  1. Moreland is a slow healer. He gets injured, the reports say 2 weeks to a month and he will miss 2 months
  2. Happ was really good today. This is the guy we got last year. Topping out at 93, lots of movement, hitting corners. He was great today. He’s been better of late
  3. Voit hasn’t looked right since he got back. With EE back, he might be better off shutting it down when Stanton returns and getting surgery
  4. Hicks had a setback and will be out for the year
  5. First thing’s first, you have to decide what you’re going to do for 2020. I think JBJ is gone regardless, but if Henry is trying to reset and avoid the massive surtax for going over 3 years in a row, his replacement might be Travis in LF.
  6. That hangover will likely last 5 years
  7. Eck hit the nail on the head. German is cruising into the 4th. Bogaerts smashes a double. German proceeds to get the next two guys out with Bogaerts moving to third. He walks Beni and then becomes fixated on Beni for some reason. Eck was commenting that German was changing his release and his motion and was questioning what he was doing. 2 outs, first and third, and he’s not focusing on the batter. Single, bomb from there and game over. German has always been the guy who has the one bad inning. Last year, it sunk him. This year, he’s mostly navigated it well. Last night was a bit of a reversion to his prior, which I hope isn’t a harbinger
  8. How’s this season going?
  9. German spits the bit and we can’t hit your pen. Strange. Time to drink!
  10. The yanks are missing hangers. Chacin is getting lucky.
  11. Spotrac also doesn’t count in medicals IIRC. I ran this earlier in the year, but if the whole gang returns minus Moreland, Pearce, Holt, Leon, Hembree and Porcello, the Sox should have something like $30 mil before hitting the top cap. Letting go of Bradley allows a reset. But let’s say the Sox keep the band together, jettison Bradley and force a reset. That gives you precisely nothing. Your offense will be sharp, even with Mitch and Holt moving on. But the pitching... Sale is hurt right now and was diminished all season. He’s not the guy you can hand the ball to and expect it back after seven strong with the lead. And his elbow treatment isn’t exactly proven to have great results. The guys who get the PRP for minor tears don’t usually come back with the same velocity and Sale was already showing signs of a velo decline. And that’s assuming it doesn’t fail and he ends up in Dr Andrews office next month and on the shelf for 2020 Price is going to have a procedure done on his pitching wrist. He’s shown a further loss of velocity and durability. He’s now spent a ton of time on the DL in 2 of the last 3 seasons. This year he couldn’t even average 5IP per start. And he’s 34. You’re not seeing vintage Price walk through that door. He’s a 4 or 5 right now assuming his wrist issue gets fixed with no lingering effects ERod has really blossomed into your ace. He’s not a standard lockdown ace, but he’s learned how to lead a rotation. Interestingly, he’s always been a guy who underperformed his peripherals with FIPs and xFIPs typically below his actual ERA. This year, he’s dropped the K rate which has hurt his peripherals but his actual ERA is better and he’s added length to his starts by pitching to more contact. He’s found far more success as a FB-CU-CH guy the last two seasons. He’s a guy who you’d have no issue with in your rotation, especially toward the top Eovaldi is a train wreck. Injured, bad results mixed in with intermittent dominant performances. Welcome to the Nate Eovaldi show. I watched it for a couple years in the Bronx. Tantalizing stuff but made of glass and surprisingly hittable for a guy who can throw like him. Hes a wish and a prayer and I’m so glad he is not in the Bronx anymore! Your rotation has literally one guy you can count on. You’ve got three health questionmarks and those same three guys come with inconsistent performance questions too. Your pen has seen Workman blossom into a good reliever. Everyone else back there is either on borrowed time (Walden), is too wild (DHern) or has issue with the spotlight (Barnes). So you need another starter at least, probably multiple pen additions and you’re at the reset minus JBJ. You’re going to force JDM into the OF or have another OFer out there that drops your offensive production. How do you align those puzzle pieces with a farm system that is on life support with the priest in the room? I honestly don’t know how Henry can look at his chances for 2020 and think they’re good enough to invest more money. I think he’s smart enough to see the window closed, they followed good money with bad money and they’re stuck trying to rebuild. The Sox now remind me of the post 2012 Yankees. Overpaid team full of guys past their prime in need of a rebuild
  12. I do love some of the old school sayings. Raining cats and dogs dates back to thatch roofs where the animals would sleep in the thatch and with a heavy rain they’d fall out. A wake is usually multiple days prior to burial because people back in the old days would drink liquor that was either contaminated or that was imbibed from lead cups which could lead to prolonged unresponsive ness. You held a wake to see if they’d wake up. Either way, the wake up never happened for the Sox this year. The nails are in the coffin.
  13. If we can take 3 of 4 in the Fens, we will formally eliminate the Sox from the division
  14. You’re not dealing Price or Sale right now. Price is staring at wrist surgery. Sale may be staring at elbow surgery. You’re not moving them .
  15. What if he doesn’t want to extend and is intent on trying out free agency?
  16. It’s a saying from the olden days when you were buried in a pine box that was nailed shut
  17. You will consistently underperform your pythag if you pen sucks. Also, this year is strange. So many teams on the tank and only a few on the rise. That being said, I do find it ironic that JD Martinez was lamenting the state of competition in the majors and that "on opening day you know who is gonna make the playoffs". How'd that work out for you JD?
  18. 2-3 decent free agents after resigning Mookie with what money? Devers is gonna be arb eligible and will cost a pretty penny. Beni will be arb eligible. ERod will be in his last year of arb. All of the awful contracts on the books will still be on the books.
  19. It’s better financially for baseball when the Sox, Yanks and Dodgers make the playoffs
  20. Competitive but not title competitive is the dreaded middle ground. Being .500 is the worst for farm building
  21. Draftnicks and prospect hounds are wrong all the time. Cano was one of those guys. He was essentially considered a backup IFer who might hit a little when he was coming up. Heck, he was one of five guys offered to the DBacks for RJ and the DBacks turned us down initially. Now the guy is likely headed for the hall
  22. if You’re bringing back the same squad minus Holt and JBJ and essentially not signing anyone of value to add to the sorry excuse of a pitching staff (rotation and pen), then what the heck is the point of keeping Betts? You’re destined to get trainwrecked even more. If Henry resets in 2020, he will dismantle the short term pieces of the club like ERod and Betts. If you’re gonna go for it, he’ll push to the final line again. It’s that simple. There’s no point in resetting if you’re going to endure another 86 win season or worse while watching the Yanks and Rays run train on the division and not maximizing return for short term assets and rebuilding. Timing is incredibly important. The hiring of DD aligned with the fall of the Jays and O’s and the down phase of the Yanks. Henry saw a window, took it, and you’ve got a 2018 flag that’ll fly forever. But timing now shows you the opposite. The Yanks are a deep juggernaut. To have what we have returning next year plus money freed up plus what frees up for 2021 (Tanaka and Ellsbury) and we’ve got a solid window upcoming provided we don’t sell off the farm and get into what you’re dealing with. The Rays also look good in the near term and heck, the Jays have a core to dream on. It’s you’re cliff, your time to fade and rebuild.
  23. Mookie will get an 8 year deal for over $30 mil per if he prioritized top overall dollar. He might do better with AAV going shorter term with vesting options or opt outs. Harper was offered a 3 yr deal for $40 mil per and turned it down. I wonder if Mookie goes for an 8-$240 mil contract with $120 mil coming the first three seasons and an opt out after that. Mookie seems to want top dollar. He’ll have his choice of top AAV or top overall take home
  24. Stanton is heading to Fla to face live pitching. Urshela is going to be activated once eligible.
  25. This was a bad matchup from the start. Porcello has been a Juggs machine and the twins have hit the most homers ever in a season and there’s still 26 days left in the final month. You’ve got 12 more games against potential playoff teams, 2 vs the twins, 4 vs NYY 4 vs Rays, and 2 vs the Phils. This is a gauntlet for a team leading a WC race. It’s a deathknell for a team 5.5 back
