  1. Henry put the squeeze on the purse. Any further addition put the sox over the final threshold
  2. Elbow issues. He was terrible in his return from the IL and has experienced a big loss in velo since he returned. I wonder if there is something serious in that elbow
  3. Wish I could watch it. Shift starts soon. I will be gamecasting
  4. The general tenor has changed, but my problem was the head in the sand, Yankee mystique logic thrown out there by Yankee fans while we're spending 9 figures getting Ellsbury but doing nothing to build from within. Now, the rabid fans want us to deal away our entire farm to win a title, only to advance us closer to the no man's land of 2013-2016. I don't want to repeat that four year run of mediocrity.
  5. Exactly. I post on yankee sites as well, but I was booted off NYYFans. If you don't have the same lockstep view as everyone they throw you off.
  6. There is a reason why fans here are shouting for the sox to blow it up. Mostly because mediocrity is punished in the big leagues. This is one of the things the MLBPA and MLB need to work on. There is no punishment for being absolutely horrendous. As a matter of fact, if you suck it hard, you get a great draft pool, a high first pick and an envious INTL FA pool. This allows you to get a premium talent then nab some signability guys picked below their ranking and rebuild rapidly plus the ability to spend money alone and nab two top INTL FAs without even thinking. Teams in the 11-20 range in the draft are in no man's land. Your draft pool is nice, but far below the top 10. Your talent left in the first round is nice, but the big tool guys are gone. Your INTL FA pool is good but not great and if you're in a big market, your INTL FA pool might be just as bad as the team winning in the world series. Team's who deconstruct and add talent from outside the organization then rebuild with high draft picks, high draft pools and high INTL FA caps can turn their organization around. Just look at the Mariners. They won 89 games last year and all that got them was a late draft pick, no playoffs and a team that was badly in need of a financial infusion to stay competitive. Instead of go for it, they sold off anyone with a pulse and turned their farm from #29 (the only farm close to the sox) and they're now brimming with minor league talent. They'll benefit from a high pick in 2020, a high draft pool plus a big IFA pool and they will add more talent. They also have deep pockets, so when Felix and others fall off the docket, they can spend as their talent is getting towards MLB readiness and they can have a long sustained window of greatness. The sox should consider this, but with DD in place, it ain't happening. The sox have a problem. I have stated it for years. You cannot have insane contracts for declining or injured players plus have the core of your team come up for arbitration and FA at the same time and all the while rape your farm and draft like s*** to leave the farm a salted wasteland
  7. How the ever living f*** are you touting Duran as a 2020 big league starter when he can barely OPS .600 in AA. You're such a hypocrite ripping prospects outside your organization then ejaculating over any of your own guys making moves. Or in Duran's case, showing a glimmer of life in what has been a lifeless AA experience. Duran may end up a CFer in the majors. But he is ticketed for AA again next year and maybe he ends up as a big league bench bat/speed demon at the end of 2020 if the sox are in the playoff mix. He isn't gonna be a big league regular option until 2021 at the earliest, and that's assuming he doesn't entirely flame out
  8. He pitched like dog s*** in July for sure, but there was an article about him opting out prior to his downturn. I think he will opt out because I am sure he will right the ship (he does this every year). He's got 2yrs $34.5 mil left on his deal. While he definitely won't see the same AAV, he can look at Kimbrel's deal and believe he can increase his guaranteed take home. These relievers are a single arm injury away from being done or in Chap's case, a drop in velo away from being done. Kimbrel got $43 mil guaranteed for 2.6 seasons and Chapman has been as good or better than Kimbrel the past few seasons and they're the same age (Chapman is 110 days older). My guess is Chapman opts out and the Yanks re-sign him for 3yrs and $45 mil.
  9. That being said, passing on Corbin for Happ looks like a mistake in 2019, clearly. I think our biggest mistake was passing on Keuchel. He’d only require money and on a 1 yr deal was an easy answer to our problems.
  10. Such a troll and a stupid one at that. Happ’s deal is a 2 year deal with a vesting option that the Yanks won’t let vest. Corbin got a 6 year $140 mil deal. We gave Happ 2 hrs and $34 mil. Corbin isn’t gonna produce at this level by the end. Where we all missed the boat was on Morton. He’d have been a great sign for less money than we gave Happ
  11. Now that we are past the trade deadline, the 2020 picture comes into clearer focus. The guaranteed contracts with AAV's are as follows for 2020 Stanton- $22 mil Tanaka- $22.1 mil Ellsbury- $21.8 mil Chapman- $17.2 mil (if he doesn't opt out) Happ- $17 mil Britton- $13 mil Hicks- $10 mil Severino- $10 mil Ottavino- $9 mil Lemahieu- $12 mil Arb cases Something to keep in mind about arbitration. They take into account the past year's salary AND the last 2 years of production. This will help us in terms of Judge since his best year was his rookie campaign and he has missed a big chunk of time two years in a row. It will also help us with Sanchez who has had a good 2019 but had a miserable 2018 Green- $2.5 mil Judge- $7 mil (better than most first timers, won't see the $10 mil Mookie saw due to the time lost) Sanchez- $5 mil (also better than most first timers, but big hit for 2018 performance) Kahnle- $3 mil (his 2018 was a disaster) Montgomery- $1 mil (missed all of 2018 and now 2019) Paxton- $10 mil (moderate jump on 2018 after a disappointing first year in pinstripes) Hale- $1 mil Bird- $1.5 mil Player benefits- $15 mil Last 7 roster spots- $4 mil Heading into 2020, the Yanks will have $204 mil on the books. As for the team under contract, it will look something like this C- Sanchez, Higashioka 1B- Voit 2B- Lemahieu SS- Torres 3B- Andujar. Urshela LF- Tauchman, Frazier CF- Hicks RF- Judge DH- Stanton SP1- Severino SP2- Paxton SP3- Tanaka SP4- Montgomery SP5- Happ CL- Chapman SU- Britton SU- Ottavino MR- Hale MR- Green MR- Kahnle MR- Cessa We would have a full team. We would be saying goodbye to CC, Romine, Gardner, Gregorius, Encarnacion and Betances. This is all assuming we don't lose or extend Chapman, who has an opt out. My assumption is we are going to need to do something with Chap, but my guess is he would get an added year at a lower salary and might actually drop his AAV. The first lux tax line will be $208 mil. The final line will be $248 mil. If Chap stays on, the Yanks will have $44 mil to play with before hitting the final line. My guess is they would like to spend a big chunk of that on Cole The craziest thing is that our tax implications drop after 2020. Tanaka, Ellsbury, Happ and Lemahieu fall off the curve. I’m assuming the Yanks opt in on Britton. I’d assume we would try to keep DJ. We would have some arb contracts to handle, but that’s $75 mil more to play with, with only one player really needing to be re-signed (Lemahieu)
  12. There are no trade waivers anymore. You’re either waived or not. No pulling them back
  13. The depth is very impressive. We’ve had some short season jumps (Duran, Green) but outside of a few pitchers and Canaan Smith, no major positional jumps in the long season leagues. I’m hopeful that next year we can see a new wave forming
  14. I’m a Giants fan. When we make the playoffs, we’ve got a great shot of winning the super bowl. The problem is, we very rarely make the playoffs. This year’s outlook ain’t pretty either
  15. Thanks for correcting me. I would like to see what BA has.
  16. cots isn't always right, but I could be wrong as well
  17. Fangraphs didn’t release a midseason update FYI
  18. You're hilarious. A major outlet puts him top 25 and it's not a good thing for the Yanks? It means he won't be any good? You're treading into FsB level prospect trolling
  19. If I am going to part with a kid striking out 15 per 9 in the upper minors at 20 years old, I am gonna need more than a guy who could revert to a 5ERA guy with the exact same peripherals
  20. I don't think the deferred money counts any differently. I thought (I could be wrong) it is total compensation divided by years of control.
  21. Stroman's season makes little sense. Compared to last year, his K rate is 0.38 per 9 better (not statistically significant). His walk rate is down by 0.64 per 9IP (once again, negligible). HR rate is down 0.07 per 9 innings (negligible). His GB percentage was 5.8% better last season. His velocity is essentially the same (up 0.3mph). He is using his cutter 6% more and his curve 20% more, so maybe it's in the pitch selection. But based on metrics, last year and this year are nearly identical. FIP last year, 3.91. This year 3.52. xFIP last year 3.84, xFIP this year 4.05. The major difference is WHIP (0.25 better this year) and ERA (a whopping 2.58 better this year). The crazy thing is, Paxton's xFIP is better this year than Stroman's. Stroman is a good pitcher, don't get me wrong. But he is getting by on a lot of smoke and mirrors. He's really a 3.8-ish ERA pitcher when all is said and done, which is good, but not elite. You don't deal elite level prospects for a non-elite level pitcher.
  22. Is it bad that I hope the Sox take the lead and Cashner exits just to tire out your sorry excuse for a pen for tomorrow’s game?
  23. Cashner imploding. Also guys, just so I’m not labeled a troll, I am not gonna be on the board for tomorrow’s game because I’m working. There I said it
