On a serious note....this is why I feel winning the division is so big. I'm shocked the Yanks lost this series, and shocked Paul Byrd was able to beat Chien Ming Wang to do it. The playoffs are a crapshoot....but being the best team over 162 games means something.

To the question at hand...if Curt really only wants a one year deal, you give it to him. Anything over that is risky. Garcia? Lohse? Fogg? Kennedy? I think the Sox need to weigh their options. I am not confident going into next season with just Beckett, DiceK, and Wake as the only "sure things".

If Sabathia is on reserve if Byrd struggles, wouldn't it make more sense to have Sabathia start the game seeing as he's the better pitcher?

If you want to give it to Clemens, I guess you could do it based on longevity. However, in the time he was in Boston, Pedro Martinez was easily the best pitcher. As for Cy Young, you do know the stat of ERA+ compares ballparks and the eras the game was played in, correct? [table]Pitcher|Career ERA+ P. Martinez|160 R. Clemens|143 C. Young|138[/table]

Should be a good game, both teams with solid defenses and decent offenses. I got the impression that the lost fumbles in the first half last night made McCarthy shy away from the passing game. He also said before the week started that he was going to try to run more. But they played not to lose in the 2nd half and it killed them. They're not good enough to turn the ball over 5 times and win. It feels like they gave the game away. It could have been 17 or 21 to 0 had Jones not fumbled those catches.

If Wedge is content on punting this game (and by all reports, he is) then he needs to punt it all the way. He can't bring in Perez or Betancourt. Let Borowski get lit up after Byrd. Save the stud for Game 5, which was apparently the plan all along.

Yep, and it could be argued the reason he got lit up the other night is because he had too much rest.
