  1. This deal will never happen; and thank God for that! I can't think which would be worse: having manny in a yankers uniform, or having Sheff in a sox one! (although odds are he would be on the dl long before he actually put a uniform on)
  2. ya it's a done deal---on everywhere now. This is from the Globe:
  3. I saw on BSPN last night that Soriano has the worst fielding percentage of any 2nd baseman in the last 50 years. I know he wants to play 2nd, but face it---he sucks. Take your $10 mil and shag fly balls!
  4. Good Article: http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=16342685&BRD=1713&PAG=461&dept_id=24490&rfi=6 A few quotes:
  5. Interesting quote from JD today; talking about his own negotiations after hearing about Bronson's demise! Talking about the FO philosophy:
  6. Some interesting stuff from Bronson in his Q & A this am: Gotta love the fact that he really loves the sox, sucks they couldn't get rid of the fatman instead in this deal! We all know Theo was close to bronson, i guess theo doesn't let ANY personal feelings in the mix!
  7. Yea we paid way more for rent-a-wreck,(and we still are paying for it) but the FO thought he was a big upgrade----they were wrong and have admitted such. I never wanted to let o-cab go, he was born to play in a place like boston; he prospered under the pressure! I think that they would have tried to get him back this year from the angels (who have tried to move him) but because the stupid angels backloaded his deal--he is too expensive now to take! Too bad to cause i miss the handshakes:D
  8. Let's try and keep the facts strait: i said i was just posting the reports that i had read about the deal! Now if you are asking, do i think theo was involved in the deal--then my answer is yes! Theo even admits after coming back on being involved in the beckett deal, so i don't doubt that he was involved in this deal!
  9. Just relaying reports that i read smart guy!
  10. I wonder if you were saying it was a poor business decision when he took that discount to remain with the sox? I look at it like this: Bronson is a guy who loved boston and loved playing here. He could sack up and pitch in big games too. When contract time came he went to Theo (even though his agent was against it) and said he would take less to stay here. Theo shook his hand and said that they have no plans on trading him. Now he's gone and the season hasn't even started yet. I understand about taking a deal to make the team better, but it looks like the sox played him---take a discount and become a more valuable trading piece! If Bronson had an idea that he might get traded, he probably would have gone into FA and been able to pick a spot instead of getting stuck in cincy! I think the most interesting part is what this does to Trot. I love trot and hope he stays, but he will have to put together a great year to remain here!
  11. Well i look at it this way: the sox obviously want paps to start at some point for the team or they would not have him doing it now in ST. They want to start to build up his strength for that purpose. Now if they need to they will stick him back in the pen to help out, however this is not their first choice. They can't just tell paps to "work on becoming a starter" in the offseason. To become an effective starter you need real game experience. I have a feeling we will be a starter short come opening day (or close to it). There are talks about clement and bronson (to the reds for willy mo pena--and then they trade trot, which i don't like). I would rather see the fatman moved, but that's just me. Either way paps looks like he may be starting in 06, even shill is lobbying for him to. Whether it's at the beggining of the year or sometime during the season--my money is on him becoming a starter at the back of the rotation!
  12. Well then, read my post and get back to me. To not read it and then try to debunk it isn't to smart! If you did you would see why Foulke not being there and effective had a negative effect on the whole team. (and the players even said so after the season). And as i said before, yes any great closer will do, however Foulke is who we have (everyone else is unproven) so him returning to form is key!
  13. Well, Seanez gave up the one run and then got out of it--true! However he didn't pitch that well. If it wasn't for a couple stellar defensive plays by cora at short and pinckney at 3rd, the inning could have been a lot worse!
  14. If he wasn't a lefty, then he prob would make it! However they don't need trot's partner to be a lefty!
  15. Well I disagree here. I will break it down as simple as I can: -We had a great Foulke in 04 and we closed out games with wins--and we won the WS -We didn't have Foulke or a closer in 05 and we lost games at the end and were ousted in the first round of the playoffs. I know everyone here is going to try and throw all these variables in the mix about how our pen is different than last year, ect..... However a good closer brings so much more to the whole staff when they don't have to worry about the end of the game--and then the manager overextends some people over the season! The end result is losses at the end of the game and a tired team at the end of the season! I believe that a big reason for our struggles last year was the fact that we didn't have a great closer. There were games that we should have won that we didn't and we had to fight to the end. There were also players that said that they felt like they couldn't take a day off (of part of a game off) becuase they were worried about scoring enough runs to last to the end of the game. All of this wore on the whole team both physically and mentally. Not having an effective Foulke was felt throughout the entire team last year. I also realize that Hansen could be our future at closer, but he is an unproven commodity and needs time in AAA. (this kid just got out of college). We can't depend of him for this year, so I believe our best option is to have a healthy and productive Foulke!
  16. Not to beat a dead horse, but this was an interesting article: http://redsox.bostonherald.com/redSox/view.bg?articleid=131181 and of course, you have tek and timlin lobbying the rocket to retire in boston:
  17. Good article: http://redsox.bostonherald.com/redSox/view.bg?articleid=131174 Now let's hope he can return to form! It will make our starters a lot more comfortable if they know they don't have to try for a complete game every time out!
  18. My mom is a sox fan--although she probably couldn't give you our starting outfield for opening day!! There are many degrees of being a fan!
  19. There's still alot up in the air to be thinking about what to do with Foulke for 07! If he doesn't return to form, we take the $1.5 hit and dump him---however if he has an 04 type season, then I think we keep him. Great closers (which he was in 04) are hard to find; I mean if we had a good closer last year the yankers would not have sniffed us in the east!
  20. Here is some of what he said: If i haven't mentioned it yet, i would love to get wells out of here---however with all the pitt talk about clement, it seems even more unlikely!
  21. and becuase mota is known for being a clubhouse cancer! Better to keep the guy with a bigger upside!
  22. That would be great. Ship him off to hell where he doesn't want to be to end his career! Come on Theo, pull the trigger!
  23. I loved him for the last few years and everything that he did. Let's face it he was the face of the franchise. Now however he is the enemy---I don't hate him, but I also don't want him to do well!
  24. Wells pissed again: and more fromt he fatman: Theo; can we please trade this guy. We don't need him, I would be happy for paps to get his spot!
  25. Other than Buck's normal flaws that have been pointed out; i believe the main reason that we lost is because it's so early in the year. I mean we just started spring training, mexico is already in the middle of their season as is cuba, korea and japan are done with their spring training and ready to start their season. The USA guys just looked lost, they were not ready to hit yet----i mean does anyone honestly expect with that lineup in august that we would only score 1 run!
