  1. he's in his first full pro season. He's now in A advanced. Seriously, you are just unbearably homeriffic
  2. Good day today, even though we lost one and could very well lose another today.
  3. Vazquez still with FB 88-91, but he is locating it much better today.
  4. He's in his first full yr as a pro. It isnt like he's been languishing in the low levels as a veteran minor leaguer. Seriously Dutchy, you rag on us Yankee fans for being homers, but you might want to look at yourself. That being said, I think his career is as a closer type. He throws 2 plus pitches and his change is pretty far off.
  5. Graham Stoneburner, a 2009 draftee out of Clemson, was promoted from Charleston to Tampa today. Stoneburner has started 7 games. 39IP 24H 9ER 10BB 44K for a WHIP of 0.95 and a 2.08ERA. He's been nothing short of amazing thus far. Going down is Jairo Heredia, who has absolutely fallen apart since returning from a shoulder injury
  6. The pitcher will have a problem with it, absolutely. The other manager will probably defend his pitcher. But, let them whine and cry.
  7. Ben Davis did it in 2001 against Schilling and succeeded, and he didnt have a target on his helmet. If the game is close, you do whatever you can to get on base and WIN. That is the most important thing. It may be cheap, but if it starts a rally and you win the game, then everything is peachy. In a 10-0 game, you'd probably not want to do that, cause your buddy on deck is gonna get one in the ribs
  8. The sox are starting to revert back to baseline dominance at home. That being said, dominating the Jays at home is no huge feat.
  9. Yep. Thames has convulsions when he faces righties for some reason. Miranda, interestingly enough, sucked vs lefties until last yr, when he hit them better than righties. Regardless, he'll add some left handed thunder to a lineup missing 2 starting left handed bats
  10. http://www.diarioelprogreso.com/edi-060510/html/pag13-a.htm Yankees sign Venezuelan catcher Rainer Coa. Apparently showed a good stick in INTL play but shows promise defensively. He'll probably start in the DSL immediately
  11. Yeah, pay him more than what the Cardinals did
  12. How did you make that step?
  13. Gardner has taken the next step in becoming a potential top of the order threat. He has always had great speed and a great eye. His problem was, that his swing was meant for someone 6'2" 230 instead of a 5 foot nothing 100 nothing scrawny speedster. Long worked with him pretty extensively over the offseason to get him to slap the ball more. And he has, to the tune of >50% groundballs. For him, that means hits. Add to that the new cut down swing, he is now fouling pitches off that he would miss last yr. This means that he is sacrificing power (what little he has) for singles, walks and becoming an all around pain in the ass at the dish. Cervelli is also taking the next step. He has started to show his advanced plate approach that got him notoriety in the minors, but he is also cutting down on the K's. He will never be a 20 homer catcher. But he is a guy who will battle the hell out of you and then walk his fair share plus play elite defense at the catchers position. Those two guys have stemmed the tide of the underproduction and injury throughout the lineup. Now that Tex and ARod are hitting, this lineup should be fun to watch
  14. They wont have room for Crawford if Gardner continues to show he belongs. And no, I dont think he's gonna hit .350 for the season. This article isnt full of half truths or lies. It shows that defense is OVER-valued. Defense is important. But there is a point where you need to score more runs on offense and prevent more runs with pitching. I have always put offense and pitching 1-2 with defense being a distant 3rd. And, defense at specific positions should be considered a boon. LF defense? Really, is that something that should be important, assuming said player can hit 30 bombs and have an OPS near .900? Defense at 3b is also highly overvalued, unless you are a Brooks Robinson type player who can make all spectacular and routine plays, then your defense is going to be significantly outweighed by your offense. I have said it all along, defense UP THE MIDDLE is the most important aspect of a team's defense. The recent surge to have every 3b and LFer be dominant defensive forces will self correct in a few yrs. Until then, I will enjoy the ride
  15. Down goes another Yankee. It is really amazing that we are 22-8 with all the injuries and inconsistency. Grandy is set to miss 5-6 weeks Johnson is out at least 2 weeks and probably closer to a month We've been without Posada for about a weeks worth of time. Aceves just got back out there and he's back being laid up. Park's been DL'd for 3 weeks now Pettitte is gonna miss a start Vazquez has been a big suckfest And ARod and Tex did next to nothing in April It is a testament to great starting pitching, a good offensive approach and lights out end of the bullpen arms. Get a QS, work the opposing pitcher out of the game early by riding up his pitch count. Take the lead in the middle innings and make is stand up with a SU-CL combo that is the best in the game. Sitting pretty here waiting for the Ray regression.
  16. Actually, things can get MUCH worse. You figure the sox are playing incredibly inconsistent baseball. Well, they play NY or TB 6 times over the next 17 games, with 5 of those on the road. Mixed into those same 17 games are 3 roadies vs Detroit and Philly and a 2 game home set vs the Twins. If the sox continue to play disjointed ball for the next few weeks, they could be 15 games out and at that point, it would be over
  17. Really? Stupid decisions? He's been the beneficiary of 3 calls in Boston that every other team's scorer calls an error. Dipre, he is throwing wildly, his hands are not as good as advertised and he makes boneheaded decisions. He's got the tools to turn it around, but he has absolutely 1000% sucked in the field, and defending his current defensive performance just makes you look bad
  18. this guy is awesome
  19. WHY ARE YOU SENDING HIM HOME WITH 0 OUTS!!
  20. Is it, or it is not a smirk?
