  1. Its Moroney time.
  2. agreed. That is why I have stayed away from trying to predict what he will do. Matsuzaka is special, so is Hughes. We'll see how it shakes out. And I am a bit annoyed at the media for throwing our "Junior Rocket" stuff. The kid is 20 yrs old. I like some of the hype, but come on now. Roger may be the best pitcher "over a career" in baseball history. Talk about lofty friggin expectations. Then Matsuzaka is being compared to Pedro, the best pitcher "over a 4 yr span" in baseball history. Lets chill on these and think about being happy with maybe an injury free Mark Prior or a Jake Peavy style player.
  3. before we throw Pedro comparisons out there, lets wait until the kid throws one pitch state side.
  4. but the sox are doing the right thing here. His usefulness as an ALE pitcher is coming to a close and its better to be holding a spot open for Lester or Buchholz next yr (I still think they are rushing him) than to have one filled with a declining windbag.
  5. You know who Schilling idolizes right? The same guy who comes back every single yr under the guise of a false retirement to millions of dollars from every team in baseball. Schilling is a media whore, a fat ass, and a jerk. But he is a competitor and that will never be taken away from him. And until his competitive fire is extinguished or forcefully put out by no team wanting him, he will pitch past 2008. This yr he will have a dropoff as last yr his peripherals took a serious nosedive. But he could still be an ace in the NL and if Arizona is so intent on signing RJ to restore some butts in seats, they will with big Schill too. I think Schilling could get a 3yr 30 mil deal out of teams this offseason even if he sucks this yr. He'd be supid to pass that kinda money up especially when he came up kinda late and didnt hit the big money until he was in ARI.
  6. that is fine. He's sitting on more money he could ever spend in his entire life right now and he could leave that as a legacy to his kids.
  7. Schill is an attention whore. You will have to rip the jersey off of him.
  8. agreed. Overwhelm hope with depth.
  9. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/070222 this is a great article on DJ. Goddamn f***ing writers keeping this great player out during his life. Posthumous HOF inductions are stupid.
  10. the point of it could be that the ball doesnt allow itself to travel far enough to break. But if you have a dirty slider with the exact same spin as a gyro that goes 10mph faster, you will get rid of the batters only ability to recognize slider or gyro. Spin out of the hand is the only chance the hitter has. If the spin is the same, they will be screwed.
  11. the Beginning in Buffalo is a great sox bar.
  12. its a catch 22. If he plays well, he likely could get a multiyr deal elsewhere. If he plays poorly the sox wont want him.
  13. sad news from one of the greats. RIP DJ.
  14. http://weblogs.newsday.com/sports/baseball/yankees/blog/2007/02/a_young_rocket.html Giambi, Matsui, Pratt and Chavez faced Hughes today. In 35 pitches, only 2 week hit into fair play. Afterwards, Giambi called Hughes a "young Rocket" and followed it up by saying "he could have really helped last yr". Another positive is that Pavano hasnt hurt himself yet and thus far is looking pretty sharp. On the downside, Igawa has looked wild and rushed thus far and has had meetings with Guidry about slowing himself down. And Humberto Sanchez has shown great stuff, but has been wild as well.
  15. Schilling will test FA after the season. from rotoworld
  16. No, that is the rub, it is perfectly straight.
  17. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/02/22/sports/baseball/22gyro.html?_r=2&ref=baseball&oref=slogin&oref=slogin so it does exist, but it isnt a screwball, a cutter or anything that really moves. It looks like a slider coming out of the pitchers hand but stays perfectly level and straight. It doesnt dip like a changeup, it doesnt dive like a cutter. It just stays on a level plane. The creator of the gyro says that 10 japanese pitchers currently throw it and Pedro actually accidentally throws it every now and then.
  18. the sox will be in the hunt by the deadline. They always start strongly.
  19. long toss is a great way to build up arm strength and stretch out the entire shoulder. I think the Japanese may have something here. Very much into stretching and repeated motion. That is why they can throw so much.
  20. cmon bosox. Lets not put too much stock into this guy being anything worthwhile. Pineiro is what he is. A shell of his former self still using his distant past to bilk money out of teams. But Theo is the mastermind of the smokescreen. I have an eery feeling the sox have something brewing and signing pineiro to the big money he got was a way to tell people that he is happy with his situation. If you are happy, you have no desperation and desperation is a great leveraging tool used by other teams.
  21. no, I thought the 1.000was the OPS with a .600OBP and a .500AVG. That is theoretically impossible. If you hit all singles then your slugging is .500 and add that to your .600OBP and you get an OPS of 1.100. Then I noticed you said sligging 1.000.
  22. what is a half a mil or a little more when you are staring at a 7yr 140 mil contract sitting on deck.
