  1. The only way Lugo gets his job back is if Theo tells Tito that Lugo needs to play. Lowrie has better hands and a better stick. While Lugo brings more range and a bit better OBP, he cannot hit the ball into an alley to save his life. Also, this is just the beginning for Lowrie. While I think his defense will be akin to jeter's (limited range, but good hands and a good arm), he will more than make up for it with his lack of E's on routine plays and his developing gap power.
  2. He is vetoing the deal. No Giles in Boston
  3. banning Boras, while nice on the outside, would hurt every single big market club since he seems to favor them significantly. The Sox would take a serious hit. The Yankees would take a massive hit. Just take a look at all the Boras clients on the yankees and sox. Take a look at the recent yankee draft picks who have Boras as an agent. Its nutty.
  4. Manny not playing up to snuff. If they come to the conclusion that the agent told the player to tank so he can be dealt, then Boras could be suspended.
  5. I dont expect the sox to make this deal anyway. Lots of money for a guy who doesnt really fit
  6. and the mound was higher
  7. Who knows, they might want to send Ells back down for a couple weeks and give the CF job to Giles.
  8. and he will see that some of the higher velocity pitchers will break down. More torque = more velocity = more strain.
  9. but blocking menas taking on the entire contract and needing to free up a roster space if the Orioles said, take him. Blocking does not come without consequence. If the team that put the player on waivers says, you can have him, then you get the contract.
  10. the only thing I could think of that would make this a useful move is if Papi told management that his wrist just isnt up to par. And the stats would bear it out. Take a look at this.... .250/.327/.354/.681. Those are Papi's #s since returning from injury. That is 48 ABs. Only one homerun as well. And now he is talking about his wrist clicking. While it may be totally unrelated, we shall see. I could see a scenario where Theo called Papi into his office and asked him how he was feeling and how his wrist was holding up.
  11. Bradford is a streaky little bugger. He also is the type of guy who seems to have many off yrs mixed in with his good yrs. A long term deal for a guy like that is kinda pointless. He'd be a good 2 month rental, but owing a middle reliever 3.5 mil when they cannot get a lefty out is kinda pointless. I think the sox held back because of their experience with him in the past. He and Myers were on the team and they were essentially one batter relievers and nowadays, you need to have a pen that can go the full inning.
  12. we do baby pitchers, I agree. But the price could be huge if we rush this kid. Scenario for you Gom. Joba takes the ball, guides us to the postseason and we get knocked out by Anaheim. He then tries to pick up a ball in January, cannot, and is found to have a complete tear of his cuff. He has surgery, comes back in 2010 topping out at 95 and not 100 like he was. Was it worth it?
  13. this happens all the time. I am unsure why this is a newsworthy topic. The yankees actually claimed Huston Street 3 days or so ago. We werent dealing for him.
  14. most likely. Knowing our luck, Wang and Joba will make miraculous recoveries, make it back for the last 2 weeks and we'll make the playoffs. Then, with Joba, Wang, Pettitte and Moose manning the rotation, we'll get swept by the Angels. Just speculating on the "with our luck" type of s***.
  15. Wang was re-examined today by his doctor and they deemed him not ready to start throwing. He will remain in the boot for another week and be re-evaluated. His slow progress to this point has essentially ended his season unless the yankees make it deep into October.
  16. http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080806&content_id=3265682&vkey=news_nyy&fext=.jsp&c_id=nyy Brett Marshall, the Texas HSer who fell due to bonus demands has signed with the yankees. He was signed in the 6th round, but he received supplemental pick money (as well as being the highest paid 6th rounder ever). Marshall sits mid 90s as an 18 yr old and already has a plus slider.
  17. he is actually known for his conservative therapy, so that is not necessarily true. This is a bittersweet diagnosis. There isnt an obvious tear there, which is great. But in the setting of swelling, a small tear can be missed. To be honest with you, I dont have him start a throwing program in a week. I have the kid shut it down for the season. He successfully made the transition to the rotation and even though his innings will be down, the questions about his effectiveness in the rotation can officially be squashed. Next yr, I start him in the rotation and do what the Tigers did with Verlander and skip starts throughout the season.
  18. Agree. Unless I have a diagnosis to provide info on or a person to examine, my opinion is as good as yours.
