. I'd look to move all pen pieces but keep Morales. Miller, Atchison, Padilla, et al. No pen piece is off limits, but obviously a guy like Aceves would cost more. Morales would slot into Aaron Cook's spot in the rotation. I'd move Aaron Cook to a team like the Dodgers. You wont get much in return, but their rotation is trouble in the 4 and 5 slots, and they are relying on Cris Capuano to avoid a meltdown, which isnt likely. I'd deal Mike Aviles for anything. His slash line is really the kind of player he really is, but his clutch numbers this yr might artificially jump his value. Take advantage now, bring up Iggy and start fresh I'd also trade Salty to a team in dire need of offense. Maybe include him in the Ross deal to the Pirates and try to see if you could pry a guy like Taillon with that kind of haul. This leaves the sox leverage to sign Shoppach to an extension as your every day catcher. The guy can hit at times, but is a solid defensive catcher, and his time with the club would actually make your pitchers a little better. It would also allow Lavarnway to come up, DH most of the time, but catch when Shop needed a day or two off This would leave you with... C- Shoppach 1B- Gonzalez 2B- Pedroia 3B- Middlebrooks SS- Iglesias LF- Crawford CF- Ellsbury RF- Kalish DH- Lavarnway SP1- Lester SP2- Buchholz SP3- Morales SP4- Doubront SP5- Delgado It wouldnt clear a lot of money for next yr, but it would definitely inject some youth and some prospects into a system without a ton of depth behind the bigger farm system names.
  13. Crawford is showing his fragile psyche, something a ballplayer in Boston cannot have. He's also showing his fragile frame, something any ballplayer cannot have. The sox need to try and get everything they can get out of him for next season. If he comes out and hits .300 with 40 steals, 15HR and 20 triples again, then they either keep him and love it, or they'd have a market where they dont have to trade him for a guy who cannot do anything anymore. But they seem intent on continuing the charade that he isnt hurt in the OF when his manager removes him for defense in the 6th inning of games. Just a joke. Management is f***ing themselves in the ass with this one btw, TJS is a 6-8 month injury for a position player. If it does take 8 months, then he'd be back by March 28th if he had the surgery now. The further they delay, the likelier it gets that he misses real time in 2013
  14. You are a glutton for punishment, arent you Brennan
  15. Looks like the Rangers are all in on Josh Johnson, meaning the sox likely are stuck with Beckett. If I were Cherington, I'd be looking at teams in need of another starter, be willing to absorb all salary in 2012 and some in 2013 and 2014 and deal Beckett. Beckett's peripherals are actually good, but anyone who watches him can see that the dominating years of Beckett are over. The longer they hold onto him, the lower his value gets. He should be dealt with like a hot potato. In terms of Lester, his value is so low right now, that you dont have a choice but to hold onto him. I also think that getting rid of some of the cancers in the clubhouse might open the way for Pedroia to take on a leadership role and get into Lester's face about his ******** attitude. Might help change some things for him. I also think he needs a real pitching coach, not a guy with a career record as a f***ing joke. Hell, even Curt Young for 5 months of dominance out of him last yr and he got crucified at season's end, yet McClure is escaping public ire while the rotation has crashed and burned all year. I know Cherries thinks he needs to be a buyer because they are "all-in" for this yr, but they need to stop following their marketing people and start following their personell people. If they play this thing right, they might be able to actually be competitive next season.
  16. I also think the AA barrier is pretty significant, but certain skill sets shouldnt see problems in the minors regardless. And as much as it is a fan's perspective, the only two perspectives that matter are Cherington's and any potential suitor GM's perspective. My guess is all of those people value Bogaerts over Bradley.
  17. At work for entire series, but nice to see the bats come alive
  18. well goodnight y'all.
  19. It probably is pretty close to time, but the callers on EEI had a good point. If the sox start to pack it in and bring up the kids, then the fans wont come and the "streak" and their revenue will be cut. They are master businessmen, maybe not on the personell side of the game, but definitely the marketing aspect. They wont give up until it is very late, so they dont lose the gates
  20. ARod needs to pass some of that s*** around
  21. The best part about the Rangers now is Joe Nathan. If we face them in the playoffs, we get to face him, and we always seem to get to him
  22. Albers is fooling no one. HR and 2 missile outs
