The things I'm most encouraged about last night were (a) Beckett didn't abandon his secondary pitches, ( some of the changeups he threw were just dirty, and © when he missed he missed down in the zone. He didn't rely on his fastball too much. The worst breaking ball he threw all night, coincidentally, was the one he K'd DeJesus on.
3. I disagree with your assessment of Piniero. I thought he looked really good, and his pitches had a lot of break on them. Yes, it's the Royals, but it's an encouraging sign. The 'pen has to start somewhere, and last night was an excellent game to build off of.
