  1. That is classic. By the way, can we like merge all of these threads into "Thumper's Personal Baseball Questions" or somethin.
  2. Sorry, this may be OCD, but can we stick with Sox instead of Soxs. Other than that, welcome to the site.
  3. I get it, but I don't see how anything has changed since he signed the contract.
  4. He definitely should be remembered as a leading player in winning the Sox the World Series. I just wonder what he did to his elbow that he suddenly has to retire like that. Soreness doesn't explain it to me.
  5. How on earth can this be viewed as bad. This is like getting rid of rudy seanez all over again
  6. I completely agree with your point HeadofSoxnation, I want in.
  7. Yeah, next time just include something to discuss, this board is for discussion of baseball, not mindless rooting.
  8. I assume you mean tossed in the garbage by Toronto, and that is because he had become an outfielder or DH, which they had filled. I think he is a perfectly decent bench player. He was by no means negative for the Sox last season.
  9. I think Pedro is a no-brainer. His number has to be retired. Ortiz seems to be moving to that category as well. Manny's legacy largely depends on if, when and how he leaves the Sox. As of right now, though, I'd say both Pedro and Ortiz will have their numbers retired, a World Series can change some rules.
  10. he does have the walk problem, but I think that is easier to fix than having mediocre stuff
  11. I just have two things to add. I personally think Manny Delcarmen has the better stuff and will win the closer job as opposed to Piniero. Also, I hope now that a clear 1-2 has been established, the Sox will think about putting Youkilis in the 9 spot as a strategy that would help set the table in every inning but the first.
  12. i played second base and shortstop and hit leadoff
  13. My official pick is Bears 27 Colts 19 MVP: Lance Briggs
  14. two weeks until pitchers and catchers report
  15. so are you currently tied to an organization or are you looking for a team to play for?
  16. I feel the same way. Manny D is more valuable to me than Hansen.
  17. Ronnie Belliard and Shannon Stewart are good players in my opinion, any idea where they are headed, I'm not talking about the Red Sox signing them, they just jumped out as better players.
  18. if youk or lowell is going, the Sox should no doubt prefer to trade Lowell. Youk is not a top notch player by any means, but he is a solid and dependable player on defense and offense, plays more than one position and is flexible on his placement in the lineup, he is much more valuable than Lowell for years to come.
  19. I don't know about trading Hansen and Delcarmen. One of them would probably be ok, plus one of the Bs and some other pitcher, if we can convince them. I think getting rid of both Hansen and Delcarmen handicaps us in a bigger need than the one for Helton, closer. One of those guys will likely be the guy by midseason. If I had to choose, I would keep Manny D.
  20. I'm kind of interested in Kerry Robinson. From what I've heard he failed in St. Louis in large part because he did not fit with Tony LaRussa
  21. taking Smardzija is a risk I dont want to take. I agree with Schillingouttheks, Posluszny is a great pick if he's there, and it appears he could be. Now if Ginn dropped to the Pats, that would be my pick, but I don't realistically think he will.
  22. I voted for Bard, because when it is all said and done, he seems certain to have the best career, but between Buchholz and Bowden, I would take Bowden because he is a pure pitcher who has multiple pitches, while Buchholz is a converted outfielder with an arm.
  23. to quote Vince Lombardi: "What the hell's goin on out here?" Welcome to Talksox, it just seems like we are receiving some unconventional new members.
  24. I honestly think this is a terrific deal for the Braves. I was not aware Adam LaRoche was an elite slugger. He is an above average home run hitter who rarely offers any hustle plays and does not seem to fit the Braves mold. They get a closer, and a fairly good one at that. Great deal for the Braves. Scott Thorman should be ready soon to at least somewhat fill the not so gaping hole left by LaRoche.
