  1. I honestly think that the AL is down and a team like the Yanks, holes and all, is a far more likely team to be the best of the bunch than really any other. It’s as much a nod to the Yanks as it is an indictment of the entire league
  2. The other thing that raises my concern is the adjustment to failure. Pro baseball is a different beast altogether. The guys entering the pros hit over .500 in high school, .350 in college, had ERA’s under 1 in high school 2.5 in college. None of them have experienced years of failures. They’ve all been the best and that’s translated into success. Part of learning how to be a pro ball player is learning from failure and embracing that they can fail. Many, many players fail to progress, not because they lack the physical gifts, but because the game is no longer fun when they have a season hitting .210. It will be very hard for her to relate to that. Being a great coach in the minors is more therapist, so maybe this is a heady move or maybe it burns in flames. Time will tell. I am hopeful for her success
  3. Lol, the Yanks right now are the odds on favorite for the ALE as currently constructed. Plus, the Yanks are expected to add to their team, where TB isn’t. TB has seen Morton and Snell move on with very little 2021 big league talent back. I don’t think you’re seeing what the Yanks are expecting to get back as enough to take the AL. Severino was a top 10 CY finisher before a lat strain then TJS sidelined him. He’s young and was chucking beebees before TJS. German won 18 games as well, and while rusty, doesn’t have a health concern. There’s talent in the rotation, lots of up and coming talent for the rotation in the high minors and a continued high level of talent in the pen. The offense needs DJ, but will replace Gardner easily with Frazier. I want the Yanks to add a pitcher and DJ, mostly because I was them to not get smoked if they get to the WS. Cleveland is expected to deal Lindor and are in the throes of purging payroll. The Twins are good, but are we ever gonna put them ahead of the Yanks when they’re not in the same division? The Astros are in payroll hell and will be without Verlander for 2021 and now are looking to be moving on from Brantley and Springer. I think the Yanks ranking is less “bias” and more the fact that the AL is down right now.
  4. Hammon is different. She played basketball, just against other women. Also, the female football coach is different as well. X’s and O’s are so cerebral and technical that you have a ton of coaches who never played doing well. Baseball is a different beast as coaching is involved in development, but the X’s and O’s Matter little. Also, the game isnt even offered to women. Women typically play softball where the mechanics of hitting and pitching are different than baseball. When it’s a game that isn’t even offered to women to play, it does make it hard to relate. This seems to be an experiment. Maybe it works. Maybe she has a keen eye and becomes something more. I’ll be intrigued to see her progress. She will be held to a higher standard whether she likes it or not. I, for one, will be hoping she succeeds
  5. Absolutely the Yanks will be a contender. We are incomplete as is, but definitely a contender.
  6. I doubt we lose Lemahieu. We also add German and some production from Severino
  7. As currently constituted, I think the sox are a last place team.
  8. Unless Henry authorizes a ridiculous amount of spending, you’ll be eliminated pretty early on. And to be honest, I’d love it if he did. I would love Henry to get impatient and push Bloom to alter a badly needed rebuild into a hastily built short term contender with underwater contracts
  9. https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/red-sox/chaim-blooms-comments-why-red-sox-passed-blake-snell-are-telling?fbclid=IwAR1dw53nzrHKvhIQaNJtT8Lvqml7kTyqtEeqauhKOl_HnY3N0sAk7FFFq3o This should give you some insight into Bloom’s thinking
  10. What month of elimination entails “contender?”
  11. Torres has an extra year of control!
  12. 2021 is a season of flux. You’ve got to see what you have in Beni after a horrible 2020. Does JDM rebound? ERod is coming off heart inflammation, and after what happened to the Florida basketball player, I’m sure they’re gonna be handling him with kid gloves. Plus, you only have a year of control for him. Sale is gonna start the year on the IL and likely won’t be himself again (if himself still exists) until September. There is zero point in investing heavily in 2021 with so much in the air on an otherwise terrible team.
  13. The Sox aren’t in a position to contend yet. Dealing off your limited farm resources does you no good at this point. SD is doing what they’re doing because they have an absolutely stacked farm system, have only one true underwater contract (Hosmer), AND have a stacked big league club.
  14. I never said he was underpriced, although he is. He is an effective 5 inning pitcher who fits with what the Rays are looking for. He will be a loss for them and the gains they made in this trade will likely not be bearing fruit for a couple years
  15. Not true at all. I just do not think a site that values Torres less than Castillo (far less in fact) is worth it's salt at all
  16. That site is suspect at best and useless at worst. 3 years of fragile Snell, the pen killer for that haul will end up being much, much better for the Rays in the long term. But it closes their short term window. With Morton and now Snell gone, that rotation has two massive holes in it. Chirinos should return around the ASB, filling one hole, but they’ll need someone to step up and fill the other
  17. In this current climate, no team is taking JDM for $8-$9 mil. Every team is in cost cutting mode and nobody wants a guy who doesnt play a defensive position, who is either entering his down phase or is unable to adjust to the new video rules. JDM is entirely untradeable
  18. The Padres have an insane amount of talent in their farm, so this doesnt hurt them a ton, although it is absolutely an overpay. They do get to keep Gore, who likely starts 2021 as their #5.
  19. Not sure of that. MLB really should consider either shortening the season, compressing the season or shifting the season. No way we should start around April 1. May 1 is the smarter play
  20. What a deal for the Rays and strangely, I like this deal for the Yanks in 2021. I think the Padres got ripped off here. Snell is a dominant pitcher, when he throws. He had a full 2018, missed 9 starts in 2019 and last year, didn’t average 5 IP per start. He’s never averaged 6IP per start. His FIP’s have risen the past two years from his CY season. TB treated him with kid gloves and now he’s gonna head to SD where he’ll pair with Lamet and Paddock in 21 and add Clevenger in for 22. He will need to actually figure out how to throw more innings, although I’m sure SD won’t disallow Snell from facing the lineup a third time through. For the Rays, their haul is mostly for tomorrow, but it’s enormous. Mejia is the only now piece and he’s a reclamation project to a degree. He only has 364 PAs in the bigs and in 2019, he was decent offensively catching half the games. He’s got a rocket for an arm, elite bat to ball skills and age and control on his side (25 yr and controlled through 2025). The majors questions are on the defensive side was a lack of “aptitude”. That’s code for, he’s a dummy. TB has a history of turning these kinds of players into big league assets. Patino is the top prospect here. He didn’t fare well in relief this year, but only pitched in High A for a minute before 2020. He’s likely ticketed for AA or AAA out the gate, but he’s a top 10 level prospect with a high octane arm, a deep arsenal, and the means to control it. He’s a dangerous pitcher long term. Blake Hunt is a long term catching piece. He’s considered a top 100 prospect already who’s got the defensive chops to stick, but has the offensive chops to potentially be a long term all star level catcher. Cole Wilcox closes it out as a third round draftee from the 2020 draft, but was considered a mid first round talent. He signed for over $3mil and has a high 90s heater with a plus slider and change up. This is an absolute haul for Snell, who’s been effective when on the mound, injury prone at times and handled with kid gloves. While this weakens the Rays in 2021, a year they could have really made some noise, it does follow the mantra of value over windows or timing and should make them more difficult to deal with in years going forward
  21. Another baseball hall of famer is claimed by 2020. RIP
  22. And it makes sense too
  23. I’m sure he does and I hope he’s cured. But stage 3 colon cancer has a 40% cure rate and is absolutely notorious for coming back after remission is achieved. Have a friend who just died at 42 of it and he battled it for 5 years. I hope he lives a full life, for sure, but the odds are against him that it’s behind him and hence, he’s got zero trade value
  24. There hasn’t been a lot of success with Asian pitchers translating to the bigs. No big ones since Darvish and Tanaka. Interestingly, there have been more American pitchers going abroad and coming back effective than Asian pitchers coming over.
  25. Mancini may not survive to the end of the contract. Mancini is untradeable entirely.
