  1. Maggs is also an outfielder/DH who plays D like a one legged retard. ARod plays a tougher position and is in the tougher market. People could also say that Maggs could be removed from the tigers and sheff plus the staff could hold their own. This season, especially when it has counted, nobody has been bigger than ARod. He gets my vote.
  2. they are saying the yankees might enter the fray. Something I wouldnt be opposed to, but since we really dont need hitting at this juncture, I'd assume the price would have to be right. They were suggesting a Melky, Kennedy, and mid level pitching prospect for Tex. I'd do that so long as Chamberlain, Hughes, Betances and the other power prospects are left alone. I'd still miss Kennedy, but he is the most dealable chip at this moment.
  3. It's 5 games back and still 4 in the loss column. Just like we are 8 back in the loss column to Boston.
  4. they couldnt put anything together. Plenty of chances though. Fogg tightroped through a few innings. Oh well. I like our chances for the next 2. The biggest mismatch of the yr is the first game of the giants series with Igawa going vs Cain.
  5. fast answer, NO.
  6. the Moose had a respectable outing. The O just didnt show.
  7. how the f*** can we not hit this s*** pitcher. Damn.
  8. I love these quotes. This means I get to take a moron in for a tuneup. find a quote. I have never said that. I think Jon Lester can be a quality major league pitcher, I just dont think he is ready yet. wrong again Daniel-son. Hughes trumped him in ERA, K/9, BAA, BB/9, HR/9IP and WHIP. In pretty much every category and soundly in all. So no, you are way wrong, but nice try. I dont doubt that he has the stuff. But consistent command and durability are questions that will take a long time to answer and I like to err on the side of caution. you mean that team you dont play for another month +. Yep, lets set the entire team to beat the yankees, who as of now arent even a playoff team. The wilder Lester would get absolutely eaten up by NY. If Lester was not wild, then maybe, but there is no way to tell. As much as you may try, minor league numbers do not indicate immediate success. There will be a learning curve and having one in a pennant chase in Boston may not be the best of avenues for a kid whose overall recovery is unknown. Victor Zambrano beat us 3 times in one season when he was a DRay. Want him in your rotation? Dont think so. Again, you play us 18 times and the rest of the league 144 times. Prepare for the field and see what you do with us. Not in the least. Schilling has proven that when you count him out, he is at his most dangerous. I hate the guy, but I can respect his abilities and can see that he is trying to reinvent himself as a finesse guy. That takes time. But his last start was alarming and we'll see how he goes. That is all. BTW, you are still a moron.
  9. I agree. Paps is much more dangerous out of the pen and gives your team a new dimension. With he an Okidoke, you can shorten games to 7 innings. Not many teams can say that.
  10. there isnt an option on Schilling.
  11. you're not very smart. If the outings the last 2 starts are due to injury, then the injured schilling isnt worth having around, but a healthy one may be. But if this schilling is the schilling you should expect, then he is still a better option on a start to start basis than anyone in the minors at this juncture and any shitbum you can find off the waiver wire. He isnt the ace you once had, but he is still a better than average pitcher. You figure, his numbers thus far, 6+IP per start, 4.20ERA and about 7K/9IP. That is solid. That isnt Schill circa 01 numbers, but those numbers are better than what Kyle Snyder or even Jon Lester are likely to put up.
  12. and hence why he cannot be given a much bigger role off one appearance. Say what you want about Manny D, but he has an equal chance of walking the park as he does of getting 3 outs. Disprove this over a long enough period of time and then place him in a setup role. Until then, mopup duty it is.
  13. DELETE ME PLEASE MODERATOR, DOUBLE POST, DELETE ME!!!
  14. sorry soxfan. I just think this deserves its own thread. Chipper thought he was hurt and Schill didnt deny it http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2007/06/19/another_schilling_shelling/ and now EEI is reporting that he is going to Boston to get his arm looked at. Also, it sounds like Johnny Lester may be a few weeks away since he was just upped to 75 pitches on his count. This will be an interesting dilemma to see play out.
  15. that might be something that deserves its own thread. I'll give you the honor.
  16. nobody. The sox will not bench schilling no matter what.
  17. 7 in the loss column.
  18. you go to a 6 man when the rotation is loaded with old guys who cannot make their turn or when the entire rotation is slumping. Beckett, Wake, and DMats are pitching very well right now and even Tavarez is pitching his ass off. Going to a 6 man with this team would gum up the works. You can also do it if your entire rotation is very similar and you need to eliminate someone, like the yankees did in 04 with Mussina, Brown, El Duque, Vazquez, Loaiza, and Lieber. All similar, and Loaiza lost out. You guys have a topheavy rotation. That means adding a day in between starts to guys who you know are going to stay on the hill. Bad idea.
  19. Zambrano is 26 yrs old and you guys can have him. Those walk totals scare the s*** out of me and his personality certainly would make for interesting team dynamics. He walked 114 batters last season in 220IP. Bring that to the AL East and he will have much more trouble. He is an ace in the NL Central. In the AL, he'll be paid like an ace, but will be more of a mid rotation pitcher.
  20. Matsui was the pick. People forget that he was the 5 hitter or higher for us in 3/4 of his AB's. He had over 100 RBIs for a playoff team as well. He wasnt the 6 hitter on a stacked offensive team at that time. I know you like those off the charts stats ORS, but as always, team success typically has as much to do with an award as the player's performance. Strangely, that season was different in that regard. Could have been people not wanting to give a japanese player the ROY every yr since the japanese invasion was increasing, or it could have been a serious dislike of everything yankee since at that time the WS wins wee fresh in everyone's minds and by the end of 03, the yankees had won the AL pennant 6 out of 8 seasons. I dont really care anyway since Matsui has shown he is very much a team oriented player.
  21. hey scaff. What do you think about the topheavy nature of the sox pitching farm (Buchholz, Bowden vs the field). To this point, a lot of the highly touted later round picks of the last few yrs (Masterson, Bard and Johnson especially) have regressed. Is this more of a breakdown and buildup mechanical issue or is this an overevaluation of their talent?
  22. Will keep an eye out on scout.com for interviews and workout SR's.
  23. MDC is on the 40 man. That is why he came up.
  24. they dont have child labor laws in China, do they.
