    his initial symptom wasnt fatigue, it was back pain. He hadnt lost the weight a cancer victim typically does by the time of diagnosis. His strength is sapped now because of the chemo. The kid has a ways to go. Even when he regains his weight, he needs to develop his lower half, remember solid mechanics and be patient with his fastball. People who have these sort of catastrophic occurences tend to try and prove too much too soon and hurt themselves. He needs to take it slow and be diligent.

    and I think you would rather sacrifice short term with him and go for the long term gain when you have a talent like his. If the sox are floundering and the closers role needs some serious reinforcement, but concerns still exist, you sacrifice the short term winning for what this kid could develop into. He was something special last yr and if he can harness that into being an ace a few seasons down the road, then you dont mess with that for 2007. Take the hit and watch him and Matsuzaka tag team a tough rotation.

    wells has always been falling out of his uniform. Schilling is usually a little heavy round the gut, but he isnt usually THAT heavy. And last yr was the thinnest I have seen the guy since his ARI days. The sox decision is looking smarter and smarter by the day.

    easy money is showing up 32 times a yr in random locations over the US for 20+ mil. He isnt even taking that into consideration. He's talking more like 20 times a yr. The guy wants to stay home when it is all over, and to be honest, I think he is one ring short of calling it quits. The last thing he has not done is gone out on top. If we won it all in 2003, I think he calls it quits and rides it out on top.

    I dont give a flying f*** if Jeter is taking ARod wife out for sushima then double teams her with David Wells. The late 70s teams HATED each other. Just win a f***ing series and stop being an overly sensitive bitch about it (directed at ARod).

Just for the sake of argument, remember the stats here. 10-3 3.60ERA .255BAA 6.7IP per start 1.09WHIP pre AS 5-4 4.58ERA .310BAA 6.3IP per start 1.42WHIP post AS he faded something fierce last yr and it wasnt him losing the zone or anything. He was laid into the last half. This is a prudent measure.

    I am not sure Lester is ready, that is the issue. Putting Paps back to the closer either rushes Lester or dooms the sox to having Pineiro (one of the worst ERAs in baseball last yr) or Tavarez (a WHIP approaching 1.6 is scary no matter what the ERA was) in the 5 hole. But it also means that every 5th night is an adventure while the other 4 nights should have a semblance of order. Having Paps in the rotation means that every single night there will be an adventure after the starter leaves. Paps in the closers role is better for the team IMO assuming he is healthy enough.

    I know that. If ARod doesnt get it this yr, he wont opt out and he'll be a yankee for the rest of that contract, continuously choking.

    the same questions will dog him and it will only get worse, not better. If he is to validate his career, he needs to do this in NY. This may be the yr, it seems like the perfect storm is brewing. He loses the weight, gets faster, stronger, etc. He plays MVP ball, carries it over into the playoffs, wins a WS and then gives NY fans a big f*** you as he exits. That is the only way he opts out.

    that is what I am afraid of. This yr may be the yr that yankee fans give him a mild pardon though. We all know that he is an anchor in the postseason, but we need him to get there, and losing him via FA will be a major waste.

    I honestly think Jeter wants ARod to do this himself. ARod's comment a few yrs back was wrong, really wrong. I honestly think ARod allowed himself to go to the yankees so he could become bigger and better than Jeter. He was better in stats, but Jeter always had an aura around him for being a core member of the 4 championship runs. That was the last thing ARod had to prove to be the best SS in the game, even if he wasnt going to be the shortstop. He wanted this. He brought this on so he can be the best. He hasnt handled it to this point. And as s***** as it might be, I dont think he opts out because he hasnt accomplished his mission. If the yankees win it all and ARod is an integral part of it, I think he is gone.

    you have to give a closer at least 5-10 tries before you either settle on him or dump him. If Hansen of last yr shows up, that is 5-10 losses and even with how strong the yankees will be in the regular season, that will ensure you will be fighting for the WC.

    btw, ARod has shown up to camp 12 lbs lighter, is under 10% body fat and is faster this yr than he has been in years. ARod's bulk last yr was one of the skeptics focal points for decreased bat speed and drop in stolen bases. Sounds like he has rededicated himself in what could be a contract yr.

    well, this also opens up further speculation on Roger Clemens. The sox pen is gross. Adding Papelbon makes it less gross and all they would need out of the cast of characters in the pen would be for one guy to step up and be serviceable to tagteam with Paps and the sox pen would be serviceable. The sox pen is relying on 2-3 guys to step up right now. Putting Paps out there makes it 1 or 2, which is feasible in the pen. But, if that 4 hole in the rotation is filled by Clemens, then the staff will be complete and would be a bitch to fight off in the playoffs. If Paps is the closer, then the sox and yankees will havce a serious battle for Clemens.

Theo said that Jon remains an option for the closers role, likely intimating that the sox medical staff likes what they saw out of his shoulder. If this is the case, they may start the season with Pineiro or Tavarez in the 5 hole until Lester shows he is MLB ready. OR, they may look to the trade market which will come available this spring training.

    he'll be what, 34? His speed helps raise his average 20-30 points. You will see that speed start to fade and he wont be worth it, most likely.

    In a freak occurence, Jonathan Papelbon got way too f***ing intense and shot the sonofabitch who is filling his old role. Papelbon was quoted as he was being led out of the Fort Myers facility in handcuffs as saying "I dont give a flying f*** if I am in the rotation, that mother f***er is not taking my closers spot! Papelbon is f***ing intense!!!!"
