  1. Yeah and it won't happen. Just saying that's what I'd do.
  2. Well there's this article from a couple weeks ago that says the Yankees were preparing to make Sheets a 2x13 offer (before signing CC and A.J.): http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/2008/12/08/2008-12-08_yankees_brewin_up_multiyear_offer_for_fr-2.html And then there's this article from last week that says the Yankees do not want anything to do with Sheets: http://blogs.nypost.com/sports/st/archives/2008/12/3_up_sheets_tei.html I think Sheets would want more than a 10MM base salary with incentives. I think the 2x13 referenced in the first article is much more realistic, with 2-4MM in incentives. But that's just IMO.
  3. He was rumored to be getting 2x15, not sure if 1x10 is blowing him away.
  4. He's their starting CF.
  5. Reasoning/link? I don't see how this is obvious.
  6. Why? He's one of the best bargains in baseball at 4MM AAV. Sure, he isn't a sexy pitcher but last year he had a 4.13 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP, and he's pretty damn consistent. If you have him as a #5 and avoid him in the playoffs, even better.
  7. Uhh how do you know this? If I am the Yankees, I put Hughes as the #5. He doesn't have as big of a load to shoulder as 2008, and it's way too early to give up on him. He sucked massive dick against lefties, but he's supposedly working on a cutter to solve that.
  8. Willy Taveras to the Reds for two years, $ unknown. http://www.daytondailynews.com/blogs/content/shared-gen/blogs/dayton/cincinnatireds/entries/2008/12/27/reds_sign_willie_taveras.html
  9. I'm all in favor of an incentive-laden deal for Smoltz. Sheets would take a lot more, and a multi year deal. Plus, I doubt either of them replaces Wakefield; he's our #4 right now and should stay in the rotation.
  10. I'm not sold on Sheets either. The K/BB rate has gone down a lot, which a category he used to dominate. That and of course the injuries.
  11. Where would the new Fenway go? Would they go the YS route and build it in the parking lot area near Fenway (is there even room?), then tear down current Fenway? If they don't do that, there's really nowhere near the current park to build. They could do what McCourt wanted and build near the Convention Center, or go the Patriots' route and build it in the suburbs. Yuck.
  12. Yeah that was kind of expected. Does that make the rotation: Lincecum, Cain, Johnson, Zito, Sanchez? Does Lowry replace either Zito or Sanchez?
  13. Every time I make a Minor Moves thread, the Yankees sign CC, AJ and Tex. *Cue Twilight Zone music*
  14. I don't like that idea. If you're going to get a new stadium, play all the games there. Keep Fenway as a memorial, but move the baseball to Fenway II.
  15. I disagree. If it's only a one year contract, age isn't very important. Smoltz's numbers are better than Penny, over his career and over the past few years.
  16. That, and "CC" and "Sabathia" are the same person. Unless you count 6'7" 250 lb as two men. Which you may.
  17. Who can spot the errors in this list!? Aaaaaaand go.
  18. But then you have to give up an insane quantity/quality of prospects and spend a ton of money. Though obviously we don't know what the situation will be at that point.
  19. If he went on the market right now, he gets 30+ easily, and I think the Sox are in on it. However, when he hits FA after 2011 (he has a 2011 club option which should be exercised), he will be going into his age 32 season. Not very old, but probably hitting the down swing. While the market may change at that point, I'm not so sure if he gets 30 in 2011-12. Plus, he has three seasons to change his value.
  20. They're both good fielders, but yeah I guess one could DH.
