  1. Spud, nobody gives a flying f*** about Will Smith. And last year, nobody really cared about an oft injured Yankee who was billed as our #5 coming into the season. Also, if Smith was found with a file or scratch pad of some sort, he'd be vilified. The fact that the substance technically made it a little safer for the hitters makes it a moot point.
  2. Will Smith got ejected yesterday and we all remember Pineda getting run last year for substances aimed at getting a better grip. Hitters all seem in favor of pitchers getting a better grip on the ball for safety concerns. I remember in my playing days, on those hot and sticky nights, the ball would sail depending on how much I was sweating. It doesn't actually add any extra movement, if anything it allows the pitcher to locate better and keep balls out of hitters ear holes. I think the players association could definitely get behind a list of approved substances for pitchers. And the fact that Smith and Pineda are the only ones caught doesn't actually tell you how prevalent it is. As Freddy Freeman said, all guys do it. And unless it is egregious, managers don't usually call on it. Some of the guys I played with had pine tar under their belt buckle of in their hat. I played with a knuckleballer who had a nail file under his long sleeve, lol. Now that should remain illegal.
  3. We're dropping like a rock. More disjointed offense. More disjointed team. When we hit, we cant pitch. When we pitch, we cant hit. Sucks
  4. Twisted his knee out of the batters box. Stayed in long enough to score, but it swelled up when he got to the dugout and they pulled him. It's not structurally damaging enough to keep him from running around the bases, but who knows what it could be. Meniscus, MCL? Not sure. We'll find out soon. Heathcott gets a much deserved promotion, but even if he sets the world afire, he won't be able to replace Ells significant contribution. He's been awesome this yr
  5. Just snakebit right now. 6-2 lead and Eovaldi doesn't know to pitch with it. Then our bats go silent. Cannot be too upset about Miller, as he wasn't gonna go unscored upon all year, but definitely a deflating loss to be sure. We need to get home
  6. Their offense is really good. Volquez and Ventura could be a nice 1-2 punch, but they need one more arm to make it in the postseason, IMO. That being said, they can rake and their pen is lights out. They are gonna be a scary team this year. I'd rather face Detroit
  7. I would rather face any team other than KC in the playoffs, should we make it. They're built very similarly to ours, and while our back two have been more dominant this season, the royals offense is leaps and bounds ahead of ours. We're too similar and with their offense, we're not gonna take a series vs them without some changes
  8. Pineda had nothing yesterday and our bats have run cold
  9. Nova threw 30 pitches in EST. He should be back in a month. He'll go 45 next time out, then hit the minor leagues for 60, 75, then 90. After 90, he can go to the bigs
  10. Mateo with 2 more steals. 27SBs in 31 games to go along with a .352OBP as a 19 yr old in long season. This kid also apparently plays a slick SS.
  11. And this is what happens when you f*** with the mojo of your team. Saving your pen is a nice thing to do, when you are losing! Eovaldi's start was exactly how you buttf*** your team momentum. You go to Wilson, Betances, Miller and you at the very least split the series. We got handled by a punk last night and tonight we couldn't hit detritus. Add to that the fact that we lost Whitley and we're in a decidedly different place than we were 3 games ago. Looks like Capuano found his break to re-enter the rotation. I bet Whitley blew out his elbow
  12. Sonny Gray is very good and Miley isn't. Based on that, the sox will likely win
  13. Meh, I disagree with you on the offensive front. We're seeing solid progress out of Avelino and Mateo. Bird is just starting to rev up. Judge is absolutely murdering the ball. Jagielo is a masher. Mason Williams and Slade Heathcott are looking great. As far as our offensive prospects go, we are definitely seeing good progress (aside from Sanchez). We lost a few starters prior to the season and it looks like Clarkin and Camarena are probably headed for TJS as well. Severino has looked very good on the rotational front. That being said, with Lail now out after getting cracked in the skull, we are definitely lacking starting depth in the minors. Our pen prospects have been very good. I think the next guy up should be Lindgren or Burawa. Lindgren has a 1.65ERA with 22K in 16.1IP at AAA. Not bad for a 2nd rounder from last year
  14. Lol. Thanks UN?. The thing that bothers me about Joe is that he seems to forget which guys he can trust and which ones he cannot. Eovaldi ended up with a 7.1IP 4ER line he didn't deserve at all. The guy dominated for 5IP. He struggled in the 6th, but got out of it with a 2-0 lead. You've got a 2-0 lead in the 7th against a starter like Archer and your #4 is starting to lose his command. How in the hell do you allow him to go into the seventh without a short leash? Not only did Girardi let him throw the 7th, he left him in there with Wilson warming against Dejesus with the tying runs in scoring position. I get the idea of saving the pen, but you don't save s*** if you still use a guy you're trying to conserve (Betances) after you've blown the lead. I don't get it. For now, I'd only use Betances and Miller in games we are winning. Joe doesn't seem to trust any other right handed reliever now that Martin is hurt. That being said, you have to at least trot them out there once in a while.
  15. Why is he still in this game? He's giving up rockets right now
  16. Great job Girardi. You see your starter cruising along then he gets into some trouble in the 6th. You bring him in for the 7th, allow him to put 2 runners on and then allow him to put those guys across the plate without going to the pen. Great job being a solid game manager, you f***. Eovaldi might have a live arm, but he doesn't miss bats. You get 6 shutout innings, you be happy about it and be prepared for the meltdown before you lose the lead
  17. Meh, I am considering anything out of Tanaka this year a bonus. From the sounds of it, this wrist thing is minor and they are basically overreacting. That being said, IF Tanaka was healthy at the same time as Pineda, and it corresponded with a playoff run, we'd be a tough out. Our pen shortens games to 7 innings in the regular season and in the post-season, it could shorten particular games to 5 innings. I love the fact that Nova is returning. But aside from Pineda and Tanaka, nobody has really grabbed the #3 slot with both hands. Eovaldi has been hit or miss, Sabathia has been good for 2 starts and abysmal the rest. Warren has looked great through the first 5 innings of practically every game then shits the bed in the 6th. Whitley isn't really an option for a playoff caliber team. I am hoping Nova comes back as that guy, but post TJS guys are wild cards as well. If we continue this recipe into June or July, we are gonna be acquiring an arm, I guarantee it. I could even see an acquisition on the scale of Hamels. We have the prospects (contrary to this board's belief) and now we have shown that we can play pretty well. We're 1 starter away from being a tough playoff out. And if Tanaka were healthy for October, we'd have a 1-2-3 punch that would possibly make us the favorites out of the AL
  18. Kazmir was a power lefty who made up for s***** command with power. Since his injury, he still has above average lefty velo, but his command has improved dramatically.
  19. His K:BB ratio for the year is 18:1
  20. Pineda 12K in 5IP. His stuff has returned
  21. I know a lot of people are ripping the pitching, me included, but having a rookie catcher doesn't help either. Especially one not really lauded for handling pitchers. The sox are 1-6 since Hanigan went down. Now the offense has sucked incredibly during that time as well, but losing good defensive catchers and good handlers of pitchers can make mediocre pitching look awful
  22. Betances and Miller have been unreal. But it is time to give them a rest. My hope is that we either beat the f***ing hell out of Chen tomorrow or Whitley goes long. We need innings out of our starters.
  23. http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20150508&content_id=123160422&fext=.jsp&vkey=news_milb&sid=milb Sox 7th rounder from 2011 could get up to 43 years in prison for robbery and assault.
  24. Reality bites my friend. Just stating the facts. My bet is Farrell pays for this in season and Cherington pays for this soon after the season
