  1. You can hope in one hand and s*** in the other and see which one fills up first. For a guy to be ragging hard on the Yanks and their march to 100+ wins, I am floored by your insistence that your squad is somehow going to make it even close to the post season. The sox have fallen off the cliff. You got your title. Now you have to pay the piper. You'll have hope into September. You'll have hope into August and September next year, the following years will have little to no hope from day 1.
  2. I don't love the rotation, to be honest. I like Tanaka in the post season. I like a rested Severino if he returns healthy, for about 4 innings. I like Paxton for the most part because of what he can do, but have been underwhelmed by his performance. German has been good this year, but he's beyond his innings cap and I would be very careful with allowing him to go deep in any playoff game. If we have to tap into anything beyond those 4, then I am not happy. I also don't like that Paxton allows a run or more in the first in every game he pitches. Early deficits in the postseason are killers. If I had to rely on this rotation to go 6 and hand us a lead, I would absolutely not be happy. Since I need 4, maybe 5 innings and can reliably expect my pen to dominate from there, then we can roll with them
  3. Garcia has been moved to the pen. Interestingly, his first pen appearance was 5 days ago and he went 5 hitless innings. Not really a 'pen game. But the expectation is that Deivi will function as a multi inning reliever from here on out with an outside chance of helping the Yanks in the post season.
  4. The Astros don't scare me if we can get home field. Right now we have home field, but I expect a dogfight to the finish for it. Verlander is tough, but we have hit Cole and Greinke is a choke artist when the lights are bright. The team I expect to need help with is the Dodgers. They've got a deep, deep offense and a very deep pitching staff full of guys who would cause us problems. We don't suffer vs RH power pitchers. But the control, crafty shitballers give us fits and the Dodgers have 3 of them in their rotation. The difference in all of this will be when we unleash our pen. If we can be tied or have a lead when the pen enters, then I take our chances vs anyone.
  5. The name of the game for the 2019 Yankees is depth. The injuries we have suffered are insane. But the depth is what has set us apart. Depth in the pen with Betances out. Depth in the rotation to some degree with German stepping in for Severino. And to a major degree, depth in the lineup. Our projected healthy opening day lineup was 1. Hicks CF 2. Judge RF 3. Stanton DH 4. Sanchez C 5. Andujar 3B 6. Gregorius SS 7. Torres 2B 8. Voit 1B 9. Gardner LF Hicks misses 6 weeks to start the year, comes back well then hits the shelf again with an arm issue Judge misses 2 months with an oblique injury Stanton has missed almost all season with a multitude of maladies Sanchez has been on the DL twice with lower leg issues Andujar is out for the season with a shoulder issue Gregorius missed the first two months due to TJS Torres missed a week with a core issue, but has avoided the DL Voit missed time with a core issue, came back and has now been out a month with the same core issue Gardner missed 2 weeks with a knee issue We traded for EE, he is on the shelf with a broken wrist Frazier spent two weeks on the shelf with an ankle issue Maybin missed a month with a calf Lemahieu missed a week with a groin Crazy, and still we are on pace for well over 100 wins
  6. We don't need ace form. We need a guy capable of going 4-5 innings and allowing 2 or less runs.
  7. With how DD has decimated your farm, you’re not seeing duckboats for a LOOOOONG time
  8. The timing of his extension was incredibly stupid and will likely cost Dombrowski his job. He was under contract for this year. He finished last year with a mystery shoulder ailment that robbed him of his second half, his playoff effectiveness and his velocity. Then you extend him before he throws another pitch? It was unnecessary. You let this season play out. Listen, if Sale tosses 200IP and was lights out all year last year, then you extend in ST. With how last year ended, you have to be willing to let it play out. DD thought he got a discount, but what he did was throw big money at a broken down former ace and he will likely pay for it with his job
  9. I’ll take his .800+ OPS in the majors as being more indicative of his talent. I’m not worried about his bat. It’s the glove that needs work. He’ll be up when rosters expand. My guess is he will be a FT DH for us until Edwin is ready. I would have thought he’d be up by now, but it seems his defensive development is more important than winning games with the big club, with our enormous lead in the division to keep in mind
  10. You’re as dense as fog in SF. Duran can barely hit in AA. What makes you think he deserves a Gallup to the majors to start 2020?
  11. I’m not sure how much the now Tanaka is a conscious choice vs a diminished arm. Tanaka took this course of treatment for a partial UCL tear. It worked for his longevity, but the guy who returned lost the top off his velocity range. Interestingly, Tanaka’s average FB velocity went up by 0.6 mph, but when you watched his debut season, he was anywhere from 90-97 on his fastball. Now, he’s 90-93 with an occasional 94 mixed in. So he’s throwing the ball harder on average yet he’s lost the ability to blow it by hitters when needed. It’s made his fastball far more predictable. A 7 mph range on the FB is akin to having a fastball that can act as a Changeup. He was unhittable. Now, he adjusted, but has essentially become a far more frequent breaking ball tossed in the interim. He returned throwing 8% less fastballs and that’s dropped to 10% less off his peak this year. Now, semantics play into this too. Seeing “inflammation” or calling this an “elbow sprain” entails a tear. The tear could be significant or it could mean a micro tear. But there’s some tearing in there. The PRP is intended to repair the damage there.
  12. A 6 man rotation only happens when you have six viable big league starters. While the idea would be noble to save the arms of your two fragile pitchers, it would only guarantee that you have 1/3 of the starts delivered by your rotation by guys who don’t belong on the mound as starters
  13. Thanks, I think? But the comparison to Tanaka is not the one you want. He returned a clearly diminished player.
  14. Read my post. It was about Tanaka
  15. Tanaka didn’t return the same pitcher, though. He came back with far less velocity and essentially went from a power pitcher with a deep breaking ball arsenal to a junk baller. He’s not what the Sox hope for in terms of returning performance
  16. It is good news. If I were the Sox, I’d have them treat it like a partial UCL year, inject some PRP in there and shut him down from throwing until February
  17. Because we won a title in 2009 by giving out bloated contracts and gave out a bloated extension to a roided out third baseman against Cashman's wishes. We spent a few years reveling over the past with a broken down SS who is going into the HOF. We experience the back half of what you're about to deal with. We spent 2013-2016 recovering from and getting beyond those bloated deals. We spent those years prospect building and have created a team that leads all of baseball in win percentage. You may not remember the wresting of power that took place after the Ellsbury mishap. Cashman did not want to give out the Ellsbury deal. He fought that one tooth and nail, but Boras went to Levine and the rest is history. Since that deal was signed, you haven't seen the types of long term, crippling contracts given out like they had been. Cashman finally demanded and got control Now tell me, how does a team that leads the league in payroll miss the playoffs? That's what you're about to experience. Enjoy that one
  18. How do you validate any of what you just said outside of the fact that you hate the Yankees? If you ever want to be taken seriously by anyone on this board you actually should bring something useful. Happ is actually the type of pitcher who traditionally ages well. Lefty junkballers live long lives in the major leagues. Its the fireballers you need to worry about long term. Happ never had a great fastball. The problem this year is his fastball has trailed off from his already below average level and he has also lost bite on his breaking ball. He is leaving balls up in the zone more and they aren't staying in the field of play. But you wouldn't know that because you don't really know much about baseball, now do you?
  19. He's just a troll. This is his shtick
  20. Nobody seems to be willing to admit this. Happ was a really good pitcher for 4 seasons. The velocity fell as has his effectiveness this year.
  21. The Twins carry a one year option on Cruz. They're going to exercise it. No need to get locked in for three years on a DH when they have a good one for a single year at better money
  22. Keuchel is younger and better yet couldn’t land what you’re saying for Price. The markets got stingier for older, lesser players.
  23. Sevy did well in his mound work. He should head off on a rehab assignment next week. He needs to be ready. CC and Happ cannot start a playoff game
