  1. The Yanks haven't been a good team since they lost Judge. He is the lynchpin in the lineup. Didi being down hurts too. Sanchez is just in a tailspin. Until we are full strength, I expect some lagging. If we can get healthy before the POs, I think we can make some noise
  2. You mean a 25 yr old catcher who is a year removed from a 33 HR season? Really?
  3. Sanchez needs to seriously be considered as trade bait, IMO. He’s had an injury plagued season, but when right he’s a damn good hitter. His defense is just not championship caliber and his value drops when you move him to DH. I seriously wonder if we’ll be in on Wilson Ramos and we see Sanchez dealt off for an ace
  4. Agreed. Right now, this team is reminding me of 2015. Different type of team as 2015 just aged all of a sudden, but same kind of pedantic performances. No life at all. That’s a problem for a young team. That’s on Boone. He’s got to fire this team up. A 1 and done in the WC after a terrible second half might see us have a third manager in three years
  5. Agreed. Sevy has nothing today
  6. I think there is a real possibility we move Sanchez for a pitcher this offseason.
  7. Sanchez allows 3 passed balls and a wild pitch he tried to backhand. McCutchen plays the deek game on a ball he should have caught easily. A missed swing call mixed in plus a couple rockets. Just an abysmal first inning
  8. Wild pitch for run #4. He needs to block that better. He is dead to me as a catcher
  9. 3 passed balls in the first for Gary Sanchez. Time to consider moving him off position
  10. Sevy's pitch selection had been the issue of late. Today, he has nothing
  11. Frazier now out for the season due to persistence of concussion symptoms
  12. Last I checked were both headed to the playoffs. I’ll file this one away for fun later. I only posted this thread after Heyman’s update
  13. There are the guys who were good and not great. That was Pablo and HanRam. If you look in the ledger, I was ecstatic you guys got Pablo. He was declining when signed. That being said, we have some generational talents in this market and possibly the best pitcher in baseball as well. I’d feel better throwing big cash at those guys rather than the mid level guys for slightly less
  14. Exactly. I think Cash thought he was getting at the very least a disruptive .300 hitter with 30-50 steals. He didn't know he was getting Johnny Damon without the power at the end of his NYY tenure. Just a bad move. Thankfully, it's over after 2020. By that point, his $22 mil and Tanaka's $22 mil will be off the books just when we will need some cash to re-sign some guys.
  15. I think you're well aware that we reached on Ellsbury. We don't have that problem now. We have a great team as it is. We can afford to go for top tier talent
  16. It's smart baseball. Teams that have no financial advantage and are effectively burning dumpster fires that players cannot wait to eject from, you have to think outside the box or be everyone's punching bag. That Tampa roster is absolutely awful, yet somehow they are 10 games over .500.
  17. Beats me. Cole had been solid up to the deadline, but the bloom is off the rose now. With an extended pen and a guy in scoring position, Cole was an odd and in retrospect, really stupid choice
  18. It's a smart idea. The premise behind it isn't a bullpen day, per se. Typically, he starts the 2nd inning off with a guy who can go 5 or 6 innings. The premise is based on how many times a lineup sees a pitcher. Typically, a team places its best hitters in the 1-4 spot. Well, if a reliever gets through the first facing 4 batters, then the starter can run from there. By the time the lineup turns over to the third go round (when batters usually have the advantage), the pitcher will be facing the 5-9 part for a third time first rather than the 1-4 guys, who are better hitters.
  19. Well, this past week was interesting as the regular season ended today. Dermis Garcia launched 2HR today. He played the entire season as a 20 yr old and while his first half was awful, his second half OPS was .827 and he hit 15HR's in 88 games. The kid has power, we will see if he can harness it next year likely in the FSL Albert Abreu finished 2018 on a good note, debuting in AA and throwing 5 hitless innings. It's been somewhat of a lost year for Abreu, initially missing time with an appendectomy then having shoulder fatigue, but he finished well. He is still a top 100 prospect and the plan is to let him get through an offseason healthy and likely debut in AA next season Domingo Acevedo had two month long DL stints this season, one arm related, another from a concussion sustained from a BP line drive. Acevedo was supposedly big league ready and even spent a day on the big league roster, but this year was mostly a wash due to injury. He will head to the AFL to add to his innings. Deivi Garcia got the call to Trenton to finish out the season. He tossed 5 hitless innings in his last start of the year at a new level. He hasn't even turned 20 yet and won't do so until 6 weeks into the big league season next year. The kid is incredible, and is clearly on the radar for the big club except for his innings. He's only at 74IP as most teenagers get capped in the 80 range. If one considers the 30-40IP rule per season, he won't be ready for even a partial season big league load until 2020. Michael King finished the year strong, beating Pawtucket with a brilliant 6IP 1ER outing. The kid has been nothing short of spectacular. He's allowed more than 3ER in a start once in 24 starts this season. He's allowed 3ER twice. The other 21 outings have seen him allow 2 or less earned runs. That is absolutely fantastic. He's also shown that he gets better with each promotion. If he starts out hot in AAA in 2019, he will likely have a spot on the big league club
  20. Another tepid offensive performance.
  21. That was a big one. I love beating Michigan and it's even better with Captain Khaki running the show. His teams have a significant propensity for coming up small in big spots.
  22. It is, but it’s also free agency. He can choose where he wants to go based on a multitude of factors. Let’s put it this way, if SD is the highest bidder, he’s gonna require he plays SS. If the team he’s on is gonna suck, he might as well play where he wants to. If the Yanks are the highest bidder, then you’re talking about joining a high 90-100 win team. You play where they tell you. Either way, I think the decision between Harper and Machado will be very interesting. I think both at their best, the better offensive player is Harper. At his best, he’s a triple crown candidate, but he also gets hurt more and can get in his own head offensively. In terms of what the club needs offensively, Harper fits that mold better as well. We’ve become very RH dominant. Judge, Stanton, Sanchez, Andujar, Torres. With the lack of development of Bird, we’ve been playing Voit at 1b. Our only LH hitters are Hicks (switch) and Gardner, and Gardy likely won’t be there next year. Add in Harper and you balance the lineup, plus seeing him hit in NY 81 games a year would be really intriguing. But Machado adds defensive versatility. The guy can play all 4 infield positions and can play 3b at a gold glove level. I’m sure he could convert to the OF eventually too. I’m torn on who to add.
  23. Another day, another fat ass pitcher sucking
  24. Bird did hit the ball hard and the outfielder caught it near the top of the wall
  25. We’ll have a pretty hefty post 2019 FA ledger with Betances, Didi and Hicks. All of those guys will see raises for 2019, although the only major raise of the three will be Didi. They look at prior two season’s performance, so Dellin has a bad 2017 and Hicks missed half of 2017. The biggest jumper will be Sevy, who will likely see something in the range of $7 mil as first time eligibles go. I think the ship has sailed on Chapman opting out, since his balky knee will make it less likely he sees big time bank this offseason. I definitely think we let KRob walk as well as CC. I think Gardy comes off the ledger too. With all the other expenses falling off and the Marlins chipping in some cash, our lux tax AAV will start at $82 mil. Add in the $15 mil for medicals etc, we’re looking at $97 mil. Assume Didi makes it to $14 mil, Hicks $10 mil, Betances $8 mil, Sevy $7 mil. That’s $136 mil with the majority of our team intact. Add in the other $15 mil due for prearb salaries plus another $10 mil for Chad Green and a few other arb guys (Romine too) and we can have a pretty solid base around $146 mil. The first lux tax threshold is $70 mil above this. The final threshold being $110 mil above their projection. You’re taking about adding three generational talent player to the team and still only seeing penalties in cash form only. Now the Yanks will have to be smart looking toward the future because Judge and Sanchez will have only one more year of near nothing cost before they get expensive. The good news is that Tanaka and Ellsbury come off the books after 2020, just in time for traditionally the biggest arb jumps for Judge and Sanchez and the first time arb costs for Torres and Andujar.
