  1. If the sox somehow dealt away Manny and they got Bay without having to give up anything else, then the sox would be f***ing ecstatic.
  2. Dealing Hermida and 2 of their top 5 prospects for a 2 month rental is a steep price, no matter who that player is. That being said, if they get Grabow and Hermida, they will take a serious hit to the offense, but the pen may be stabilized. It might be a better deal than anyone could have imagined. I am just unsure how good Grabow is gonna be as a setup man. He gives up his fair share of taters and righties seem to hit him pretty well for a setup man.
  3. America as a whole is getting wider and the seats in Fenway cannot accomodate your middle aged, overweight guy. It will be an issue within the next 20 yrs when america sees its biggest obesity crisis of all time
  4. I thought I was the only reactionary one when my team is leading a playoff race, lol. The sox, as currently constructed WILL make the playoffs. Did I really just say that? Well, yeah. The Rays have had an easy road this month, 2 games in NY notwithstanding and they managed to have a 7 game losing streak. Though they are over .500 in that span, we should expect the Rays to have had a better month. They will fold. I dont believe in the Twins, even though they are currently tied with the sox in the L column for the wild card either. SO barring a massive collapse the sox make it. But is making it all that awesome if you dont have a shot at winning it? As a fan of a team that has gone one and done from 05-07, NO it is not. Right now, the sox are not equipped to win the WS. The bullpen is so putrid that the starters need to get them through 7. And aside from Beckett, there isnt a starter in that staff that can do that with consistency. Now with the deadline looming, the sox in on the Ohman sweeps and Manny being talked about, things can change. I keep hearing Manny for prospects, Manny for Hermida, Manny for Burrell. I honestly think that the best move the sox can make is getting a solid, up and coming OFer while ALSO getting a solid setup man. You dont need to replace all of Manny's offense if you also limit the amount of late leads you give up. So a deal for Hermida isnt a bad idea, so long as you get a pen arm back. I dont see it happening out of FLA. We'll see, while the possibility still exists
  5. what would the point of dealing Burrell for Manny be? They are right about equal in terms of performance right now, while Burrell is younger and cheaper
  6. most likely. Bruney was much better than Farns early on. Also, Melancon becomes an option now that he's in AAA
  7. Farnsworth stepped in and was serviceable. He was by no means a sure thing or lights out. His WHIP was still near 1.4. And that is after he had 11 consecutive appearances with no runs allowed. With the acquisition of Marte who can setup, and the emergence of Veras and Ramirez, Farns became expendable.
  8. We traded Farnsworth for him, straight up.
  9. Pudge- .292/.338/.417 coming with the caveat of leadership and dirty defense. He and Molina will keep anyone from running on them.
  10. Per ESPN, details to follow http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3511535
  11. Bucky is lucky he'd only down 4. Vlad swinging out of his shoes at a ball on his shoetops really hurt the halos these. No worries though, we cannot beat Millar and the O's.
  12. the Braves would have wanted Youk, and youk is better than kotchmann. But why deal youk for Tex when Youk is under contract for awhile and is outperforming him right now
  13. Kotchman is better than anything the sox had to offer. Casey is a solid defensive 1b who is just starting to hit for power. He's 25 and under contract for awhile. AND, everyone knows this is a rental. The Braves would not allow a window for extension and with Boras around, you better believe he hits the market.
  14. no, just pointing something out
  15. 3 cheap hits and we are down again
  16. for Kasey Kotchmann and a MiLB pitcher
  17. Tabata is 5 yrs younger
  18. Molina is a MUCH better defensive catcher. It isnt even close
  19. I would assume that any Tex deal comes with the caveat of an extension
  20. The Abreu and Lidle deal took 23 mil off the books for the Phil.
  21. it would make sense though. You get beat in games that the other team just throttles you, but get a tight lead late and the game is over
  22. Isnt the pythag thrown off by dominant closers or dominant relievers? IIRC, the yankees always exceeded their pythag, and most of that was attributed to having the best closer in the game
  23. that was our chance to make this game closer prior to getting to your pen. This thing is over now. To work I go
