  1. Pedro could retire after this year and probably go into the Hall of Fame and live happily ever after with his family.
  2. This isn't all that surprising considering that last year Bay batted .306 with 32 HR's and 101 RBI's. He is a great player, and certainly one that the Pirates won't consider trading.
  3. I said it before, I want a Heat-Suns series now. I just think it'd be more exciting.
  4. Okay, we're full. This is the routine that is going to happen each time. Beginning in the year 1936, players will be nominated each year as they would in the regular Hall of Fame. Each member of the panel will nominate ten players they feel should be placed unto the ballot for that year. The rule is this: The player must've been retired for at least five years prior to the year we are in. After each member has nominated their ten players, a ballot will be posted with each player and their career stats. From that, each member will vote for the players they feel deserve to be in the Hall of Fame. When a player aquires 70% of the vote, they will be inducted. The players who were not inducted are eligible to be nominated for up to three ballots. After three ballots, no more nominations for that player will be allowed. The first ballot will consist of players before 1936, meaning they must have retired in 1931 or earlier. Members of the panel, please send me your nominations!
  5. Jeter is thirty-two, so if he plays until he is thirty-eight, we'll say.. He'll need to average about 167 hits a season. So far in his career he has averaged 206 a season. I think he could go it.
  6. 12-game hitting streak for 'em. Ortiz sacrifice fly, 1-0.
  7. Hall of Fame Inductees TBA

He allows us more depth at guard and lets West come off as both a PG and SG.
  9. Of course I do. Cool to see you here.
  10. I guess against a man who has struggled so much against the Sox that we can afford to take Manny's bat out of the lineup tonight. I'm assuming Snow'll be at first then. Youk, Loretta, Ortiz, Nixon, Varitek, Lowell, Pena, Snow, Gonzalez?
  11. Wang got through eleven batters then gave up a hit.
  12. Wang has held the Royals hitless through three.
  13. Maybe Schilling will strike out twenty tonight.
  14. TalkSox Baseball Hall of Fame Panel: 1: rbreg7 2: Moose 3: CrespoBlows 4: a700hitter 5: thewarriorscode12 6: ahhchon 7: Optimist 8: soxfan#1 9: yankeessuck013 10: Reserves (in order, if a vote is not registered they will be asked for their assistance):
  15. Hello and welcome to the TalkSox Hall of Fame. I would like to explain what will happen in this thread, and I hope that you all enjoy contributing to this thread. They way this will work is relatively easy. We will have a panel of however many judges feel that they can be active (probably capped at around twelve), and then a class from each year of baseball will be brought to be voted upon. The entrants that gain a majority vote of 70% (9/12) or more will be added. I think this will be a interesting topic as we can discuss the achievements of many players throughout the history of baseball. If you would like to be on the Hall of Fame panel, please PM me with an AIM or e-mail address if possible.
  16. I think you guys need to give the guy a break. He's a great guy and probably as tough as they come. He dealt with a lot while he was playing, even having to carry a gun due to death threats he experianced in his younger days. The man honestly felt bad for having to take out a catcher that gave his heart and soul to him. The man is a stand up guy, a man I'd like to play for.
  17. Or this one: http://cache.boston.com/images/bostondirtdogs//Headline_Archives/varitek_ap.jpg
  18. Baseball Reference had him in right for one year and left for the remaining.
  19. Yankees that would: Jeter, Bernie, Matsui, and Rivera Red Sox that would: Wakefield, Varitek, Ortiz, and Nixon
  20. Williams was obviously one of the greatest hitters of all-time and one of the best people in baseball. I choose Rice over him in leftfield to switch it up a little as well as to show my opinion that Rice deserves a lot more credit then he gets. Oh, and by the way, Yaz never played second base in his career. He was a outfielder, first basemen, and DH. A few games (33) at third, but never at second. Not meaning to correct you, just making sure that you get the best lineup you want in there.
  21. Congrats to Derek Jeter, he really has been a class player his whole career.
  22. Thanks for the welcome guys! I hope we can get some good discussions going.
  23. I am curious to how you guys would put together the All-Time Sox team? I think that mind would go something like this: C: Carlton Fisk 1B: Jimmie Foxx 2B: Bobby Doerr 3B: Wade Boggs SS: Nomar Garciaparra LF: Jim Rice CF: Dom DiMaggio RF: Dwight Evans DH: Carl Yastrzemski SP: Cy Young SP: Roger Clemens SP: Pedro Martinez SP: Luis Tiant SP: Dennis Eckersley CL: Sparky Lyle
  24. Brad Radke's stats in Fenway Park, year-by year. 2001: 1-0, 7 IP, 3.86 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, .296 BAA 2004: 1-0, 6.2 IP, 4.05 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, .286 BAA 2005: 0-0, 7 IP, 3.86 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, .240 BAA A very small sample size, but not bad numbers in three starts.
  25. I called it! Well, enough gloating. I, along with a lot of people, called the fact that Webb was going to have a Cy Young season this year. Hopefully he can keep it up, it's always exciting to see a young guy do so well.
