  1. Losing the DH for Marco Hernandez? This is stupid
  2. He’s got one pitch. If you lay off the curve or hit the hangers, then he’s easy to hit
  3. Gonna go Workman and Hembree to close it? Wow, hold onto your hats!
  4. Except DJ has a near .500 BA with RISP. Insane
  5. The Rays are such a paper tiger. Even when we throw up all over ourselves, we still beat them. Boone needs to really push for the 1 seed. The only team I’m worried about is Houston and they don’t play us well in NY. Get the 1 seed, hope Minny holds them off, take care of business against the WC winner and go from there
  6. Interesting lineup against the team chasing you. Ford and Tauchman got a run home, but no real excuse to sit Judge before the ASB, though
  7. Yaz was 2 inches taller and played in a different era
  8. No way they were letting him go 7 after he triumphantly returned. Interestingly, our rotation is shaping up outside of the clunker thrown by Tanaka. German looked every bit as dominant as he was before his bad/injured stretch. Paxton was dominant vs the Mets. Happ was rolling before his most recent start. CC has been as expected as a 5th starter. We need another starter, IMO, to make noise in the POs. I am fine with a top 3 of Tanaka, Paxton, German in the POs. I am not fine with CC or Happ as the 4. I would theoretically like to add an ace and move all 3 down. Severino looks like he wont be back until the end of August, if at all
  9. The starters have sucked and on the off chance the starters did their job, the pen has blown it. It's an incredibly strange course of events
  10. It doesn't really matter. With 4 games remaining, you know Sale is cooked for the first half. You only have three pitchers left and an open spot and all 4 spots will be used. I wonder if Cora sees the pitching matchup today and is willing to punt so he can align 3 starters vs the garbage Detroit throws out there and go for the sweep
  11. Betts is more of a base stealer, so he is putting his body on the line in a different and equally dangerous way. There is a fact to my point, though. Small guys aren't the one's who play at top level for long.
  12. Aces get preference. The Braves had Maddux throw only to Eddy Perez when Javy Lopez was hitting the piss out of the ball. Pettitte threw to Girardi over Posada early on. If Sale goes into Cora's office and says, Leon is my catcher, then Leon will be catching. As a former pitcher (current if you consider the old man league I am in), confidence in the catcher can be the difference between a hanger and a K, a ball or a strike. I have played with guys who were unbelievable behind the dish and guys who were fat slobs. The confidence in knowing you can bounce a ball and your catcher has your back is very, very empowering. It allows you not to have to feel like you need to be perfect. I also have to wonder if some of it is game calling. Sale notoriously does not shake off his catcher. He doesn't call the game, the catcher does. Leon likely does a better job.
  13. It is the pitching. 77 runs scored in the last 11 games and the sox are 5-6. They have been averaging 7 runs a game and are a game under .500. When the pitchers give the offense a chance to win and the pen holds leads late, you will go on a roll
  14. My point on not re-signing Kimbrel has nothing to do with actually bringing him back, more that the sox didn't either re-sign him or replace him. Letting Kimbrel walk wasn't a bad move. Not going out and getting a guy like Ottavino or Britton was
  15. Judge is a better player than Betts. Judge is a 0.049 WAR per game player at the big league level, Betts is a .045 WAR per game player (pretty close). Judge has broken a wrist on a pitch (not under his control) and pulled an oblique (we shall see if this becomes a trend). Betts has been remarkably healthy for a small man playing with such skills, and as we saw with Pedroia, that wont last. I would take Judge over the next 5 years over any OFer not named Mike Trout, IMO. Judge also has the higher upside due to his insane power. Betts is a great player, no doubt, and I am sure the Yanks would be interested, but we will still have Stanton, Judge, Torres, Voit, Andujar, Hicks, and Sanchez under control when Betts hits the open market and I would presume we would prioritize re-signing a guy like Lemahieu over spending $30+ mil on Betts. If we were to spend $30+ mil on someone, it would be a pitcher.
  16. A single year of a 27 yr old MVP caliber player is worth a lot. Consider the team they deal him to stays under the first cap and Betts can net that squad a 1st round supp pick, something that won’t happen for Boston and he’d be worth a lot more.
  17. I’m also incredibly familiar with the way DD won last year’s title. There’s a reason why we spent 13-16 in no mans land. Building the way he did is not as easy to recover from as it used to be. The Sox has always kept a good farm system while winning, they’ve never gutted it from 04-16. It was always brimming with talent. DD won you a title with his plan and flags wave forever, but the fall off in this climate will be very harsh.
  18. You won it in 2018. Last I checked, this is not 2018. You’ve won nothing this year. The Yanks last won it all 10 years ago. The 5 title and 7 time AL champion run over 14 years had to fall at some point. We're back now. Enjoy third place
  19. Man, I’m being proven right this year a lot. I said in the offseason that your rotation was not one that goes deep into games and I got battered for it. Price is a 6IP pitcher. Porcello was the only one capable of going 6+ on a nightly basis. Sale was a big ?? With his injury and ineffectiveness entering the offseason. ERod is a chronic sub 6 inning starter and Eovaldi is always hurt. By removing Kimbrel and Kelly (not saying you needed to re-sign them) and not replacing them, you forced a thin pen squad to work at least 3 innings per game on a nightly basis. With Eovaldi going down, Sale being questionable on a start by start basis and Porcello losing some endurance, your pen has shouldered an even bigger load and it broke them. You cannot build a team touting the rotation then completely ignore the fact that more than 1/3 of the innings in a 9 inning game will be thrown by guy outside your starting 5. You can do that when you’ve got the 05 White Sox rotation, but not with the 19 Sox.
  20. You cannot punt 2020 with the guys you have being paid what they are being paid. You just cannot do that. If you deal off Beni and Betts it will be with other deals in mind to make the 2020 team better
  21. Bogeys has wrested clubhouse leadership from Betts, IMO, and is the most likely player on the sox right now to have his number on that wall when his career ends
  22. He is going to get paid big money. Betts is a guy who OPS's .850 when he is slumping and plays GG OF defense while being a menace on the basepaths. His upside is he goes off and has another 1.000+OPS season and is a team altering player. He is going to get PAID big money. DD should offer him a good offer in the off season and if he balks, you move him. A year of Mookie at 27 is VERY valuable and may be able to net the sox enough to make a serious run at other players. If the sox can deal off Betts for a prospect ransom, then go out and sign Ozuna for far less than what Betts would have made in arb, they'd have made themselves a little worse, but would have added flexibility to make a bigger deal for a younger, cost controlled player, or pitcher. Maybe the sox deal Betts, use the parts to get Castillo from the Reds and sign Ozuna and roll from there?
  23. 100% agree. I don't want any of the Yanks to play in the ASG. Its just another opportunity for injury. Let them rest
