  1. Neither is Jason Varitek. Gee thanks. Now answer my question.
  2. I'm fairly confident that Josh Bard and George Kottaras will outperform Jason Varitek offensively this season. What would you offer Varitek in the light of no other public offers? They offered 1/10+, and now 2/8 or 2/10. He's been ripping this team off since 2006 with that 4/40 deal he signed after 2004. You can't possibly tell me you want to overpay for him a second time, although 2/8 or 2/10 seems like an overpay to me at this point.
  3. Dude, you wish for injury all the damn time, stop being such a hypocrite. Nice deal for the Yanks.
  4. It's a genius contract offer if you think about it, though. - Tek turned down $10+ mil guaranteed for one season by not accepting arb, as he thought thewre would be more of a market for his services. - Tek learns no team is willing to give up a draft pick by signing him, therefore killing his market. - No other offers come about. Tek is left waiting. - Sox offer this deal. At least $8 mil guaranteed in the face of no other offers. - If Tek accepts, and by some miracle has a bounceback season, the Sox exercise the team option for $5 mil after Varitek regains a lot of his value. - If Tek accepts and has a season just like 2008, he won't do better than $3 mil and it's almost like he would be overpaid. - If Tek rejects, the Sox save face by saying "We offered $8 mil guaranteed over two years when he didn't even have another public offer." Genius.
  5. Yes, it's expanded to 16 - it'll be even more interesting as that tournament will decide if they get 10 teams in (I don't think they will, though). UConn Pitt Louisville Notre Dame Syracuse Marquette Georgetown Villanova WVU Cincinnati Providence
  6. You said it'd be the best rotation in baseball....I said if Pettitte pitches like he did last year, it probably won't be. The Sox have a guy like that, Tim Wakefield.
  7. Verducci also claimed the references for "A-Fraud" and "SWF" were clubhouse chatter....which is plausible because there's no way Torre is going to get the SWF reference. I have no doubts Torre will stand by the book - that doesn't mean he was the one who specifically threw ARod under the bus - he was just present when it happened.
  8. If Pettitte pitches the way he did last year, probably not, especially since Joba is only slated for like 150 innings this season.
  9. I have reasons for pessimism myself, but they have a lot of things going in their favor, namely they have the most wins vs. ranked teams out of the entire NCAA. To be honest, I won't really buy into their title hopes until I see how they do in the BET - it'll be their first real test for a do-or-die scenario and I'd like to see how they respond to that.
  10. lol totally NomahsHammSammich
  11. When was the last time Duke came through in a big situation? Calhoun owns Coach K in March.
  12. Thabeet is only tall - he's a very good defensive player but he's still too tentative for my liking. Guys like Harangody and Hansborough will eat him for lunch because he can't defend further than 10 ft away from the basket, and he can be posted up on. I'd take Varnado.
  13. lol Look at the other 2B in the HOF, look at Kent, and tell me he doesn't get in. lol
  14. Just because the investment doesn't come in one calendar year doesn't mean that the investment doesn't have to be paid. It does.
  15. Yes http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2009/01/16/sports/AP-BBO-Yankees-Mets-Ballparks.html?ref=sports
  16. Let the grownups talk kthx
  17. Whatever, holmes.
  18. Yup. Hypothetical - You miss budget on a project that size. Tell me if you're able to keep your job. You just ANSWERED my problem - the Yankees are a supremely wealthy organization and yet in the same breath have the balls to ask NYC taxpayers for more money. What happens if NYC told the Steinbrenners to go screw? Would the Yankees move? No way. The city had all the leverage in the world and still got bent over by the team who just spent $450 million in contracts. It's a complete joke - families in that same city live day to day, meal to meal and here come the Steinbrenners crying poverty. They can spend what they want to spend - there isn't a salary cap in baseball and those are the rules to play by. In this economic environment, to put more pressure on NYC taxpayers...just a terrible job.
  19. To me, missing their budget by about 28.5% while throwing out $400+ million in contracts is a serious problem and reeks of mismanagement.
  20. Check the thread right below this one.
  21. I will when a Yankee fan gives me a proper defense of this spending in this economic climate instead of "it's a business!!!" Seems like an awfully poor managed business to me if you miss budget on the stadium by as much as they did.
  22. I was responding the the claim that Warner is a "climate" QB. And yes - Warner has been able to play with some great talent - but at the same time what has Isaac Bruce done since? Could Marshall Faulk do what he did in the run and passing game without Kurt Warner? And why should Warner be knocked on the playcalling strategy? If he was bad at passing a football and was still called on so much to do it, why is he 4th all-time in QB rating?
  23. No, but Warner has played for 10+ years and only has two "bad" seasons. While his AZ teams haven't been great the last three seasons, he still has a QB rating over over 89 in all three! His 1999 and 2001 were fantastic, but his 2007 and 2008 were also very, very good. He was awful in 2002, and was pretty bad in 2005. Other than that, Kurt Wanrer has been at worst a slightly above average QB, and he's had some of the best single seasons ever. He's taken two different franchises to the Super Bowl. Another thing to consider - Canton doesn't house the "NFL" Hall of Fame - it's the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Can some of his prime years in the Arena League be considered?
  24. Is there another 2-Time MVP, 2-Time All-Pro, 2-Time SB winner that isn't or won't make the HOF?
