  1. so much for the prognosticative value as of right now. As the yankees are just murdering the Guardians.
  2. I was surprised the sox hit a soft tossing lefty so well. Good game from Beckett as well. This was a must win for the sox after losing so badly.
  3. and 95% of the time they are dead on. The 5% of the time they are wrong, they are grilled for it. Its a thankless job. Last night wasnt too bad. Tonight wont be either. Its the monday nights and the friday nights that are a zoo.
  4. Gom, I have a feeling Abreu's option will be picked up and he'll be shopped similar to sheffield. Abreu is hot right now, and with 6 weeks remaining, his numbers are on a steep incline. By the end of the season, he may very well have a .300BA and a .850-.900OPS with 20+ steals which will make him worth that 16mil. And with no other solid option internally, we may just hang onto him. I have a feeling we will be shopping Damon this offseason.
  5. To his credit, Posada did improve defensively in the running game. Most of the pitchers like the way he calls the game too, but he wont be mistaken for a defensive catcher at any point. Molina is all D. In terms of why Molina was catching, Mussina had liked Nieves prior to Nieves sucking and being sent out so maybe he requested Molina. Also, Posada is a bit banged up from his collision with Danny Richar a week or so ago and maybe he is just getting a 3rd day in a row off. Overall, Moose's line was dynamite. Good for him finally coming back with a few strong outings in a row. Too bad I couldnt watch it. But if Moose and Pettitte are on with Clemens and Wang, that is one heck of a top 4. Throw in the kid and I'll take our starting 5 against any in the game.
  6. True. Then again, I dont think he'll be facing the same top heavy lineup he faced in 04. Our lineup is deep and the bench is deep. We'll hit. The question is, will you?
  7. I work in an hour until 2a (at the earliest, most likely 4a). So I am just getting ready.
  8. Schilling sucked before he left for the DL as well and is old and has a declining arsenal. I think he looked better than he did when he left, but I am not expecting him to do anything special.
  9. He didnt get a lot of help? JD Shrew did let that ball get by him, but aside from that, nothing was cheap off him. He was shelled.
  10. .328 and a .887OPS since April. Even better over the last 2 months as he is hitting over .340.
  11. I wont throw around that kind of language with the schedule we have in front of us right now. We still have ??? on our end too. Just our offense has made those ??? less apparent. Hughes helped clear the picture a little last night and with Joba looking like a dominant force in the pen along with vintage Mo, and we sure do have some nice answers. But lets wait about 2 weeks before we start talk of winning the ALCS.
  12. 3.1IP 9H 6ER later and Gagne becomes the biggest questionmark in the sox bullpen. His change was flat last night and the heat (I say that sarcastically) was barely cracking 91. He couldnt locate s***, which seems to be a pretty common theme for him since coming to Boston. Is it just jitters, or is he feeling fatigued in his first full season in 2 yrs. We'll see, but this trade is going from sure shot dominant back end to OkiPap again.
  13. The revamped Moose against Paul Byrd. We hit Byrd well (to the tune of a .325BAA over the last 3 yrs).
  14. Dont think so Gom. As mediocre as the sox have looked at times over the past 2 months or so, take a look at the competition for the WC in the event that we would overtake them (still unlikely). To be honest, while the tigers and mariners are losing to the white sox, drays, and A's, we have been tooling on the shittier teams and the sox have at least held their own against both the good and the bad. Unless something drastically changes, I would not be surprised if we both make the playoffs. One thing though. I REALLY HOPE we win the division, because the angels will be the 2 seed in all likelihood and I dont think we can take them in a short series. Imagine, after this crazy ass season, if we both meet in the ALCS again for the 3rd time in 5 yrs. So sox, tank the division, take the wild card, waltz over the angels like you always do and see us in the ALCS. Sound like a plan?
  15. good to see ya back VA. It must have been a tough one, but having a 5 game lead is not cause to dig your head in the sand like some of your compadres.
  16. It is almost as if sox fans on this site died last night. Where the hell are y'all?
  17. Brackman is in Tampa working out at the yankees complex, a sure sign that he and the yankees have agreed to a contract. Also there are the yankees 2nd round pick, Austin Romine, and their 6th round pick, Chase Weems. On August 15th, we will know for sure if the entire class was signed.
  18. Mattingly didnt have much to do. Hughes was filthy, Joba was unreal and Mo was Mo. It is very easy when you crush the opposing pitching and dont give up s***. BTW, Joba was DIRRRRTY. He could be what Zumaya was to the tigers last yr. 96-99mph heat with a 88-90mph slider that has a 1 to 7 break. It really is filthy.
  19. I know this loss hurts for most sox fans, but how many times will your pen be the culprit? Answer: not many. They flubbed one tonight, so be it. The only thing that should be concerning is that it was one of DiceK's starts, which as I pointed out previously, should be won. In terms of worry about the yankees, it is within 5 which is the marker for me to get excited about the division. Yet, we have been within 5 before and each and every time we get this close, we falter back. So no excitement yet. What I would say, though, is that with DiceK neutralized and a loss in his start, this hurts a lot. Not only do you lose a game that you should have won, you lost a game that you should be able to pencil in as a win prior to even taking the field. The last silver bullet in your arsenal is Beckett before you have to step down to the 3,4,and 5 which is anything but a sure thing. If you lose tomorrow, then worry should set back in.
  20. Seattle 63 50 .558 - - New York 64 51 .557 - - Detroit 63 52 .548 1.0 Minnesota 58 56 .509 5.5 Toronto 57 56 .504 6.0 Oakland 56 60 .483 8.5 Chicago 54 61 .470 10.0 Baltimore 53 61 .465 10.5 Kansas City 50 63 .442 13.0 Texas 49 65 .430 14.5 Tampa Bay 44 70 .386 19.5 1 game back in the L column, here we go YANKEES!!
  21. Rotation wise, the sox throw a strong top 2 and a mediocre 3 and 4 which is usually enough to win some games. Having Phil at full strength is certainly an advantage over Lester, who is pretty obviously not at full strength. Your pen is still better, even though I do not think Gagne is very strong at this point IMHO. We shall see who hits the good pitching down the stretch.
  22. Right now it all comes down to matchups. Tomorrow is Beckett vs a pretty good lefty rookie which means the sox will struggle to score off him. Beckett better be on his game because you wont likely give him any support until the mushy underbelly of the Oriole pen is exposed. Then you get to have the tossup of Schilling vs Trachsel, who both are old and spiralling into suck mode. If I was a betting man, I'd assume you win both. In terms of TB, you guys get their 2 toughest pitchers right off the bat in Shields and Kazmir. These 2 series are anything but a walk in the park against these typical pushovers. Now for us, we beat the hot Carmona and miss Sabathia, only to get Guthrie and Bedard in Baltimore. Same deal, we just need to keep hitting the good pitching.
