  1. Porcello is going to get a cheap deal in the offseason in the hopes of rehabbing his value. He's already made big money, so it isn't like he needs a big paycheck and it isn't like he's going to take a lowball offer just for the years. Boras has been his council and this is the Boras way. 1 yr deal, preferably in a pitchers park. My bet is he signs a 1 yr $3 mil or so deal in SD with innings or game started escalators
  2. When Henry starts talking money, you know the time has come. He made a comment the other day about not wanting to lose more money or something to that effect. A purge is coming. DD's head on a platter will start it
  3. Of course I would want him in NY. He'd be a perennial 40HR hitter in YS
  4. They have to play with the same ball all year. Otherwise they are interfering in season, which isn't okay. They'll tinker with it in the offseason. I guarantee you will see less drag and higher seams in 2020
  5. You had a fearsome twosome for a bunch of years that you typically don't see in a singular lineup as well with Manny and Papi. I doubt you'll be hurting for long. Time passes, people
  6. The commish has admitted it. The ball has less drag. Do you want to know how to create less drag on a ball? Lower the seams. Lower seams means more hanging breaking balls and less command of all pitches, ie creating better contact. The ball is getting hit harder and has less drag, so it is traveling further.
  7. I agree. I’m just saying, could you believe the return?
  8. He's an arb player, so the max paycut he can take is 20% assuming he is tendered. If he isn't tendered, then he will be a free agent. He would be stupid to sign a below 20% deal with the sox when he could have his freedom to shop otherwise.
  9. Trout has a near 3 WAR lead on Devers, so my guess is he won't be the MVP
  10. I know they never would, but could you imagine the return he would bring with 4 years of control left and his age only being 22? His return would be massive if the sox truly blew it all up and rebuilt
  11. Luis Medina is finally turning a corner. Medina just turned 20. He is the kid with an absolutely filthy fastball, breaking ball, change combo with a fastball that routinely tops out into the low triple digits. His problem has been command. He had walked more than a batter an inning. They started him in Charleston this year and he had been horrible. But they finally unlocked something his last 6 starts. 35IP 8ER 22H 12BB 51K If he has finally harnessed his insane potential, he will be a top of the line level prospect for us. His arsenal is absolutely filthy.
  12. Bad depth is better than no depth. Johnson proved serviceable last year. He has been hurt almost all year this year. He will get his shot as he is going to be cheap and there will likely be a competition for the 5 hole in the rotation. There is zero chance JBJ is back next year. If he gets hot and finishes the year well, he can be trade bait. If he continues to suck and finishes the year cold, he can be non-tendered. His cost vs what he brings isn't worth it to a cap strapped team
  13. We also eliminated the Orioles from the division today. They’re the first team eliminated from their division. We still have a month and a half of baseball to play
  14. If we go 19-21 the rest of the way, we win 100. What a season
  15. The AL is far more top heavy. The NL is essentially the Dodgers and the field
  16. Gio is a better Fielder, but Devers is a star. I actually think I called it this year in preseason. I called a .300-30-100 season for Devers
  17. The Sox need to put up a front as if they’re trying to win, but preserving Sale should be more important than a win in a lost 2019. If I was Cora, he doesn’t go past 6 for the rest of the year. He doesn't go past 5 in September. The goal for the Sox is for him to have a fully healthy offseason and a full spring training with the hopes of resurrecting his TOTR status next year. No point in having him go 7 when down 9 in a WC race.
  18. You’re kidding. You really have to be kidding. Or high. One outing after sucking hard for a month and you want to anoint him as a better alternative than Smith, whose been a dominant closer or setup man for years? You’re too much. Cashner is going to sign with someone as a starter. His record in Baltimore is going to be useful for him and with the dearth of SP, someone will sign him on a pillow contract for a season to see if he can still start.
  19. Yup, never again for me
  20. German dominates, goes to 16-2. Should get 8 more starts the rest of the way. Win half and he’s got 20. He’s been nails of late
  21. My condolences moon. Lost my dog two years ago. Never easy
  22. I said this in my earlier post and got flayed! It is true. Vazquez has never proven to hit like this. Is this a career year or what to expect? If I am the sox, I deal him. 3 years of control of a good defensive and a blossoming offensive producer could be worth a gold mine
  23. A couple things. The sox were able to reset in 2017. They have been over the mark in 18 and 19. Going over in 2020 means a 50% surcharge on overages. I understand the logic to reset. I also understand the logic to avoid the top spot. But if the sox are $39.5 mil over the cap and don't have the draft pick penalty, they will still have to pay $19.75 mil on the 50% plus the overages for the second tax line. That's crazy Henry is not going to pump money into a dead team. The sox aren't on the cusp of making the playoffs. They're 9 games out in the L column of a playoff spot and 18 back of the Yankees for the division on August 13! Add in the perceived need to pare payroll and I doubt the sox are staring at a return to glory any time soon. I may be wrong, but Henry does have his limits Also, a Nimmo and Matz deal isn't that crazy when you consider Betts is only going for one season. Add in the fact that he is enamored with the open market and the idea he is signed before hitting FA is fallacy. Nobody is trading for Betts out of a thought they are going to get him for more than one year. They aren't getting a discount. They aren't beating teams to the punch. The only saving grace is a comp pick, but if they are over the threshold in 2020, their comp pick will be a 4th rounder and hardly worthy of anything.
  24. His nickname is the punisher. He crushes balls. He is an exit velo freak. He's a Voit-type player with skills beyond his minor league performance. If he can make contact, he will be a good player in the majors
  25. The Yanks have more power and essentially the same OBP. The Sox have 13 more steals as a team. Ultimately, the two offenses are pretty similar in productivity. Where the similarities end is on the injury side. We’ve lost an entire season from Andujar and Stanton, 2+ months of Judge, a month of Voit, 2+ months from Hicks, 2 months from Didi, a couple weeks of Sanchez, a week of Lemahieu and Torres (didn’t hit the DL, but both with groin/core issues), and two weeks of Gardner. Heck, we even lost two weeks of Frazier when he was with the big club. We have gotten yeoman’s work from some backups, but imagine if our lineup was actually intact? They’ll all presumably be healthy for next year. That doesn’t bode well for the AL
