  1. I am sure if Wilson was offered enough money he'd be in the bathroom with the razor in 2 minutes
  2. I am not sure what kind of moves they are going to do on the pitching front. Their best chance is to upgrade via FA, but the two big options present a large amount of risk due to emotional and physical ailments of years past. The caliber of pitcher needed for the sox will come at such an unreasonable price that they would likely balk at it anyway. Think about this, James Shields was just offered to the Royals for Wil Myers plus another top prospect. Myers is one of the best prospects in baseball, I am shocked that a 30 yr old, pricey starter with only 2 yrs of control would cost that much. If you want to get someone on their level, you're looking at a major haul
  3. He's probably your closer. It's a good move
  4. I'd say Victorino is a 2 with a chance to be a 3. Even at his career norms, he isnt a $13 mil per yr player for 3 yrs. It's another guy who they got blinded by his stolen bases but didnt actually see the other skills eroding around him And for the sox, Napoli is a 4 with a chance to be a 5. If healthy, in Boston, he could be a 40HR player
  5. You have a healthy CC, Pettitte for presumably more than just 12 starts, a durable Kuroda, Hughes with his stuff for the entire yr, and Nova vs Phelps for the 5 spot. Couple that with a pen that should have a healthy Mo and Joba for the whole yr and we should see a pretty solid mound presence for this team. Remember, Freddy "the corpse" Garcia started 17 games for us last yr. We won't see that this season. I also expect one more one yr pen signing a la Brian Wilson to sure up the back end. Our pitching will be rolling 3 deep in top line starters, a 4th who was pretty damn good last yr and 2 guys capable of holding their own in a rotation for the 5th spot. I am not worried one bit about our mound. It's the offense that divebombed us in the playoffs and it is decidedly worse at this juncture
  6. I think the Napoli acquisition is a good one, especially for Fenway. And at 3 yrs $13 mil per for a slugger who can man C or 1B, it's a fair deal. Victorino's deal is puzzling, as it is a major overpay for a guy who doesnt give you a whole lot. I consider Cherington 1 for 2 this offseason. We'll see if he can go into the win column again with this latest teaser
  7. Our pitching will carry us. We'll be an old, brittle team with some damn good pitching. Come 2014, who knows what the f*** we'll be. We'll probably be $188.9 million dollars worth of total s***
  8. We're gonna be an old team in 2013, but one that should have a shot. We're gonna be a mix of old and young in 2014, who knows how that will turn out. We'll go back to our ways in 2015. If the Yankees get under $189 by 2014, then they get a $50 mil refund from revenue sharing and their lux tax resets to zero. This means that it would take another 3 yrs to build back up to 50% if we're over. Otherwise, they lose that refund and pay 50% on all monies over $189 for each yr. That will likely be in the $150 mil range overall. Not chump change
  9. Youk will be a 3b/DH split nearly the whole season. We don't have a set DH, so it's about getting guys who put up good ABs in the lineup. I doubt he plays more than 80 games at the position
  10. You will be a 3b/DH split nearly the whole season. We don't have a set DH, so it's about getting guys who put up good ABs in the lineup. I doubt he plays more than 80 games at the position
  11. They should take a page from the Yankees and look at guys who can give innings with solid effectiveness. Now, we all know CC is an ace, but he didnt pitch like one last yr due to injury. But the rest of the rotation gave solid innings with passable to good ERAs. While Sanchez has his injury history, he's been healthy of late and will give you 190+ IP regularly with a passable ERA. He's a guy I think the sox end up signing, TBTH
  12. I don't expect them all to make it. But I expect one to make an impact in 2014. We know we have Gardner in 2014, assuming no trade, so we have to find replacements for Swisher this yr and Grandy for next. This yr, I have a feeling we go with a platoon in RF of Schierholz and Ichiro and then come 2014, see how things are going. If you put a gun to my head, I would say that our starting RFer in 2014 will be Tyler Austin. The other two have injury issues they have to work through, so I expect one to flame out due to injury and the other to be a good big league CFer
  13. They shouldnt avoid it completely. I am actually surprised they didnt make a move on Haren. He'd have been the perfect candidate for a team looking to rebuild. He'd either completely suck and be a short term bad investment, or give your fans good entertainment and bring you a big package at the deadline
  14. If Ells performs to his level, a guy like Wheeler would be a part of a package rather than the whole deal.
  15. Exactly, and if the ASB is coming up and Ells is on pace for another 30-30 season with a .300+ average, then the sox will get a massive haul
  16. BSN, it's rare that we have 3 offensive prospects in our top 10, period, but those 3 are in our top 5 prospects overall.
  17. Mason Williams, Slade Heathcott, and Tyler Austin are all very good to elite OF prospects, 2 of which are capable of playing CF at a high defensive level
  18. I was just throwing that out there since it seemed to be the rumor of the day. I kinda like the fiscally responsible approach as we start seeing some fruit coming up from the minors. I initially wanted Grandy to get dealt, but now, I think he has to stay unless we can get an OF basher for 2013. We have 3 top OF prospects who will be starting 2013 in Trenton (AA). Realistically, one should be big league ready come 2014. So signing Hamilton would be out of the question. We just need to secure enough offense to keep up with what should be a dynamite pitching staff
  19. They won't, nor will they have to. For once in a great while, the Yankees will be flush with elite OF prospects who will be MLB ready come 2014.
  20. I hear ya there BSN, but I doubt anyone would be offering 2011 Ellsbury type return for the 2012 version. It's puzzling unless someone is willing to drastically overpay
  21. I'd take longer than that. Every time I eat at Denny's I end up spending an equal amount of time on the shitter afterwards.
  22. I just don't see why the sox would be greasing the skids for Ellsbury right now unless someone is willing to overpay significantly. Ells suffered an injury that obviously sapped him of his power. Without any power, Ells is valuable, but certainly won't bring back a huge haul. If they deal him now, they are going to get 50 cents on the dollar. If he comes back to Boston, hits to his 2011 level and the sox are out of it, they can get a lot more in return for that production
  23. Hunter also hit over .300 and had a monster season. Victorino had a down yr on all fronts aside from stolen bases. Even his defense slipped into the minus category in 2012. And let's say he does recoup his previous success, he's not a high OBP guy. He's a .270/.340/.420 player who can steal bases. That is very valuable, dont get me wrong, but without the elite defense, I do not think he's a $13 mil a yr player. To put it differently, Victorino is a Brett Gardner clone with a little more pop, less patience and worse defense. Is that a $13 mil a yr player?
  24. This is a puzzling deal for a team trying to show fiscal constraint. He's coming off a career worst season, is 33 for the 2012 season and makes a lot of his hay with his legs. I agree with the sentiments above that a 1 yr deal is a great idea, but 3 yrs at $13 mil per is a major overpay.
