  1. That's terrible. It's also shortsighted and incorrect. Signing Wake around league minimum is great insurance policy.
  2. What about Eck? He's bright, a HoF'er who started and closed, knows pitching and the game well, and played a ton under one of MLB's premier managers with LaRussa. Is it that he doesn't want to manage, or that he wouldn't be the puppet the FO wants? Certainly he'd clean up the clubhouse issues and run a tight ship, but is it that he's too upfront and outspoken for the brass?
  3. Well, barring my suggestion, she could sign with ESPN which would be the next closest thing except it won't be available on DVD.
  4. Hopefully Heidi now finds her true calling and signs a contract with Vivid.
  5. That's a constant here no less certain than the speed of light in a vacuum, acceleration due to gravity, Avogadro's number...
  6. The thing is, things are going very well for the ownership. They're making cash hand over fist. Henry & Co may be baseball fans but don't fool yourself. This is a business, he's a bean counter, and they're all in it to make money. To them, a successful year in which they win the WS is truly successful only if the trophy ultimately yields them more money.
  7. Their entire business plan must suck a$$ if they can't stay solvent in that market.
  8. I'd hire him as manager just so he couldn't coach 3rd base anymore...
  9. This one was the the yin to #4's yang. Sox sign someone or let one of theirs go - they'll regret it.
  10. Anybody pick up Hansen after the Pirates released him?
  11. The team's voice of reason, Mr. Stability, the epitome of decorum....please... All this tells you is how markedly different the team is going to look next year. Fasten your seatbelts.
  12. He was a true gentleman, the sports world needs more like him. RIP, Joe.
  13. After last year's shenanigans, fisting would be a good course of action with a few of these guys.
  14. I remember him playing for the Mets, WOR-9 used to broadcast all their games. He was a pretty hardnosed player, and I always thought it was too bad the Mets made him player-manager. That's ultimately why he wound up retiring at 37 when he clearly was still a good enough hitter to play a few more years. I miss Kiner's Korner.
  15. I like Australian football even more.
  16. Masterson was a HUGE loss for us, you just knew it when it happened. Aside from being a corn-fed monster of a workhorse, he was a stand up guy as well.
  17. He'll do just fine as the new puppet. Beer - in the clubhouse, after the game.
  18. Tragic, he was one of the good guys.
  19. Except he'll never be able to take BP with the boys, that's for sure. And evidently, sometimes what you need more than anything else is simply a quick visit by Chris Hansen.
