  1. Rumor is he may have failed his physical. If so, the deal is dead
  2. I'd rather have Napoli at 1 yr $12 mil
  3. I'm hoping for a .260/.340/.460 line
  4. It's a good move, but I'm not expecting 2009 Youk to walk thru the door. They have to split him between 3b and DH for the whole yr to keep him fresh.
  5. Kevin Youkilis is a yankee
  6. They are deeeeep in the rotation. Chris Archer is a stud
  7. So James has Buchholz throwing a career high in innings and SFF, you have Napoli going for 150 games? Seems like James might be skewing his numbers a bit to please his bosses.
  8. The Rays just restocked their farm system in one deal, wow, and 3 of the 4 are big league ready. They likely fill Davis' shoes with Montgomery in the pen, to get his feet wet. Odorizzi moves into the rotation to take Shields' spot. And Myers takes RF while taking up residence in the middle of their order. This Leonard kid they got isn't bad either, he's another power hitter who'll end up in long season A this yr
  9. Pineda may be an option after the ASB if he shows he's healthy in AAA
  10. I'm cool with the Yankees not being the highest spending team, especially when you see what it's gotten us. Since we really started going over the edge (2004), we've won 1 title in 9 yrs. We have also seen some of our farmhands turn into solid to all star caliber players on other teams while chasing "the last piece" of a title run that wasnt meant to be. Part of me hate the idea that this really will be the last hurrah this season, while another part of me is glad to see us usher in a new stage of Yankee greatness. But we have to do this, otherwise, we'll start having $25 mil a yr players on the bench in the playoffs......Wait, that already happened
  11. They're over $220 million and will set a new record this yr for highest salary of all time
  12. Pineda's out til June. He'll then need to throw in the minors for a bit. He isn't being counted on
  13. They don't need aces. Nobody really does. You need guys who are durable who can pitch to an ERA at or slightly below 4. A guy like Dempster fits the bill. A guy like Lohse is so up and down that he'd be a bigger gamble. Sanchez is a lock if healthy. You need 2, IMO, to turn it around. You already have guys with promise in Buchholz and Lester. You can fill in 2 more holes with reliable guys in the FA arena and give Doubront and Lackey an open audition for the 5 spot in ST
  14. It isnt one that gives you a high probability of making the playoffs
  15. Upton coming off a poor yr and Bauer effectively giving his instructors the big F you hasn't helped their cause. Plus, they're obviously going for it this yr and acquiring an MVP caliber middle infielder would help
  16. SS, that's definitely a concern. Might he wilt under the pressure or get sauced regularly?
  17. I know it sounds far out there, but it might be the best way to improve the ball club. Remember, we need to get under the cap next yr and Cano is going to get a longer term deal. Might have to make some tough decisions
  18. I have a conspiracy theory of sorts here, one that I think is more fantasy than anything else. I honestly think the Yankees told Hamilton's camp to come back to them when he thinks he has his best offer. Here's why... Hamilton's past will certainly limit the years someone will want to give him. Now, his big money will likely come in AAV, but the yrs will likely not exceed 4. Thus far, only the Mariners are linked to him at 4 yrs and who wants to play in Seattle? Also, the Yankees goal is to get under $189 million for 2014, so it wouldnt be completely prohibitive if you consider Hamilton and the Yankees more a Hamilton or Cano. Hear me out. Cano is 15 months younger than Hamilton. Now, that is definitely a difference, but it isnt like it's a massive difference. Couple that with the likelihood that Cano is going to get a 7 yr deal and you're talking about signing a guy to a deal that will have a similar AAV through his age 38 season. We have seen how those deals are turning out in NY. In signing Hamilton, you'd be getting a guy for 4 yrs at probably the same AAV, but the deal will run out in a season where he turns 35. There is a much higher chance you see Josh still in his prime at the end of the deal (or near it) than Cano. So....the one big name team the Upton dealings arent linked to is the Yankees. I am wondering if Cashman is waiting to see if they can get Hamilton on short yrs, then go for a Cano for Upton plus Bauer (who the DBacks have soured on) swap. That would open up 2b for 2 prospects who are big league ready (Joseph and Adams), it would fill our COF spots and allow us to deal Granderson to a team like Seattle who is desperate for OF power. The money in 2013 will be more but by 2014, the money would be quite a savings for NY since they wont have to re-sign Granderson to a similarly stupid long term deal.
  19. Is that supposed to concern me? I just want to know where Dipre is, but now it looks pretty obvious since dupree is around. I like Dipre and am glad he's back
  20. Back loading the contract does nothing for lux tax purposes. Contracts affect the cap based on AAV, not on yearly payout
  21. what's dipre's new user name? I havent been able to spot him since I am not on here much anymore
  22. Yanks are doing a "background check" on Hamilton, whatever the hell that means
  23. The sox will probably have 2 left handed OFers in their starting lineup as well as a lefty DH. Having a right handed guy who crushes lefties in Fenway when you're facing Price, Sabathia, Pettitte, Romero, Chen, Matusz, et al multiple times lends flexibility to your roster. Cherigton has said all offseason in every interview that he wants flexibility and depth. Gomes provides that. The price is high, but not prohibitive
  24. DH, if both Napoli and Victorino crash and burn this yr, there will be another savior marching in under LL's thumb. I highly doubt these guys are unilateral GM moves, but they are being made to look like they are
