  1. Awww, c'mon Riv, that's a cop out....certainly you can pull something out of yer ass, no?
  2. Is it just me or does anyone else not care in the slightest if any of these guys ever make it?
  3. Jacko's decent points I referred to are the stats...in other words yeah, you could use them to draw the conclusion that the Sox 'O' is not as potent. My point though is that the moves made this offseason illustrate the FO's willingness to take an offensive hit (potentially) in exchange for 'D' and pitching...as you've said, pitching wins titles. The greater issue is that Yankee fans don't understand the concept of compromise or trade-offs in that the Yankees have the resources to go after the best of EVERYTHING, as opposed to other organizations that may have to sacrifice one aspect of the team to improve upon another and stay within a fiscal framework that is consistent with ownership's resources and/or goals.
  4. There are some solid points above. The Sox essentially shifted $ to starting pitching (Lackey), hopefully improving their 'D' but with a willingness to take a hit offensively. It appears to me that the Red Sox FO identified a payroll level that they could live with, took into account the benefit of not signing position players to LT contracts (Bay, Holliday, etc) and added a very good starting pitcher ...all in hopes of competing this year while not totally breaking the bank or mortgaging the future. I realize it is difficult for most Yankee fans to understand this philosophy so I can't really jump all over Jacko for his comments...they're simply the product of being a fan of an organization that operates under an entirely different philosophy than the Red Sox...and any other MLB team for that matter.
  5. Good enough for a wild card berth.
  6. couldn't agree more with the statement above...you are hoping and praying that Beltre performs at 2009 levels and that the signing turns out to be a poor one. I have real concerns about what he'll bring to the table, but let's face it...Lowell is NOT viable as Sox starting 3B, AND it's a 1 yr deal...given the FO goals and, to a large extent, self-imposed constraints, the deal kinda makes sense.
  7. Fenway Park is a s*** hole...nostalgic, yes, uniquem no doubt, but in terms of watching a baseball game it blows. Love going to Boston for a game, love the atmosphere and all, but it's a crappy set up. If they ever need someone to press the button that implodes the place I'll do it gladly.
  8. 1st Base Bugs Bunny 2nd Base Bugs Bunny 3rd Base Bugs Bunny etc.
  9. GOM...stirrin' that pot. Atta boy.
  10. terrible? not sure about that. unimpressive? absolutely.
  11. I was at the Quinny -Harvard game, Quinnipiac dominated Donato's gang....bad. Quinnipiac looks really good, but Pecknold himself admits he's a bit surprised by the record. Most predicitons had QUinnipiac at the middle or back of the ECAC pack. This freshman class for my alma mater could turn out to be very, very good.
  12. Or how about: - fist one up the middle? - drill one into his power alley? - drop one in his gap?
  13. Pssst....the answer is Earth.
  14. Yes, commendable work by the Jacks, but I gotta break his stones anyway.
  15. This is a very exciting thread...awe inspiring even. I can't way to see what is posted next.
  16. Kessel's departure, I think, was reflective of the front office's belief that the Bruins overachieved last year and weren't likely to be a Cup finalist this year either...I'm of the mind that they're looking a few years down the road. The way this team is playing, Kessel being in the mix wouldn't make all that much difference I don't think, although the Savard and Lucic injuries clearly sapped that B's offensive depth and perhaps. With them playing, Krejci, Ryder, Sturm et al might find more favorable matchups which they can exploit.
  17. my team blows Last year I got Brodeur with my #1 pick and Lundquist with my #3. This year I had #1 overall and took Ovechkin...how could I not, right? Screw that, by the time I picked again (#23 overall pick) the best goalie available was Cam Ward and before going on the IR he fkn sucked. Hiller? Sucks. Dan Ellis? Sucks and does not play. Hey, anyone wanna dump their #1 goalie?
  18. Yanks...if I am not mistaken: highest paid 1B of all time highest paid SS of all time highest paid 3b of all time highest paid P of all time highest paid C of all time When they put their line-up on the field, 5/9ths of their players are the highest paid at their position...EVER. Sox never had a chance with Tiexiera if he was going for the biggest contract he could get.
  19. I keep forgetting to update my line-ups...Ovechkin and Backstrom have ridden the pine for me twice this week I think.
  20. True, but equally disgusting were the 2 strike calls on him....could these umps be much worse?
  21. then don't watch, cuz it's gonna happen, it's the only way they can get AGay Burnett not to blow a load in someone's face instead.
