  1. I smell something unconventional as well. I think Manny might be floated.
  2. http://www.examiner.net/images/021699/damon_johnny_6x9.jpg http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_453056.jpg
  3. 2 more taters. Kid is hitting the piss out of the ball.
  4. once you take the NESPN spin out of the equation, it is petty easy to see where the money trail lies. The only way he leaves NY is if he wants no part of being a yankee for any kind of money.
  5. The only way the yankees get that money is if the contract that is in place stays in place. Texas agreed to pay a certain percentage per yr of the existing contract at the time of the trade. An extension keeps that existing contract in place, it just adds yrs to it. So the yankees can still get the money from texas. Once he opts out and that contract is moot, the money from texas is forfeit. Hence, the yankees have an upper hand on anything anyone can give him, because they already have 46 mil paid by another team. Assuming you consider the fact that you will have to give him a set amount over a large number of yrs. So assume the yankees extend him for 3 yrs at 27 mil per, which is what he will make for the final 3 yrs of the deal in NY. That is 162 mil over the next 6 seasons. 46 of that will be paid by Texas within the first 3 yrs. So looking at it from a "what do we have to pay" scenario, the yankees can get ARod services over the next 6 yrs for 116 mil, which would come out to 19.3 mil per yr average out. Therefore, the yankees can offer the most without actually having to pay the most. Hence, the yanks should be able to give him the best deal. Now if he hates NY and wants out, he likely wont get that kind of deal nor would he have the yankees bidding since the only way he opts out is if the yankees dont make a pre-emptive strike and essentially pull themselves out of the running. Allowing ARod to opt out and then signing him again is a bad business move and a waste of 46 million dollars.
  6. it is yearly. 46 mil over the next 3 seasons.
  7. ozzie is overrated.
  8. an extension would NOT negate what Texas would throw the yankees way since the original contract is still in place for the next 3 yrs. the point is that 46 mil or so is still being sent from Texas for the next 3 yrs. Lets assume ARod gets extended for 3 seasons, then he would make 27 mil a yr from 08 to 13 yet the 46 mil from Texas would be collected through 2010.
  9. He throws cheese.
  10. The yankees and Boras will play a game of chicken.
  11. and a Cleveland era Coco is better than anything Ellsbury would become since Coco has power.
  12. I would be more likely to offer Ellsbury than Anderson. Anderson could be a monster.
  13. not coming from me. Not until we get to within 5 in the loss column.
  14. 9 games back in the loss column. Creeping along. I am waiting for the reverse dickpunch to come. the good thing is, it cannot ome for another 3 or 4 days or so.
  15. PROCTOR IS IN FOR A f***ING 12-0 game!!!
  16. ARod would be stupid to opt out without checking all avenues with NY. When 46 mil is coming your way via texas, you know the yankees have a leg up on anything you can get on the open market. If he opts out, he isnt returning.
  17. I KNOW THAT!!! I AM SAYING THAT ANY DEAL IS CONTINGENT ON A 72 HOUR WINDOW TO NEGOTIATE A DEAL!!! And to be honest with you, what player of the bunch you mentioned above is an icon? I liked DiceK from the beginning. Beckett returned to what made him solid. Okajima will not continue to be THIS dominant. And Pedroia may or may not continue this hot streak for his career. All I am saying is that Ellsbury doesnt have the tools to be a Griffey or an Andruw. Those are the kind of prospects you hang onto. Ellsbury could be a very good major leaguer, but without that 20+ homer potential, he isnt as untradeable as you may think.
  18. that wont happen. If he opts out, the yankees wont pay him dick. If he doesnt opt out but threatens to, the yankees can extend him and keep Texas' pay.
  19. David Cone
  20. I think the deal here is that the dominican players come up much rawer but with much more projection. Some of these fringe guys that he is talking about are about as finished a product as they are going to be. Scaff isnt a racist. He likes projection. Even if the projection is not going to be reached, there is the off chance that the kid will put it together. I mean, it isnt like Papelbon is going to "find it" and start throwing 95.
  21. Why should he mention a desire to play in Boston? And who gives a rats ass if a player has a desire to play somewhere. Here are the points to hammer home. Buehrle> Lester and Ellsbury This is absolutely true right now and is likely true for all time unless you think both are going to reach their potential. And the word potential is used a lot, yet 90% of players never reach it. Buehrle is a young ace who is left handed, pitches fast, and throws strikes. Lester is a kid recovering from cancer who has had questionable control and has shown limited ability to consistently throw strikes to better than your average MiLB hitters. Ellsbury is a kid who has a nice eye and makes good contact, but may have a ceiling of a Juan Pierre and most likely will be a powerless Mark Kotsay. They both may reach the potential and be perenial allstars. But which group, Ells and Lester, or Buerhle will most likely help the sox more. Answer: Buerhle Also, we all agree that a window would have to be agreed to. If there is a window, who gives a rats ass where he wishes to play. If he signs the contract, then he is showing he wishes to play there. if he doesnt, this entire conversation is moot.
