1. Preliminary thoughts this week: CIN @ KC - At first glance you'd like Cincy in this game, but you have to factor in how difficult Arrowhead is to play in. At 2-3, the Chiefs are not out of the AFC West picture yet, and Cincy seems like the perfect team to go LJ going against. I say Chiefs win this game outright. JAX vs. HOU - If Andre Johnson cane come back this would be more of a game. I just think Jacksonville's defense is the difference and they win this game. CLE vs. MIA - Cleveland's offense is pretty good (last week's game notwithstanding). Miami's defense is getting older but played OK last week. The offense is pretty bad, though. I like the Browns here. CHI vs. MIN - If AP gets more than 15 carries, Minnesota wins. PHI @ NYJ - The Jets are a pretty bad football team right now. The Eagles have had two weeks to straighten whatever issues they may have had out, and I think they roll in this game. This might be "the lock" of the week. BAL vs. STL - There is no good reason why the Ravens should be almost a ten point favorite in any circumstance. If the offense scores in double digits it's a moral victory for them, I like the Rams and the points here. TB vs. TEN - Interesting game, one where I would be hard pressed to choose a winner. Both play good defense but I'd give the edge to the Bucs and Jeff Garcia over VY and company. I like the home team. GB vs. WAS - Another one of those "too close to call" games. Both teams have had some unexpected successes this year. i think the Skins defense will put some pressure on Favre and that could lead to some miscues. However, I like GB's defense to stop the Redskin's offense even more. I'll take the Pack. ARI vs. CAR - David Carr is the Carolina QB. Unfortunately for him, he's not playing the Saints this week. Cardinals. NE @ DAL - Game of the week. Surprising the line is as low as it is, especially considering Dallas's performance on Monday night. First true test for either team, but I begrudgingly go with the hot hand and the Pats win. SD vs. OAK - Pretty substantial line here. SD wiped the floor with Denver last week and it looks like they may be starting to turn it around. Oakland's defense is decent, but I don't think it's enough to stop LT. Another one of those close decisions, but I think the Chargers prevail. SEA @ NO - The Aints have returned. Will they fare better than their other primetime experiences this year? I say.....no. I like the Seahawks wo win easily. NYG @ ATL - My upset pick this week. Atlanta shocks the Giants at home on Monday Night.

3. Would our chances of winning increase with him on the team?
4. This is true...so why would you be opposed to someone that talented on your team? Oh goody, the unclutch argument. How exactly do you measure "balls"? Did Keith Foulke have them? I bet you loved Trot Nixon and hate JD Drew for this exact reason. Would you like Paul O'Neill if the Sox signed him? They offered him the most money for his performance on the field. Are you saying ARod is a bad person for taking the best offer given to him? Most player's stats are. Oh boy. Here we go. Are you really telling me that Bucky Dent had more desire to win than Arod? Are you telling me they're even remotely comparable players? You shouldn't be because the answer is a resounding NO. ARod will probably go down as one of the top 5 players in the game's history, but because he doesn't have the "balls" he can never be great? Was it ARod's fault CMW sucked in two games this postseason? How about Posada hitting .001? How about Jeter making 17 outs in 17 PAs? How about in '05 when Randy Johnson got lit up in the Brawnx? How about when the entire offense, not just ARod, took a vacation in the Detroit series? Do me a favor and look up ARod's postseaon stats pre-2004. I would contend we are pretty damn close to having a lineup of superstars. I think the Yanks have done just fine over the last dozen years, maybe you mean since 2000? Negative, it came from a solid offense and an otherworldly pitching staff. The Yanks haven't come close to matching those staffs except for maybe 2003, when they made it to the WS and just got beaten by a better Marlins team. Are you telling me Scott Brosius is a better player than ARod? I don't like Boras either, but how is ARod the "antithesis" of baseball? Seems to me he's one of the best talents in the game and one of the better things the game has going for it. FTR this is what I want them to do. I believe these players are tied up for the next five or six years before they become arbitration eligible. Someone else can look up those numbers but I don't think we have to worry about breaking the bank on them for a while. This is actually a good point. Committing so much to ARod would give the Sox serious lack of payroll flexibility. But that doesn't mean I would hate having him on the team, seeing as he is one of the all time greats. Winning breeds good chemistry. 2004's team doesn't have great chemistry if they do not beat the Yankees and win the WS. If chemistry is so important why don't we trade Lugo and cut Mirabelli and sign guys like Eckstein and Lo Duca? Minaya needs to sign pitching before he worries about ARod. The pics are cute.
5. full on LOL
6. You got a link, source, anything? Or is this just pure speculation?
7. Nah, Rivera is as good as ours next year. While we're at it we should sign Joe Nathan too, and have every pitcher only pitch one inning per game.
8. If the DBacks don't win the games Webb starts they're in serious trouble. Tomorrow's game - Dbacks win, 7-2
9. So you're saying ARod is not clutch?
10. I don't know about that, aren't VORP and WARP mostly independent stats? IOW, doesn't the player have all of the control of the inputs to those stats? I would even argue in the reverse, having ARod on the team would offer guys like Ortiz and Ramirez even more chances to drive in runs, etc. Adding ARod would result in more wins, but I don't think he'd take away the performance for others.
11. Sign him to set up for Papelbon
12. I would love to see Alex Rodriguez on this team. That being said, I hope they re-sign Lowell and spend the remainder elsewhere and try to make deals that make the team stronger overall.
13. Umm, a MiLB pitcher is not worth Robbie Cano, the man, the kid, the legend. Would you trade Robbie for a MiLB pitcher who had a great year in AAA or AA? of course not. Why would you expect others to?
14. Torre managed with a sense of urgency all year because he had to. Francona had the option of resting guys down the stretch to keep them fresh for the playoffs, but he had to ride the horses in '05, too. The season is a marathon, not a sprint, but Torre had to push the envelope to get the Yanks in the playoffs, which he did.
15. You're gonna drop $30 million on a pitcher? I love Johan but you're always one pitch away from the end of your career...
16. I would really like to see how the guy costs you 8 games a year with his managing. At the end of the day...players play and managers manage. Where's the criticism for Jeter? The Teflon SS strikes again - 17 outs in 17 PAs. Where's the Posada criticism? Abreu? Matsui? Wang? etc, etc. The guy's been nothing but class since he got there and has done a hell of a job working in such a hostile environment. To listen to Yanks fans routinely bash him boggles my mind. I bash Francona at times too but he is easily the best RS Manager in my lifetime and possibly ever. http://images.sportsline.com/u/ap/photos/NYY206100900_1024x768.jpg This rivals those sad clown paintings. I feel awful for the guy because he didn't deserve this.
17. Proctor was off the team on July 31st. Until Joba got called up he was the second best option out of the pen behind Mo. Since you guys got put behind the 8-ball so early with your record (and yes, injuries to your rotation had a lot to do with that), what do you expect him to do? At 21-29, if he was going to make a playoff push, he had to start riding his horses early. He did that with Proctor but Proctor was off the team on July 31st. Joba came in and did an excellent job, and Vizcaino stepped up in the second half. I fail to see where Torre's pen management over the course of the season should cost him his job. Yankee stats with a man of 3rd base:
Situation|Runs|BA|RBI|HR|OBP|SLG|OPS Man on 3rd|60|.255|52|1|.385|.333|.718 2nd and 3rd|125|.327|120|7|.379|.513|.892 Based Loaded|158|.359|153|4|.377|.545|.922
Those don't look like awful stats to me. The Yankees sac bunted and ran quite often this year. You don't want to run into too many outs with that world class lineup, and besides they mashed in the second half. Couldn't the first half struggles be due to, gasp, the players not performing? The Yankees were 21-29 after 50 games. In the 112 games following that they were 73-49. The players on the Yankees have come out and given Torre credit for their turnaround. Are you telling me that they didn't mean all of this and were winning in spite of him? Where's the blame for Cashman?
18. Bwahahaha And Thumper, I'm an equal opportunity ******* - I'll call anyone out for saying stupid crap.
19. lol, you you wouldn't trade Joba for about as close to a "sure thing" as it gets in terms of a starter? You still don't know if Joba can translate into a starter. IMO...his real value would be in the pen.
20. Yep. How long have you been here, and why do you continue to take what I say seriously? LOL INTERNETS
