  1. Let's*, next*, year*, who*, won't*, off-season*. This game isn't on Tavarez. It's the three people who pitched ahead of him that s*** the bed. (Mainly Delcarmen and Timlin)
  2. I hope you didn't hurt yourself jumping off the bridge. Seriously, two games back with 52 games left, you'd think we blew the 7th game of the World Series in this game thread. Bunch of pessimists, the majority of you.If the Sox sweep KC, they pick up ground on either the White Sox or Yankees. There's plenty of season left. Just sit back and take it a day at a time. Absolutely no reason to panic yet. We'll know more after the 5 game series later in the month anyway.
  3. Tough loss. Sweep KC and things will feel rosy again.
  4. To troll? Seriously, it's all you f***ing do. Shut the f*** up, asswipe.
  5. Speaking of which, nice AB and good result. Leadoff double.
  6. Works for me, 1-0 Sox. edit - Yanks lose, 5-0. Loewen, Williams and Hawkins on a combined one-hitter. ROFL.
  7. DP!!
  8. Thanks, Georgie.
  9. Change pitchers you asshats.
  10. Now would be a most excellent time.
  11. Thanks. Send him out for the 7th on a short leash. edit - Tejada continues to rake.
  12. All you could ask out of Loewen, 6 shutout. What's his PC?
  13. And that one little homerun he hit.
  14. Anyone realize they'd be more likely to ask for Pena? They already have a Crisp-type CF in Willy Taveras.
  15. Wells won 15 games last year and was arguably their best pitcher in the second half last season. Your sig sucks.
  16. Hey, it's pretty much the same deal for Smoltz, only with Coco ( a proven MLB talent) instead of Murphy (a minor leaguer)! Makes perfect sense!! :thumbdown
  17. So, basically you want to open two holes after you plug one. I agree, getting Oswalt would have been a coup, but then we'd be left of a bullpen of the EZ brothers, Timlin, and JVB. Not the strongest of pens. You are also not addressing the 4th and 5th starter issues as you repla ce your #3 with Oswalt. So we're looking at 2.5 studs in the rotation (depending on what Beckett gives you), white flag 4th and 5th starters, and a schmuck pen. I think you can make the case we're better off not having made that move. I'd love to have Oswalt on the team, though, and for any combo of two or three porspects not named Lester. I really doubt they'd want Crisp. They'd be more likely to ask for Pena.
  18.
  19. This post does not compute. Too logical. /a700hitter
  20. Honestly, they were all on the decline on the way out. Pedro didn't get his 4th year, he walked. Wise move, IMO. He wasn't pitching in Spetmember last year, so he wouldn't have made a difference. He's topping out at 86-88 now on his fastball. Think he'd last in the AL East? Lowe had a mid 5.00 ERA in '04. He pitched great in the playoffs, sure, but he pretty much sucked for the entire season. Did you forget the significant dropoff Damon had at the end of last year? And it's not like he got screwed over on the money either. He got offered $3 mil a year less. For him, I can't imagine that it made that big of a difference financially. And again, it was HIS decision to walk, not the FO's. I don't have to remind you that Clement was an All Star last year, or that Wells won 15 games and was arguably our best second half pitcher, do I? Clement/Wells won a similar amount of games for less money than Pedro/Lowe did. I will admit that I didn't really like the Tavarez or Seanez signings, but no one's perfect, and Theo's never built a good bullpen. We all have our weaknesses.
  21. It really is. the site is amazing.
  22. You complain that they have a $120 million dollar payroll, yet if they didn't spend that much (and still remain under the luxury tax) you'd complain that they were pocketing the money and are greedy. It's unbelievable. They have more resources than any other team in the league besides the Yankees, but they are doing it in a more responsible way, IMO. They are remaining competitive while becomeing more financially responsible. They've done a nice job rebuilding the farm system. You've said it yourself that there are no guarantees for success in the future with the prospects we have, but then again there's no guarantee of success in the present if we ship those prospects for rentals. You're telling me two months of Smoltz is better than 6 years of Lester, when the odds of winning the WS would be about the same? Even if they were the "odds on favorite" to win, there's nothing guaranteed. It seems you want to hold 2004 in some sort of vacuum and not let go. Face it, the Red Sox will be better off for having let Pedro/Damon/Lowe etc. walk instead of tying them up to huge contracts and haveing to pay for their decline.
  23. It always comes down to money. That extra $75 million comes in handy when you need to buy players from other teams rather than trading them.
