  1. you should see some of the "trade offers" on the yankee sites for Cabrera. Frickin hilarious. "So, we can trade Marquez and Karstens for Cabrera straight up!" Ummm, not gonna happen. Either way, Cabrera scares me. He has the work ethic of a Hilton, the body of a mule, and the head of an idiot. The only reason why people want him is because he hits like Aaron. He is being billed as a 3b, but we all know his future, more likely recent future, is tied to the right side of the diamond or at DH. And with his body continuing to widen as he ages, he is a good bet to have a lot of injuries earlier than most. Plus, now that the Marlins have both the sox and yankees bidding as well as a host of other teams more willing to deal than pay ARods ridiculous requests, the bidding will be crazy. I'd just as soon sit this one out and go from here with what we have than rape our farm and our current MLB rotation for a player who doesnt seem to want it.
  2. The sox have one of the best closers in the game. Gagne wants to close. He showed enough stuff to prove he can pitch, and he stayed healthy. Someone will pay up and Boras knows this. I have a feeling a team like Philly would take a shot and move Myers back to the rotation.

  4. The HWL is for prospects who didnt play in the upper levels if I remember correctly. Either way, Joba and Kennedy dominated the HWL last season, and look where they are now. At the same time, the HWL is considered a pitchers league, so it is more impressive what AJ is doing.
  5. Hansen is having surgery for sleep apnea. That is an interesting choice as a palatouvuloplasty is typically not terribly effective, but its worth a shot I guess.
  6. http://www.nj.com/sports/ledger/index.ssf?/base/sports-2/1193809256226530.xml&coll=1 Sounds like the meeting went well. They are currently negotiating, but it looks like Mo is gonna stay put.
  7. 3 more hits and 2 triples yesterday.
  8. Its official. 3yrs 14.5mil http://www.nypost.com/seven/10312007/sports/yankees/joe_goes_hollywood.htm
  9. lol, you said you'd win the WS with ARod.
  10. he lost that weight prior to this season and broke out.
  11. I answered a question about who is most likely to be moved. Nothing solid, but there have certainly been speculations.
  12. the NL is hapless and pathetic. Thats point A. Dodger fans are hapless and pathetic. That is point B. Dodger fans are the only ones who stick around for 4 innings of a close baseball game. That is point C.
  13. Santana will be moved most likely.
  14. I dont see him staying on the East Coast. Here is a lowdown. The sox will be in on it early, hoping that the prediction holds true, that he is opting out and end up getting less. Once Boras makes it clear that the bidding has reached 30 mil, Theo will back out. The Mets will make a lucrative offer to move him back to SS (which moves Reyes to 2b OR to the Twins in a package for Santana). Boras will use this offer to try and land a bigger offer elsewhere, as ARod knows that he is not a safe man in NY, with the Mets or the Yankees. In the end, I see the Giants making a BIG run at him now that Bonds is off the payroll, but my money is on LA. They need a big slugger. They have deep pockets. And LA is kinda like NY but wicked gay. So he'd be good there.
  15. Schilling is putting Theo in a bind right now. I think we all know that management wants to work these kids in, but we all know that sox fans want Schilling back. And knowledgeable sox fans want him back on a short term deal. He is saying everything that the fans want right now and it will make Theo look like the bad guy if he walks. Then again, how bad is Theo, you just won your 2nd title.
  16. also, saying Masterson will be a starter is a stretch as well. He has setup man written all over him.
  17. his performance may suffer, or it may get better. We dont know. I am just saying that given a full season, this guy is capable of lots of power (and K's). 25 homers is a plausible scenario based upon that.
  18. If you project out his overall numbers from this past season to a 600AB season, he would have hit (theoretically) 35 homers. 14HR in 240AB. The yr before that (9 in 174) projects out to 31. The yr before that (9 in 199) projects out to 27. So no, I am not pulling anything out of my ass here.
  19. Haren is under contract for a few more yrs. He has a contract that takes him through 09 with a team option of 6.7mil for '10. The A's wont move him unless they are absolutely and totally blown away.
  20. I think we can trump that if we wanted to.
  21. Santana and Peavy in front of Wang, Hughes and Joba would be just wrong.
  22. You figure that we have 82 million coming off the books after 2008 (if you include Abreu's option and Pettitte's option). And with Clemens and ARod gone, that is another 45 mil gone right there for this yr. Now the 23 mil combined that Posada and Mo made will be in limbo since both may be back at higher prices. So we will have the cash to go after one of these guys, and boy does that 09 class look loaded. In terms of recovering the aggregate, if our pitching gets better, then our offensive loss will be felt less.
  23. Wake won 17 games this yr and has a renewable 4 mil option. Even though Wake is showing signs of breaking down, he still has the knuckler which will keep him as a streaky, off and on kind of pitcher capable of giving innings. Having him as your 5 is certainly not a detriment. To be honest with you, he is a safer bet than Schilling. And if you think he will continue to be this crafty, dominating pitcher as his mph drops, take a look over to NYC for an example of THAT. Mussina's stuff had declined since 03, but he adjusted from 04-06 putting up pretty good numbers and dazzling postseason numbers. But this yr, his fastball finally dipped to sitting around 86-87 and he couldnt get anybody out. His location didnt change. His curve and changeup were still good. But there is only so much you can take off your offspeed stuff before it loses its effectiveness. And if you dont slow down your offspeed stuff, then curve, change and fastball will all be the same speeds. I am telling you, Wake has a pitch that is a great equalizer that he wont lose. Schill on the other hand, is ready to fall off the slope. You just have to wonder if he'll do it next yr or the yr after. But its coming.
  24. Those numbers arent very good for AAA for an offense first player.
