  1. And if the solution is to make the roster 30, adding roster spots increases payroll, which many teams will balk at.
  2. 2021 will hopefully be the last year of it's kind. 2022 can roll out the usual way. But every game they play without fans is a massive hit to the bottom line. If the goal is to fatten the wallet after a down 2020, then moving the season back to where fans can be present is their only option
  3. Yanks rumored to Taillon and Bell. First off, that would mean dealing Voit, which I am not opposed to. Bell had a hell of a 2019, then fell off in 2020. Hard to say if that is due to the shortened year or not, but it would be a risk. Also, Bell really should be a DH. He is one of the worst 1b's defensively in baseball. But he would balance out a RHH lineup and lefties in YS seem to shine. Taillon would be an intriguing guy to go after, seeing as he missed all of 2020. He is a power righty with good command, reasonable HR numbers and good but not elite K numbers. The issue for me is that he's only had one really healthy year (2018) where he threw over 190IP. He would enter 2021 fully healthy and ready to roll, but dealing a HR champion who is under control on the cheap for a definite downgrade at 1b and a hopeful #2 in the rotation with major question marks seems difficult for me to process. The Pirates want a motherlode for Taillon, but dealing 3 yrs of Voit might be an overpay. I am sure they would throw Bell in for mostly anyone since it's PIT, he is going into his second to last arb season and sucked ass in 2020
  4. If he is healthy, he should spend a fair amount of innings in the bigs. Of the guys lost, I am expecting this one back the least
  5. TV revenues clearly didnt support the Phillies and rumor has it the Yanks lost a s*** ton too. I'd pitch a 140 game season ending in late November. You could start the season June 1, play 28 games a month and by Nov 1, start the POs. Might be an issue in the cold weather spots, but these guys can play in the cold. If the players want to get closer to their full checks, they can add DHers back into the fray and maybe squeeze in an extra 10-15 games of pay throughout the 5 month season or end the season 10-15 days sooner to avoid blizzard time in Colorado, NY, Boston, and Minnesota On top of that, if the forecast dips below freezing, I would automatically bump the game from night time to the day
  6. Not sure if the owners really care if the players get vaccinated. It makes far more sense for the owners to have the fans vaccinated and get their butts in seats
  7. Chavis has a big year ahead. He was good as a rook, awful in a pandemic shortened season and is entering the year without a guaranteed spot. If he breaks out, then you’re golden. If he continues to struggle, he likely won’t stick around for 2022
  8. The guy is what he is. Branyan, Reynolds, Etc, those guys did end up having some good years. You can’t teach the power. In an offseason that will be dictated by value, this signing is a good play. He also won’t preclude you from finding a better option, but he’s not a bad fall back option if you miss out on a guy like Ozuna or Springer
  9. Smart signing. Low risk and if he rebounds to 2019 levels, then he’s golden. If he doesn’t, he’s easy to dump.
  10. As an Irishmen, I’m offended by Notre Dame and the Celtics. Not all of us look like leprechauns. Actually, no Irishman will ever be offended by this at all, ever, cause the name of a sports team has zero impact on our lives and we are a lot tougher than that!
  11. The Sox aren’t a “total yawn” as you’ve got no idea what team will take the field. If Bauer is in Sox red, ERod is back and the Sox sign a couple back end relievers, then you’re gonna be eating your words
  12. They’re creeping back towards their peak. This vaccine cannot come out soon enough. I just hope I don’t catch this thing before I get it!
  13. Until this craziness ends, yeah. I’m getting vaccinated this week. Let’s all get it and go to a game!
  14. Me neither. Travel is a necessary thing. A baseball game isn’t.
  15. But they also have to abide by state requirements. Gatherings bans have to be abided by. If the governor puts a caveat for those who are immunized then the parks can use that out as well.
  16. Also, ballparks are private entities. You cannot just waltz into one during business hours. They can set their own rules
  17. If the quarantine laws are relaxed for vaccinated people. We are going to be getting cards dated 2 weeks after your second dose. You may need to show proof of vaccination to break stay at home orders and gather until covid rates drop down to manageable levels
  18. Rolling the dice on the rotation is what we’ve done since CC became mortal in 2012. Hasn’t really worked out in our favor
  19. 20 million people will be vaccinated by Feb 1. 50 million by opening day at the least. Teams can consider vaccinated fans only.
  20. Still intrigued by the absolute lack of any rumor beyond speculation that DJ is the priority this offseason. While he’s the offensive straw that stirs the drink, pitching wins championships. We’ve got arguably the best pitcher in the game to start the rotation and a pretty solid 3-6, but unless someone from that group ascends to the 2 slot, we are gonna struggle again in the POs when Cole isn’t pitching. Montgomery is a solid 4-5 guy. German, when the rust is kicked off, is a solid 3. Garcia will likely begin the year as the 5, and maybe he ends up as a 2, but 2021 is essentially his rookie campaign. I sincerely hope Cashman isn’t putting all his eggs in the Severino basket. With TJS, setbacks happen. While his timeline suggests he should be fully recovered and back to normal (18 months) by the playoffs, you cannot count on that in December for a playoff bound team. I enjoyed Tanaka. He’s been really good in the playoffs. Maybe they want power rather than finesse?
  21. The Phillies are shedding payroll right now. This is the wrong move
  22. Had Whitlock not needed TJS, there’s a near certainty he’d have made our 40 man. He’s not your prototypical nowadays pitcher. He’s a sinker baller with good command capable of hitting 95. He’s been really effective as a starter, but he had a Ramiro Mendoza quality to him and likely path before him. With the Sox pitching staff held together with sticks and mud, it’s pretty likely that Whitlock is going to stay with the Sox all year barring injury or a lackluster return from TJS
  23. As per usual, 3 Yankee farmhands selected in the Rule V. The Yanks end up middling every season in the farm system ranking yet routinely have the most players selected
  24. Of course not. It’s just not forgivable
