  1. pretty good, but it doesnt solve the problem and doesnt do anything for your playoff rotation.
  2. 2 straight good yrs after a very serviceable rookie yr. Robertson has a better all around repertoire than Beckett and he's a lefty.
  3. the fans will get a very good reward if Oden comes to the garden/fleetcenter.
  4. Paps in the bullpen and Clemens in the rotation would make that team real tough.
  5. Cabrera is available in 3 yrs.
  6. he certainly fits better into the yankees situation than he does in the sox rotation. If they are serious about Paps being in the rotation, then getting Clemens is useless and puts them further past the cap.
  7. I hope the celtics get Oden. It would be fun to watch. The only boston team I like is the celtics.
  8. Crunchy, the sox certainly got the better short term impact out of this offseason, but the gap to bridge was significant. I still think they are a good bullpen and a solid bottom of the order away from being the better team.
  9. he should make the team, so 3 mil is better than nothing I guess.
  10. I was hoping he'd go elsewhere and we'd get a sandwich pick. Oh well, he was a very good reliever until August and gives us another left handed option if Henn shits the bed in ST.
  11. there is but one god before us all on the talksox board. Can I get a yeszir!
  12. I stand corrected, young lady.
  13. NHS, I disagree with you about as much as one could disagree. Lester is not a viable option out of the chute. He MAY be an option late, but right now he is not a rotation option. Tavares was serviceable as a starter, but a WHIP of 1.52 as a starter is Chacon like and would eventually equilibrate into mediocrity or downright being terrible. After that, you are talking about Gabbard and Pauley, two guys who let a gawdy number of baserunners reach last yr in their debuts. Hansack? He is likely the best bet as a #6 starter, and that isnt saying much. As far as backing beckett, he needs to expand his arsenal or he wont be any good. Forget about the rebound, or the first yr jitters, or being overworked. You cannot come to the AL East with a blazing fastball and no confidence in your breaking pitches and be effective. He was dominant early on because he used that knee-buckling curveball and mixed in the change. By the end of the season, he became bat-shy and started nibbling with his heater. At the same time, he cut his finger again and shied away from the curveball. His changeup simply is not good enough to be a stand alone off speed pitch. So teams knew what was coming and he was tattoed. If that curveball doesnt find its way back into his arsenal as a hammer, he is going to get hammered. Staying healthy is a big if. As well as the if's brought about by every pitcher on the staff. Schilling was hit around last yr like no yr before and for a 40 yr old pitcher, that indicates a loss of stuff. Which should be expected at his age. He needs to adjust to it or he will continue to decline. Nobody has a clue what Paps will be in the rotation. He has lights out stuff, but you usually scale back the heat a bit and become more of a pitcher when you are counted on for 6-7 innings every 5th rather than 1 inning every night. Matsuzaka is likely going to be the sox best pitcher, but nobody is really sure what to expect. Wake needs to stay healthy.
  14. this is not common knowledge redstick, and for future reference, there will be no penalty for asking stupid questions, so ask away. I ask dumb questions all the time. But this is not a stupid question. Lester's timetable will be determined by how good he looks in ST. Now regardless, since he lost some muscle and certainly some strength, he may come out throwing the same velocity. But his stamina will be drained as will his lower half, which could result in arm injury. Therefore, they should take it slow. This means at least the first half in AAA on short pitch counts that progressively get up to a full game pitched by the end of the yr.
  15. I am still laughing at that one.
  16. where is the link, and btw adam, I think your leg is being pulled pretty hard here.
  17. No, his ERA was 4.2 for the yr and 2.8 in the last half of the season.
  18. but if everything breaks right for the sox, they could get 1000IP out of that rotation and it could contain 4 aces.
  19. no rician, last season they showed what they could do. Wang, Mussina, and Pettitte went to or above 200 innings. All three were pitching well to conclude the season. The sox dont have a top 3 they can bank on being 600IP or more, nor do they have a top three that has done it previously in the same season.
  20. do you get the sarcasm adam? He wants a "personal pitcher too" so he doesnt have to pitch.

  22. you know what. I am looking at Zambrano's stats and something scares me, just like Zito did. 115 walks last season, that is pisspoor and would not translate well to the ALE.
