  1. The Cubs gave up Archer, Lee, Fuld and Chirinos for Garza. They arent accepted s*** for him.
  2. If he failed the physical, then he'd be back on the market. They arent "failing" physicals here. They are finding potentially chronic problems that arent acute and trying to leverage the player. It's like doing an MRI on any pitcher and seeing some wear and tear of the shoulder and then leveraging that player. Even though every pitcher will have some wear and tear in their shoulder.
  3. I am sure you could, but the sox tried that with Schilling and got a big F-U from the commissioners office. HR milestones need to be career numbers, so unless the sox mark off 30HR per season per contract in someone's career total, it won't work.
  4. From within. That's the only way to truly stay back in contention. Otherwise you are spending out the ass for piss poor production. The only reason the Yankees stayed in contention was the fact that their home grown talent turned into HOF or borderline HOF performers and they had the means to build an expensive team around them. If Jeter, Rivera, Pettitte and Posada werent there for the past 17 yrs, then there'd be no titles in the Bronx in that era. You need to build from within then fill in around them.
  5. You arent really seeing my point. The sox are the only team doing this. They are going to get blackballed in the process unless they vastly overpay. Think about it, the market for Napoli is mostly gone, those teams in the running moved on. Now, he goes back into a depressed market all because he didnt fail a physical, but may have had an issue that would otherwise be overlooked. If Napoli goes back out into the market and has to sign for less than 3 yrs $39 mil the players union will file a grievance and I am sure there will be a backlash
  6. The method for which the contracts are vetted disallows that kind of contract from being a reality. You cannot stake a contract to anything more than MVP voting, CY voting, milestones, and games played. I do not believe you can give a guy a large incentive for hitting over a certain percentage
  7. I dont doubt that it benefits the team in the short term, but it will make free agents think twice about signing and will definitely make a player ask for more out of the sox in the process. It's a short term gain, long term loss kind of process
  8. They wrote it into the contracts of Lackey and Drew and tried to do the same bully method with Bay. Why wouldnt they continue that with AdGon and Crawford? Because those guys were the flashy signings that allowed them to market their new look team. Nobody gets excited about a fat, injury prone catcher. So they know that their only value they are gonna get is on the field and hence they can bully that player into a contract
  9. This kind of garbage with Napoli is going to make Boston an unattractive destination for free agents. This is now time #4 where the physical hasnt been bad enough to trash the contract but was concerning enough to where they decided to go back to the negotiating table. That either means the guys arent failing their physicals or the sox are using the physical as a negotiating tool after a contract has been agreed to. Traditionally, it has been, you fail the physical and the deal is null and void. The cat and mouse s*** about partially failing a physical but not really then bullying the player into a more team friendly deal will kill their reputation. Funny how they select which guys to do this to. AdGon had a messed up shoulder, but nothing was in that contract. Crawford has a wrist issue that wasnt addressed in his contract either.

  11. It's $189 million in 2014
  12. There is a 0.0% chance of bringing Rizzo back to the sox. He's young, cost controlled and will be a premium offensive talent on an otherwise weak team. He is going to be their building block around which they will arrange others. He's the kind of guy Theo approaches with a team friendly 7 yr deal around mid season and locks the kid up until 2020.
  13. Napoli was brought to Boston because his right handed swing would make Fenway a homer dome. He'd be an annual 30+HR hitter if he stayed healthy in Boston. LaRoche in Boston would be more of a questionmark, especially since LaRoche's career has been a rollercoaster for all intents and purposes and he'd be moving to a field that isnt kind to lefties
  14. The Red Sox finish with 75-80 wins The Yankees take the AL East and make the World Series. The Marlins do not finish in the cellar in the NL East The Angels miss the playoffs The Dodgers win a wild card play in spot and lose in the 1 game playoff
  15. I'll take that bet FSS, obviously barring any other major moves this offseason, I expect the Yankees to finish ahead of the sox
  16. Btw, the Mets got a frickin haul for Dickey. Syndergaard and d'Arnaud are top prospects
  17. LS, empty power isn't a terribly useful trait. And calling Salty's D avg at best is hilarious. He's a total defensive butcher
  18. Marcum is the kind of guy the sox need provided he can stay healthy. He's proven in the ALE and if the elbow is right, he'll go 200IP for you. He shouldn't come at a huge price, so a 2 yr deal might get it done
  19. Yanks got 12 starts out of Pettitte last yr. 12. That's 1/3 of a season. I am sure we'll get more from him. The guy who started in his spot (Garcia) was the second level of hell bad. Yes, we are losing Soriano, but you're leaving out the return of the best closer in the history of baseball. CC will be healthy in his return. Jeter has already said he won't miss time. We have Youk who should replace the production from Arod in 2012 while getting ARod back at the ASB. We also get Gardner back for the whole yr and have Ichiro for the entire season. The only real argument most have us if Swisher's loss will be tremendously impactful. The Yankees won the division with an injured ARod, CC, Pettitte, Rivera, Gardner, and Joba. And to say a team like TB will upend them even though they just dealt arguably their best pitcher over the last 4 yrs without any known big leaguer returning is hilarious. You have an argument with the Jays and maybe the O's, but it will be another banner yr in the Bronx. After 2013, all bets are off
  20. And unless they make a drastic change to their plan, there is no way I will put them first in 2014
  21. It's Yankees hate. Stop dressing it up as anything else. They have a full yr of CC, Pettitte, Kuroda and Hughes in the rotation. This will carry us to the division title again
  22. The Yankees are still gonna win the division and the last week of September will be without drama
  23. They need to win back their fan base. Remember 20 yrs ago they were the highest drawing team in baseball.
  24. You're saying that the tigers were an embarrassment, even though they went to the World Series? The yanks as well, even though they were in the ALCS? C'mon man, lets not get too poetic here. The sox need to build from within, fill their holes with short term deals and only give long term deals to the truly elite players of our time
  25. I like Mustelier a lot. His versatility helps us, but he's not a great defender at either position and there is a question as to whether his bat could carry in the bigs. He's hitting, he's walking, he isnt striking out and he can hit for power. Why the hell not? He's also holding his own in the winter leagues against big league level competition.
