he could move cabrerra with hughes and perhaps someone else? this is hypothetical so dont call me out on this im really not well versed who theyve got in trenton or columbus quite frankly i do know out of nowhere they pulled wang cano cabrerra and phillips and this kid reese and the beane etal... they get no respect for their farm but the reality is theyve had to depend on these guys to make it happen theyve got people to move,no doubt and they may go overboard in their quest as they usually do

if he was a genious gm he wouldve won more than 1 w/s after 14 straight division titles we dont have to rip atlanta off they dont draw s***,their fan base is disinterested and theyre primed to rebuild give them a young pitcher and a prospect and give smoltz an extension thru 08 to make everyone happy....smoltz will decide where he goes in the end and dont let the yanks fool you theyve got guys who are available they didnt win all those championships standing still in july and we didnt win ours in 04 without didling with the ""untouchables"" such as nomar and a young shea hillebrand the year before sometimes it works sometimes it dont we traded schill and brady anderson for mike boddiker and won the al east in 88 and 90 anderson hit 50 hrs 1 year and schill won 175 games pitching before he returned in 95 we traded cant miss pitching prospect frankie rodriguez for rick aguilera the twins closer rick closed out 21/22 games before he gave up the game 1 tater to of all people tony pena?? to lose game 1 and get swept sometimes it works sometimes it dont in 1988 dan duquette of the tigers traded smoltz to atlanta for doyle alexander alexander went 9-1 for detroit...9-1 from 7-31 to 9-30 but boston beat them for the east championship and duquette looks like a fool for that move in montreal dan duquette made another bold move aquiring flame throwing lefty mark langston from seattle,a guy the boston people dreamed about getting for a tall guy who had control problems...randy whatshisname who had an era of 6.67 in montreal when he was dealt out of canada and the rest is history bottom line we need to get better here if we want to win it all thats my goal, winning it all, nothing else will suffice as far as im concerned thank you for allowing me to rant its good to clear out the cobwebs

Former Sox pitcher Paxton Crawford admits to using juice
Mr Crunchy replied to RoyNHSox's topic in Boston Red Sox Talk
want to hear it?? petey damon manny alexander nixon nomar millar in my opinion all juiced at 1 point or another and let me reiterate i could give a fiddlers f*** what guys who have 10M in the bank do to earn their money and help their teams -
i dont know why he got banned outside the fact that he acted like he invented the game of baseball and was rude surely and condesending to everyone he dealt with there was probably a better reason than the above

everyone who is considering playing in october will move on smoltz excpet perhaps the reds or a's if theyre in the hunt. y'all make 38 sound old look at the best pitchers in the game and list their ages, few are under 30 smoltz age isnt an issue at all in my opinion he's had a rubber arm before and after his surgery and if you believe the radar guns hes still throwing a 90mph slider which would look good anywhere
-
hes an abrasive prick but i kind of liked him he certainly could be entertaining. he was always a treat to read after a yankee loss last year i remember the royals beat randy johnson and he was calling for torre and mel to be fired and rj optioned down to columbus....i thought he would kill himself
-
larry anderson was a middle relief pitcher with an era of 3.5 in the astrodome jeff bagwell was in new britain and lou gorman admitted he never saw him play. you shouldnt confuse 38 year old larry anderson for 38 year old jon smoltz
-
i agree 100% which furthers my argument that jarret wright shouldnt be a starter that yanks pen has been abused badly by torre and with wright and chacon both unable to go deep into games its going to kill whats left of that bullpen.
-
lenny bias was going to bring the celtics another 5 rings when we drafted him in 1986
-
you shouldve experienced clemens coming out of game 6 in the 8th inning in shea because of a blister then watching calvin schiraldi's wife curl up in the fetal position as her husband took it in the ass costing us a world series... that was a helluva an experience 20 fukin years of anxiety and ulcers should be shared by everyone
-
exactly as loaded as the yanks have been theyre always 2-1 or worse to win it all. and thats with a 200m payroll we arent going to sniff anything close to that amount of payroll
-
youre guaranteeing a championship?? ya i move them both reluctantly too many strange things have happened to pencil in championships in march considering these kids have yet to pitch an entire season or face minimul adversity its too early to call these guys saviors just yet that being said paple may be the mvp of the al this year, honestly can you think of a more valuable player in the al so far and jon lester has been very impressive in his last 2 starts, his 1st start dont really count due to the 5 hour rain delay. schilling is our ace how long do you figure he to be here at his age?will he go to the cubs to reverse a 100 year old curse there too? without him we got a giant hole in the staff nows the time to win it all, right now baby
-
we were discussing this last nite why did he yank wright after 5 shutout innings? because the leftys were coming up? gee maybe they can tell the other team not to bring their lefty bats when wright pitches i dont get this they payed this kid 20M for 3 years and they wont let him work past the 5th....ever so in essence they had their best pitched game in quite a while yet their pen still got taxed to death... ronnie villone is showing up for the yanks large by the way
-
watching the way the lester has pitched against the B league im wondering if we really need to do anything come 7-31 the good thing is we got 6 more weeks to see what he and hansen are really all about and perhaps hansen can eventually bring the same man theyre both young Quote: my point is these pencil necks who determine where these guys go in the draft couldnt pick their asses never mind prospects I believe scouts pick prospects as well? That's where the tools come in to play. Which side are you against, scouts or sabermetrics. You seem to go back and forth. i dont like the sabermetrics thing quite frankly, reminds me too much of the dan duquette,""Just the facts ma'am"" regime.. scouts tend to see what goes down on the field, they have the feel of the game more so than the guys who plug a players stats and size into a computer and come up with what they feel are the requirements of mlb talent and whether or not a guys got ""it"" of course these people know more than i do and its much easier sitting back here and calling the shots after the fact....breaking down their errors is in fact much easier as i dont write the checks or hear the screaming when the #1 draft pix fail... i worked in the same office building in brookline with a shrink who gets hired by all kinds of sports teams,he interviews players before theyre even drafted to get a profile on their mental states....he handled rogelio moret after the fact....remember him?? 19 years old, threw absolute fire, won 19 games i believe as a lefty then pulled his car over on the expressway and never spoke another word again,he became completley catatonic it certainly isnt a perfect science

White Sox rookie pitcher ripped by Guillen
Mr Crunchy replied to jsinger121's topic in Other Baseball
ironic how arguably their best player ever didnt contribute s*** to their best season -
he wasnt rated that high?? who does these ratings?? helen keller? dont believe everything you read i tried to explain this to the rivernator and he never could understand that the game is played on the field and not the computer where did they rank kevin youkillis who duquette drafted in the 8th round?? anyways when we brought sanchez up from pawtucket in 03 he was leading the international league in hitting ... just as hes leading the national league today http://www.overthemonster.com/story/2006/6/9/113115/6443 i live in the same town as rick asadorian who the sox gave 1.75M to as a bonus while they wouldnt give the same money to mark texeira whos rick asadorian you may ask and rightly so wheres he playing today??....his cousin says hes in chatanooga he was a cant miss 5 tool blah blah fukin blah stud wasnt calvin schiraldi projected to be a better talent than roger clemens? wasnt brad klontz the next coming of joe dimaggiao?? where have you gone tony tarasco?? d'angelo jimenez and jose cruz were both untouchable at 1 point i remember the fabulous sports babe screaming JOSE CRUZ JR IS NOT GOING ANYWHERE meanwhile lou pinella lost game after game with the likes of norm charlton bobby ayala and others who couldnt hold a lead that seattle team was always a closer away my point is these pencil necks who determine where these guys go in the draft couldnt pick their asses never mind prospects
-
then we live with it it took 86 years to win the last 1 you ready to wait that long again?? if we didnt have a chance this year i'd say no but seeing as though the yanks have their heads on the chopping block, the nl is full of pretenders and the american league power rests in chicago.... i think we can beat them if we get another gun ask yourself its october 20th game 7 of the pennant who do you want to see jon lester or jon smoltz....or craig hansen or jon smoltz nobody should be untouchable ask nomar,he'd agree
-
i was discussing just that in the rumors thread sir. i would entertain offers on any and all members of the rookie club with the exception of our closer to get us the 1 live arm that would propel us over chicago and into the w/series lets face facts for a moment reality is that the yanks have too many injuries to their bats and not enough arms to make up for it,i consider them to be less than capable to win this thing even if matsui and sheff come back healthy....too much dead weight in their staff my man what may wake them is a deal in july for a hoss like smoltz a guy who will pitch everyday if you let him... he is a guy who could make our summer a bit brighter and would compliment schill beckett and wakefield down the stretch...in my life ive watched ny get every single stud available while we trade for the jeff suppan&joe sambitos of the planet the yanx go out and get david cone and the like...f*** this im sick of it imagine smoltz as our #2or 3??
-
I'm all for making deals, but not this one. Why not trade Pedroia for Kenny Rogers or Kevin Millwood if youre comparing smoltz to kenny rogers or kevin millwood youre the one who needs to get a grip THEY,meaning theo....traded a stud in freddy sanchez for jeff suppan who wont be confused for a good pitcher any time soon...so THEY will do it if they can. smoltz is 16-4 in the playoffs he pitched a pretty good game against us sunday evening and is the definition of a clutch pitcher, maybe the best clutch pitcher the games seen since koufax retired hes still pitching with power if you believe the radar gun his slider is lites out still if you put him out there in october you can expect 7ip 3orless earned 7-10ks and no bbs unless HE wants to walk somebody and you'll be in every game he starts plus he wants the ball plus he can still go on 3days rest plus he was a lites out closer when given the chance schill wont be here forever, beckett has yet to step up and shine like he should wake is wake,a career enigma, even he dont know whats happening in his next start. nows the time to make a move for this man i dont care if hes 40 schills pushing 40 clemens is pushing 45 rj is pushing 43 and david wells is 44..mussina is over 38 all these guys won 15 last year i think? i understand the anxiety of the league changes,i really do but we're not talking about soft servers like maddox and glavine here we're talking about 92-95mph heat and a 3-8 slider thats awesome and a new changeup he developed this offseason last year he threw 230 innings with an era of 3 and 169 ks he shouldnt be disrespected by being mentioned in the same breath as kenny""coward of the bronx"" rogers and the other guy.. smoltz is an alltime great and would be huge for us down the stretch

hmmmmn who else pitched with injury in 1999 then grew a couple hat sizes over the years?? hmmmmmn -
im not sure about that a jones will require 50-60m to keep around,c jones isnt the same hudson is a decent pitcher, hardly an ace, smoltz is still a stud but the rest of the staff should be cleaning rental cars at the airport, they suck that bad. they dont need a guy here or there they need an entire bullpen(ryan demspster and mike remlinger??are you shittin me)a lead off guy (brian giles is hitting .244 with no pop and 7 steals) and some power from the corners now that 78 year old julio franco is in shea and chippa has only 7hrs. francouer and the other guy are decent hitters but incredibly inconsistant laroche, while hitting in the 235-240 range has some pop renteria is your above avg offensive sstop all in all if they could get 10 pitchers and some power from their infield they'd be capable of challenging the mets

i think atlanta is the worst team in the al east with no help in getting close to the top in the near future. with their current attendence issues i wouldnt be surprised to see the jones boys as well as smoltz sent packing come 7-31... really, why keep them around?? for the greatful fans of atlanta?? f*** em,they dont deserve it
-
atlanta and oakland have 1 title between them in the last 16 years thank tommy glavine for shutting out the tribe in game 6 1995 or atlanta would be known as buffalo south. due to incredible luck with pitching health oakland was competetive for a few years and shouldve advanced with their pitching staff and guys like tejada giambi and damon on offense.... same goes for atlanta, smoltz(missed a year with elbow surgery) glavine and maddox were the same 3 studs they trotted out there year in and year out, they also had jason schmidt who they dumped for.....denny neagle..steve avery was very effective earlier in his career as well... consistancy is the key.... question for jon s why didnt you ever get a closer and bullpen depth?? they may have won 6 world series if they had a bullpen they didnt i blame the general manager for that i find them both to be incredibly overated sure they make deals that on paper look good so did duquette and theo and cashman for that matter are they geniouses too? look at the florida club they won,the rebuilt and won again, dismantled and rebuilt and are hotter than a bulls dick today...all this and they dont draw s*** either. i suppose the fact that oakland&atlanta play in a disinterested market they get a pass as they have to deal with payroll restrictions that we here in the east dont have to but i dont think either one of them is better than williams in chicago or whoever is pulling the strings in florida these days
