    Cano is a statue and Jeter is the most overrated defensive player in the game. That being said, I don't think the discrepancy is as big as most would believe. It think it's pretty close, actually.

    Aside from his bullpen usage, I really have no complaints about the way Francona manages. He handles the pressure from the media well. He has a good relationship with his players. His lineups (for the most part) make sense, although i wish he didn't hit Tek 6th so much last year.

    Umm, if you want him to succeed, and know how fragile his ego is, it would seem that booing him could be the worst thing to do.

    1. Schilling was absolutely awful. I think he can turn it around fairly quickly, but we'll have to see. I will say that these types of games are what would make me wary of committing upwards of $13 million to him. 2. For all of the hand-wringing of the bullpen, 2 runs in 5 isn't awful. At least they didn't lose us the game. 3. Varitek, IMO, looks cooked. 4. I think Crisp and Lugo will have decent years. If Crisp even sniffs his '04 numbers I'll be ecstatic. 5. The offense needs to work counts more. After the first inning I thought they'd be able to do that, but they failed to do so for the rest of the game. With a lumbering Schilling on the mound, that's a recipe for disaster.

    Seriously, it's one game. And as "bad" as the bullpen was, it was still 2 runs in 5 innings. Not awful. Granted, I didn't see any of the game past the second inning, but the blame for this one really needs to go on the offense and #38, not Tito or the pen.

    Understandable, but it would be a nice change of pace pitch - especially if he threw it early on in a count. edit - Finally out of the inning, it's vital the bats work Meche some more.
